Genesis

Anyone going to see them on their upcoming UK Tour? They were on TV this morning and I was shocked at how frail Phil Collins looks. Hope he makes it to the end of the tour! I've got tickets for Manchester 24 Sept.

My sister was telling me about this when I was last over at hers. She said they are going to see them. Also said Phil Collins is in a wheelchair which surprised me.

Going to see Steve Hackett at the Apollo (surprisingly on the same night Genesis are in Manchester) He's performing the 'Seconds Out' Album.

I've got tickets to see Steve in Guildford on 5 October. Going with my son. Probably looking forward to that the most.

I won’t be going, but I have heard that they have the invisible touch, so perhaps they’ll be able to turn it on again.

His son is doing the drumming apparently but he will be doing vocals. It's been a series of accidents that's caused it.

Very strange. Never heard of someone recreating a40 year old live album. Wonder if he’s got Chester Thomson to perform the drum solo.

Seeing Steve Hackett on the 24th at the Apollo then Genesis on the 25th. Mixed feelings about Genesis. First concert I went to in 1982 when I think they were at their best. May be a bit upsetting seeing Phil Collins now. Didn’t want any regrets so stumped up for a ticket.

Interesting documentary on you tube.

I saw Steve Hackett in Halifax in 2019. The first off was his solo material and second half of the show was "Selling England By The Pound" in its entirety and a few other old Genesis classics. He and his band were superb. Enjoy Claretfern and Mondsley.

I always wondered what she saw in multi millionaire Phil?

As for him singing on the tour he really does not look in any fit state tbh. As sad as it is people really should bow out gracefully if they are unable to perform to the levels required for the paying public. There’s a few class acts that can still perform brilliantly in their 70’s such as the Stones but there is no way on earth that any upcoming Genesis tour can be fit to lace the boots of their ones from the 80s and 90s.

This will be my 18th Genesis concert and probably the last. I was shocked to see the recent pbs documentary but then realised it was filmed at the start of rehearsals.

Collins hasn’t played properly for years has he ? Just watched couple of vids of him he looks completely wrecked and he’s clearly barely singing a note live .What on earth has happened to him ? He’s either killing himself with booze ? No idea he even drinks but just looks like a booze ravaged body.
Tragic as he’s a talented musician

I loved the early Genesis albums and then Peter Gabriel’s solo albums. Happy memories having seen them in their prime.

I saw the Steve Hackett tour do the whole of 'Selling England by the Pound' at the Victoria in Halifax.

Full house, and way more spectacular than I expected it to be. Phenomenal drummer - but you'd have to be to replace Collins in his prime.

I used to love Genesis when Peter Gabriel fronted them. They soon went downhill after he left. The first couple of post-Gabriel albums were alright.

Just a heads up for those going to see Genesis…you’re in for a treat! Saw them last night in Birmingham, on the opening date of the tour; they were superb. I’ve never been to a concert which started so emotionally.

Saw them on that tour. Brilliant apart from a dodgy PA that muffled Gabriel’s vocals. Great album but I’d put Foxtrot 1st and Selling England 2nd.

There is a Genesis tribute band called The Musical Box who are touring the UK early next year. They are playing the whole of the Lamb. I've seen them a couple of times and they are excellent. As for the real thing, looking forward to Friday in Manchester!

They're not cheap as a tribute band but saw them a few years ago running the Black show (Post Selling England...) They were absolutely superb

Just back from the first Manchester gig which started over 1 hour late due to "technical problems". It meant we had to miss the encore as our last train from Victoria was half eleven. Frustrating. Thoroughly enjoyed what we saw. Musically they were spot on and Phil Collins' son on drums was a revelation. It has to be said that Phil is not the singer he was, hardly surprising given his age and health problems. But overall a good night. Roll on Steve Hackett in a couple of weeks.

The gig was fantastic. Shame you missed the encore Mondaley as they finished in Carpet Crawlers.

Really good set I thought (just missing Musical Box really ;) )

A stage full of great musicians. Yes Phil’s voice has gone a bit but they pitched the songs lower to accommodate him and he still gave it his all. That Daryl Stuermer can really make a guitar sing. A great night out even if I didn’t get home till 1am!

He's not Cabbage but he still has his wit and can still sing. But he's a little bit hesitant timing wise (which I expect is his illness)

I didn't know his name but you're right, he's living the dream.
Unbelievable. And the drummer. This band are actually way more like the Genesis I know and love than the current touring Genesis.

Just back from Manchester. Great show and although I had my concerns over Phil Collins he didn’t disappoint. He seemed to get better as the show went on. The whole band were great and if that is the last time I see them I’ll have no regrets.
