Drinkwater without a shadow based on the hype of a league winners medal & promising so much & delivering so very little & that’s without going into the off field shenanigans.

Mike Summerbee and Willie Morgan (after re-signing him).
Summerbee was great for us...unless we signed another guy by that name.

Frederick Nimani. Think he was brought in on loan. Made his debut at Bolton and looked like he’d never seen a football before.
You beat me to it. The worst ever signing of all time. He was a basketball player. An imposter. I can’t think whoever suggested that he could become a footballer.

I was expecting big things from Richard Eckersley.

The only thing he produced was the most disgusting half of football I think I’ve ever witnessed in a game he started away at Barnsley.

Burnley's first million pound signing. Jesus wept.
In fairness he was awesome in Champ Manager prior to us buying him.

Paul Stewart didn't fare very well.

Not necessarily the biggest flop but how do people remember Gazza?

Gascoigne would be right up there.
He was awful. Would have been out of his depth at Colne.

Paul Stewart I remember being the biggest disappointment at the time. Now being in possession of the full facts he shouldn’t be anywhere near this list.

The Gibson thing…. Well, that’s nowt to do with him is it?

My vote goes to Drinkwater. Weapons grade buffoonery by a superb talent.

Wayne Thomas looked a poor signing after we had chased his signature for some time. Somehow we got an excellent fee for him.

Fernando Guerrero came in with much fanfare and hype but was no where near good enough.

Drinkwater looked barely even League 1 standard considering he played for the club he did.

For me the biggest flop was appointing Brian Laws as manager.

In the end, I think I was more disappointed with Howe than Laws. Laws was underwhelming when he came in and did par for the course, but I had high hopes with Howe.

Well if we're throwing managers into the mix, Buchan and Waddle would be right up there, especially considering the level we were competing in at the times of their appointments.

Loan player: Paul Stewart

Permanent deal: Gerry Gow was the first one I thought of.
Agreed. Gow was dreadful. None of the bite he was known for.

A quick look on wiki and Frederic Nimani has scored a whopping 30 goals as a senior project since making his debut 15 yes FIFTEEN years ago.....hardly prolific is he ....and still playing now. His best tally was 12 in 20 or so games for Esgursand (probably spelt wrong)

It's all about opinions but can't help think the people listing Robbie Brady haven't been watching much and don't have a lot of perspective.

Brady was brilliant for us when we qualified for Europe.

Only got to look at his performances against Everton and Bournemouth away in the Prem and when he helped to brush aside a lower league outfit in the League Cup.

Yes I would agree his first 6-12 months were decent, but sadly he's not looked the same player since his horror injury at Leicester.

And for us £13m is a lot to splash out on any one player, plus naturally his fairly high wages.

I wouldn't describe him as a flop, but the phrase that comes to my mind is flattered to deceive.

I'd say he was a brilliant player with the talent required to be a great Premier League player who suffered terrible injuries.

It's not at all analagous with a "flop". A flop is somebody who was rated highly, cost at least a fair bit and who performs badly. There has to be fault at play - either the manager or player in question. Brady was faultless.

Remco van der Shaaf
Ian Moore
Leon Cort
Danny Drinkwater

These were flops.

Robbie Brady was brilliant for us before his injury.

Really hoping that Cornet never appears on a list like this but who in your opinion is the biggest flop we have ever signed

For me has to be Besart Berisha

Just remember massive hype after the U21 game then the injury he got really ruined his time here

So who is your biggest flop?
You always wonder what might have happened had he not got that cruciate. He got himself fit but we’d had a change of manager by then who didn’t want him near his first team and he went out on loan to get games.

The game he played on the Turf was for the full Albania international team against England B. I don’t think anyone there that night wasn’t excited when we signed him.

I bumped into a ex Burnley striker near the ground a few weeks after he signed it was a preseason game against Middlesbrough I think. This striker said he has seen him in a few sessions and was really excited himself. Then unfortunately injury struck

Juke played quite well in some early games but confidence let him down at the end with poor touches in front of goal. After the Accrington game i think it was it was clear he wasn’t going to score. Thinking back to that game it reminded me of another flop I’d left out which is Jon Flanagan. He was shocking after all the hype.

Because of his reputation it has to be Gazza. He looked finished knackered and not interested in his last Everton performance, what went through Stans mind when he signed him is beyond me, total opposite of Ian Wright.

But we were one goal away from the playoffs… had that free kick gone in Gazza would have been playing for one last hurrah at Wembley in the playoffs… and would possibly have been worshipped here for eternity.

It was a chance Stan fancied… and it had worked with Ian Wright

I think that the main contenders have all been mentioned but I have to agree with the nomination of Ben Gibson

- Joint club record signing
- England call-up (even when playing for an unfashionable club)
- Not too old
- Highly rated by many pundits/other clubs

Add those things together and even though you can say that we got some money back for him we still must've paid him a lot of money for his appearances when you consider fee and wages (even if we didn't end up paying the full fee etc.). What was it? 4 appearances in all competitions or something? Add on to that he got a red card and his red card/games ration was worse than Wayne Thomas!

Such a shame, as at the time I thought it was an immense signing for the club and exactly what we needed to provide competition for Mee and Tarks.

I think that those who are putting Brady forward as a contender in this category are being a little harsh.
Did he live up to expectation/potential? No
Was he our biggest ever flop? No

He mad over 80 appearances for us and while it could have been more and could have had some better quality I don't think that we would have kept him on for the optional extra year had he been our "biggest flop".
When people are talking about the £13m spent on him it was much more value for money than the £15m we spent on Gibson.

But it didn't ! and a more dynamic midfielder would have got us into the play offs earlier IMHO.

Many "not so wonderful" candidates already included but - in their time here - I would suggest Nick Pickering certainly deserves a place in the squad as must Mark "Ratner" Kendall who threw one in (or probably nearer three would be the truth) at Blackpool and then had the cheek to flick the V's at us afterwards. A true disgrace to a Burnley shirt if ever there was one.

I can understand why people include Drinkwater. He really was rubbish. However, I don't consider him a flop because I had such low expectations for him anyway. I could tell in his first interview with the club that he lacked any enthusiasm whatsoever. He clearly didn't want it and didn't want to be at Burnley.

It didn’t work… we all know that now, but questioning Stan’s judgement from retrospect is unfair.. which is what my post alluded to. We were collectively delighted to get him, absolving Stan.

Was he the biggest flop…. Not even in the same league of useless as some that I’ve seen come and go. Burnley could have offered a sponsored hook a duck to get fans in at times.

I spoke to SC about him and one of the players and both said similar but when he was about to report back for full training after the injury was told by Sandy Stewart that he wasn't wanted.

We recouped most of our outlay though when we sold him so we didn't lose a massive amount.

He's made 3 appearances for Norwich this season.

We spent about half that on Gibson in fees, (when he went to Norwich for £8 million that meant our outlay wasn't that bad) the rest of the £15 million was to be made up by add-ons

Roger Hansbury, Mark Kendall, Steve Daley, Gerry Gow, Baker (former City/Southampton), the wall of noise around Sonner and the flattering to deceive of Graham Lancashire’s world beating start. Peter Zelam the fox in the directors box…..

Just from the days of yon…

We spent about half that on Gibson in fees, (when he went to Norwich for £8 million that meant our outlay wasn't that bad) the rest of the £15 million was to be made up by add-ons
Yeah, I mentioned that we wouldn't have paid the full fee but it still doesn't stop him from being the biggest flop - club record signing on paper and 4 appearances, 1 red card and thousands in wages.

Even if we had signed him on a free from Boro (say if he had been at the end of his contract etc) he would still rate as the biggest flop in my eyes with the expectation level.

I was so impressed when we signed him and so disappointed in the whole affair when it all came to an end.

Still, we probably have a few contenders for this not so desirable title 😝

But to fair the story has got a lot bigger in the telling. He was signed to replace Mee, he didn’t simply because Mee changed his mind and stayed, and wasn’t prepared to bide his time… til none of really cared any more, he was an unhappy reserve.
