Play Cornet upfront alongside Wood?

Re: Play Cornet upfront alongside Wood?
This would be my lineup for the first 60-65 minutes against Arsenal
Pope
Lowton Tarks Mee Taylor
JBG Brownhill Cork McNeil
Cornet Wood
(Depending on the score of course) After 60-65 minutes replace Cork with Westwood, JBG with Roberts and Cornet with Vydra

According to transfermarkt he appears to score the highest number of goals playing right wing.

What a barny thread!
We haven't even seen him in action.

You got some rude replies, however there are a few with elgon their face.
The guys immense, and having him up top has brought us 4 points.
Just hope it's not a case of when he doesn't play ( Norwich and 2nd half today ) we don't.
As teams will start to suffocate him if he becomes our only threat.

A few of the usual "know all's" been made to look a bit silly on this thread. Too much mocking of people on here for daring to have a different opinion to the "herd".

This was my post from 2nd September.claretandy wrote: ↑Thu Sep 02, 2021 11:40 amThinking about it, Cornet could become our Mikael Antonio, he was being played as a full back at Notts Forest before West Ham converted him into a striker. Cornet is just under 6 foot, well built, quick and powerful.

Re: Play Cornet upfront alongside Wood?
I think give credit to SD today. I am not sure what the formation was but he managed to include Dwight Cormet and JBG, and it would have given the opposition a real challenge as opposed to the traditional Burnley 442. Reminds me of the days of Gareth Taylor (an old fashioned No 9). He became unavailable one game and Stan played Glenn Little, Robbie Blake and Ian Moore as the front three and the opposition struggled to contain us

It was the standard 4-4-2 but with Cornet up top instead of either Vydra, Barnes or Jay.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sat Oct 30, 2021 7:11 pmI think give credit to SD today. It does give us a lot more attacking flexibility and with Roberts and Collins as backup in defence our priority be it in Jan or next summer is to get a top quality centre midfielder to the standard of Defour or the 17/18 Cork

The number of times JBG could have put in crosses from the byeline but just will not/cannot use his right foot (and of course a lack of pace)
There's a young winger at Utd who doesn't seem to be getting any game time at the moment - goes by the name of Sancho
If you don't ask, you don't get

Re: Play Cornet upfront alongside Wood?
I agree about the winger but if JBG gets injured then Vydra comes in and Cornet moves to the wing so it just gives us a bit more flex over those 2 positions.jojomk1 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 11:14 amStill need a wide right as well

Re: Play Cornet upfront alongside Wood?
Why do people get hissy fits when somebody suggests things like this? Cornet has all the attributes to play upfront. These things happen quite often. Arsene Wenger bought a failed winger who went on to be the greatest player in the clubs history. Some clown also pushed a failed LB onto the wing who somehow ended up at Real Madrid.

I think Roberts could do well in that position but hopefully we can bring in a couple of midfielders in January.jojomk1 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 11:14 amStill need a wide right as well

Credit where it's due.
Credit also to Sean Dyche for following his advice, turned out to be a tactical masterstroke.

Re: Play Cornet upfront alongside Wood?
JBG put in a few crosses with his right foot on Saturday that were pretty decent but his preferred method as we know is to cut back.
I actually witnessed Charlie Taylor kick a football with his right foot when the subs were kicking it around at half time v Spurs. Now that WAS rarer than Hens teeth

JBG has a decent right foot. I seem to remember he had more assists with his right than left a few seasons back. My only criticism is that he should use it more often. Not that he can't. McNeil is the most one footed player in the team

Re: Play Cornet upfront alongside Wood?
Given Cornet now looks to be out for the West Ham game will we see a formation change?
Obviously he's done very well up there alongside Wood so it will be interesting to see if Vydra gets a chance.

Re: Play Cornet upfront alongside Wood?
I think he should try McNeil up there with Wood. #10 is supposed to be his best position. And if "Doubting Tony" would be so kind as to poo-poo this idea, that could be a really good omen

No, no, Tony said #10 was Hennessey’s best position
