Lancs league 21/8

Post by Local cricketer » Sat Aug 21, 2021 11:51 am

2 games today Norden v Colne and Burnley travelling to Darwen. Just about to leave for Darwen now I’ve given you lot the clarets team news. Weather not looking good so it might be a afternoon in The Anchor with the locals

Don't know what game you are at, but the one I'm watching didn't go off until the 17th over with Darwen at 81 for 3.

Play cricket website went down. Staying dry in the anchor let us know when play resumes

House 43/7 v Clitheroe. Remarkable stuff. The spinners having a field day on a pitch that looks a spinners dream.

Patchy clouds...some dark ones knocking about though. Doubt that will come into it though at this rate.

112 all out. Paddy Martin made 49 to rescue the innings. He may well be the key in their innings too.

Up the house.

Every bowler went for less than 2 an over.

Clitheroe 71 all out and yet they earned a batting point. How can that be right? :?

Batting - Points will be awarded for getting within so many runs of the first
innings total as follows:-
50 1 Point
40 2 Points
30 3 Points
20 4 Points
10 5 Points

Just seems odd that a very poor batting performance gets rewarded with a point just because our total was so low. There should be a lower ceiling before points are awarded..100 perhaps.

Looking at the fixtures remaining you would have to say Darwen are the favourites now.

Clitheroe will be sick of the sight of Lowerhouse this season.

I think we won the league fixture at their place.

Then was the cup final.

Today saw them grab defeat from the jaws of victory after having the House at 44-7 in the first innings, thus ending their title hopes.

On a similar note, Great Harwood beat East Lancs today and claimed 10 points, but EL got 7! I'm not averse to the incentive of bonus points per se, but the difference between wining and losing probably should be greater (imo)

I like our bonus points system - gives the team that is probably going to lose a reason to fight to the death - certainly makes the difference at the end of the season.

What does Cole Hayman love most?

Bowling wides?
Losing to Lowerhouse?

I got told a comment he said last week

“Even if Lowerhouse win, I’ve still won more Worseley cups than they have in their history”
