Play Cornet upfront alongside Wood?
Play Cornet upfront alongside Wood?
He has pace, power, an eye for goal and considerable technical ability (thank you YouTube). If JBG is fit to play right sided midfield then I think Dyche should seriously consider (and spend a significant amount of coaching time) on Cornet playing upfront alongside Wood.

So we sign a full back/winger and immediately someone suggests playing him in a position he's probably never played before.

JBG on the right and Cornet left wing with McNeill behind Wood a little like Hendrick used to but would be more well suited and potentially flourish in a free role.

He’d bag a hatful with the supply from Roberts and Taylor on the wings and Tarky pulling the strings in midfield.

Hennessey as the number 10?

Agree. Let’s have a look at that Vydra lad…. I reckon him and wood may just strike up a decent partnership.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 8:07 pmAnything to freshen up our forward options has got to he worth a try

No need for Hennessy, just play Pope as rush back.

From what I've seen of Cornet he will used as a super sub like that fella who manages Man Utd. I think his talent will be wasted if we start him too often and Substitute is one of the key positions we have been struggling with

Could sticking Hennessey up front for the last few minutes of games be any worse than Crouchy up there ?

Maybe neither of them on the bench. Wood will start, not sure Cornet will be in the matchday squad on Monday.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 8:39 pmCornet will be in close proximity with wood on Monday night at Everton.

Re: Play Cornet upfront alongside Wood?
According to transfermarkt, he has played there twenty-one times, most recently in the 18/19 season, with five goals and three assists in those appearances. Noticeably, in the 17/18 season he wore number nine for Lyon.
Re: Play Cornet upfront alongside Wood?
I’d like to see him at centre half. We’ve been crying out for some pace at the back for some time. Left sided centre half in a 3 so then he can carry the ball out too.

He's no Jeff Hendrick in there.
The important stat for that position is how many times did he recycle the ball?

Vydra's pencilled in to take over from Lowton at right-back.

The best comments I've heard about Cornet, are that he should be playing up front because he's got pace, unlike our current strikers. On that basis, why didn't we just sign Usain Bolt and save a few quid?
Re: Play Cornet upfront alongside Wood?
Was talking to DiBranchio a couple of weeks ago, he still looks like he could do a job at centre half if needed.

That would constitute an infringement and the referee would be sadly obliged to confiscate the instrument and probably book the player/musician.

Don’t confuse the poor fellow even more. Social media are having a field day at the moment as there is a picture of him doing the rounds where he points to allegiance to the Umbro insignia instead of the Burnley badge. Oh dear!

Re: Play Cornet upfront alongside Wood?
Seems strange we've spent so much money on a full back when we already have 5 of them. Seems more likely we've signed Cornet as a winger and so the suggestion to play him as a second striker behind Wood doesnt seem any different to plenty of peoples suggestion to play McNeil in that role or Dyche's decision to play Hendrick in that role.
Personally I expect him to play as a winger but Id say there is far more chance of him playing up front than there is of him playing full back.

Interestingly when he signed a number of Lyon supporters were saying his best position was just behind a main striker.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Sep 09, 2021 8:11 pmSo we sign a full back/winger and immediately someone suggests playing him in a position he's probably never played before.

Might be needed if Hennessy pulls a hammy chasing down a ‘long pass’ from Tarks over the opposition centre halves

Apparently had a good stint just behind the striker where he had a really healthy return.
However due to shortages on the left hand side he was moved over.

Re: Play Cornet upfront alongside Wood?
Not sure why the OP gets ridiculed for suggesting a position that previous managers have used him. But there’s a lot of know all’s around aren’t there- probably the same who said Mee and Duff could only play full back because the manager at the time played them there.
Cornet was signed as a striker by Lyon and played left wing, right wing, number 10 and left back, I guess Dyche will be trying him in every position and seeing if he can fit into the team where he’s best. Maybe that will be up front no one knows yet- not even our manager.

Cornet has never really played no 10 as far as I know. He did play up front earlier in his career but is a winger (both sides) really.

I tried to make a team with players in their original positions eg Ralph Coates as striker. It was a while ago, but some of the names were surprising

According to Transfer Markt up until the 2018 season roughly just under half of his games for Lyon were as a centre forward.Iloveyoubrady wrote: ↑Fri Sep 10, 2021 11:17 amCornet has never really played no 10 as far as I know.
