jakub no offense but the notion of you trying to educate anybody is somewhat comical.
But he has admitted that he can't.

Not strictly true, ex offenders rehabilitating the whole idea is to prevent them reoffending or at the very least minimise it.
I'm only going from what you said upthread. You posted that you had undertaken counselling sessions.

Post release = ex offenders, if i stop smoking I’m a ex smoker. The point of rehabilitation is moving away from the past onto a brighter future but not forgetting the past.

I haven't got a clue what you are quibbling about here. I said you had undertaken counselling sessions, that was all. Maybe I should file these counselling sessions under 'things that never happened'.

He says he's undertaken counselling sessions with offenders.
I’m referring to this post it’s important well it was back then to not refer to them as offenders, you give them a clean slate a fresh start but always remain mindful of the past & focus on life ahead to shape a better future, it might seem pedantic to you but the ex offender needs to be described in that way.

A few down the years. Thankfully, just as a visitor.

I was even in Strangeways the day the riots ended.

Not the best of places to spend time I believe.

Any proper qualified counsellor would say the same, with drug addiction it’s a ex user the person needs that belief that they have moved on & changed, actioning that change is the hard part but if you set off in the right way you stand a better chance, night anyway.

This is Jakubclaret who wants the death penalty brought back.

To be fair, if I came out of prison and was sent to Jakub for a spot of counselling I think I'd want to go straight back inside.

Given many of the posts he's made on here in the past, I would love to be a fly on the Wall at these 'counselling sessions'.

Jakob telling the cons they can “ relax now you’re inside lads no grocery, utility bills or mobile bills to worry about , food ,TVs playstations , gyms ,libraries , a warm roof over your head . It’s a clean slate ! You lucky b@stards “

Prison = noise , noise , noise , drugs , drug addicts , mentally very ill people , casual violence , constant smell , suicides , bullying of the weakest ,awful food, career criminals , gangs , very low IQ’s.
Don’t smoke , drink ,take drugs or lend anything , respect everyone and everything , do every activity you can , don’t show weakness you’ll be totally fine Jakob old fruit !

I did a couple of short sentences in the late 90's, early 00's. Just in local prisons Preston, Kirkham, Forest Bank. Preston was grim back then. No electricity in cells, so unless you had a battery powered radio you read a lot. Kirkham was a laugh, 20 lads in an old air force billet playing cards and getting stoned every night. It's a working prison so you have a 9 to 5 job. I was picking spuds in the adjoining fields, not much fun in winter. Forest Bank was a new build prison ran by a private security firm, Group 4 I think. By then each cell had a TV, and you had a key to your cell, so you could lock it when you went for a shower etc without fear of your tobacco being stolen. Obviously not nice places, but it's possible to get through it without any horror stories if you keep your head down, which most lads do. Worth remembering that your not there to be punished, being there is your punishment.

Before Covid there was a lot of talk about prisoners being locked up in cells 23 hours a day in local prisons, due to lack of prison officers.

I hope it's got better but I can't see it.

There was something on the news a few weeks ago about prison covid lockdown. Apparently, many prisoners were less stressed out because they felt safer.

That’ll be reassuring for the victims that the prisoners feel safer now, I can guarantee there won’t feel half as safe as the members of the general public the longer there are behind bars.

But surely it’s better for everyone if the prison is more relaxed…
More reflection than anger, and by that I’m
Not suggesting give them luxuries. If a prisoner feels like it’s a fight or flight environment, how are they supposed to reform

It’s a very complex issue & none of us will really agree as this thread is proving, I lean more towards the victims with sympathy & feelings, quite frankly nowadays I don’t give a damn about the prisoners & how there feel that might appear selfish but that’s just the way I feel.

Know lots of people that have and they all say it’s a doddle.

The prison system is on its backside. You wouldn’t believe what goes on in there. They are out of the cells for most of the day all have iPhones etc. A lad I went to school with goes live on Fb all the time from inside his cell it’s madness and some people are oblivious to what’s actually going on in these prisons, it’s easier to get drugs in prison than it is outside.

I also quoted a mirror with the 100 seized PlayStations from the other prison, does it really matter what newspaper I link? The truth is in front of you you just need to open your eyes.

Like you, a friend on mine was in Kirkham Open Prison in the 90’s. 18 months (9 served) for fraud. I visited a couple of times. He was an ex-marine so he adapted well to the barracks-style accommodation. His job was making sheds in the wood shop.
We used to play squash before he went inside…..generally I had the better of him, but his playing companion inside was a county standard squash player and they played every day! I’ve never beaten since he came out!
He said once he’d adapted it was very doable and there were some interesting characters……but that was it, he’d never go back. He never has.

Found the one, we called Lindholme 2 whilst we were building it, apparently its now called HMP Moorlands.
It's on the site of an old RAF base. 2 other prisons on the same airfield.
Didn't Maggie build 6 prisons of the same design throughout the country?

It's now a Cat C Mens and Youth Offenders Institute.
Apparently Adam Johnson (remember him?) was held here.

Well quite. Someone mentioned prison covid lockdowns, and I merely mentioned a BBC TV news item from a few weeks ago where prisoners felt less threatened by their more thuggish inmates. Anyhow, I've already said I'm fully in favour of keeping repeat offenders off the streets, but given the sneering tone of your reply, it sounds like you're in favour of the thugs and gangs running the balconies. Also, it's an odd response, given your former 'counselling' role  , and that you got all prissy and even played the PC card over a minor faux pas.

Went in 80s to Armley Leeds , public order offences , drunk mainly. Still had to **** in a bucket and slop out , certain they don’t do that nowadays as I’ve been back in as a works contractor which was a very strange experience after 30 years. I served 6 months in Armley and a Youth Custody centre ( ex Borstal ) , had my head shaved , given a number ( I still remember to this day , I had to repeat it that many times ), I learned quickly to keep my head down and mix with nobody. I was favoured by the screws as a grafter inmate ( shirt ) so I used to get taken to help open and close the gate , run errands etc , for which I got cigarettes and even one on New Year’s Day a can of beer.

The places are full of anger and idiots wanting to make a name for themselves, and institutionalised folk with nothing else but to be a con.
I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone , there are little few benefits after losing your freedom , other than not having to get up turn off the light. Remember my first cell mate had a large appetite for batteries. 30 odd years later , married with kids , I haven’t disclosed this period of life to my children. It did me no harm , it actually served its purpose , I haven’t been in any trouble ever since. 52 now and have done OK since. Stay well clear

I'm very worried that you don't give a damn about prisoners and how they feel, but were once responsible for counselling them and helping them back into society.
Make you wonder, doesn't it. I bet they won't be employing any more counsellors from the prestigious university of Wot I Rekon.

The way I feel prison should be run they’d certainly be no running the balconies by the thugs the prisoners wouldn’t even leave the cells unless for emergency medical treatment, food & water & toilet roll would be served through the hatch. Prison would be a deterrent because it would be hell the prisons would be almost empty & crime very minimal due to my methods. 4 walls a mattress & toilet & a window & you would be in your cell for 24hours a day.

Absolutely 100% this, I did a tour of few of the queens youth custody suites and they are not to be recommended. Daily attempted suicide attempts, inmates setting their cells on fire whilst inside them. Violence like you wouldn’t believe every day awful food and don’t get me going on the people that you are living with day in day out.

Just have a **** in a bucket in the corner of your bedroom and leave it there for a few hours with the door locked before you can slop it out. I was a far worse person when I came out than when I went in, but if this is a piece of cake to you I hope you get a big slice.

Oh and just a little footnote, you leave a devastated family and friends on the outside who come and visit which has a massive effect on them.

Why not just shoot them and have done with it. The surviving prisoners
can then serve a useful purpose digging the graves.

Job sorted !!!!!

Visited the Approved School at Dobroyd in Tod several times as two lads on pre-release used to come to our chapel youth club. That was ok, but v regimented. When I did a Probation Service placement in Ashton in the late 60’s, I had to visit Preston Prison- will never forget the feeling as the doors clanged behind me. Awful place in those days. Made me rethink my career plans and I decided psychiatry would be better than having to visit prisons so regularly. We had locked wards and a Forensic Unit at Prestwich when I worked there but they were better than prisons.
