Ashley Barnes - the positives ?
Ashley Barnes - the positives ?
Well, he had a positive test for drink driving, but I've not seen any other positive for almost two seasons

I genuinely don't see what he offers anymore. He hasn't been as effective since VAR come in. I think he'd struggle in championship these days. Honestly can't my head around Dyche's choices sometimes.

Bizarre post just to slag off a brilliant servant of the club.

He contributed more than Lennon; I know, that wasn't difficult, but it's the nearest to positive I can manage.

Re: Ashley Barnes - the positives ?
Be careful there’s some posters on here are still buzzing with his performances from over 3 years ago.
Completely and utterly out of his depth. To the point it looks like we are playing with a beer drinking, hooligan fan on the pitch not a professional footballer.

Er, yep.
But more importantly Vydra brings out the best in Wood.
Re: Ashley Barnes - the positives ?
I’m referring to the dig about drink driving. I agree he needs to be dropped but you can’t question his commitment to the club. Our supply tonight was non existent. Harry Kane would’ve struggled!willsclarets wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 9:54 pmHe has been a great servant, but since his injury he's been awful. Wasn't any worse than Wood today. Should have had an assist for his layoff to Brownhill.

Fiorget Vydra, Barnes and Roidruiguez. We need to go 5 across midfield, tonight Westwood and Brownhill were simply over run. Many of Brownhills passes were backwards and literally several yards only, plus he missed a sitter

AB, love the lad, been a brilliant acquisition but unfortunately his time is up at this level, but we need a player of his ilk which Wood and JayRod don`t have

Re: Ashley Barnes - the positives ?
You could argue that most of the side bar 4 or 5 are championship standard. We've been lucky that the strong jaw mentality of the side has seen us fight and stay up and more over the last few seasons. That fight isn't there right now.DAVETHEVICAR wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 9:59 pmVydra is what somebody on this thread called Barnes

Absolute rubbish. Do you want to watch this rubbish week in week out? Of course you don't. Again - it's a public forum, surely you expect a range of opinions on here. We all want the very best for the club and people are miserable but thats only because of the passion that we have for this club.

Some great memories but he’s now miles off ,should never play for Burnley again . As for Brownhill he’s never a prem player and will hopefully be upgraded in next window

He can't help being picked every week.
It's not his fault.
Leave the lad alone.

Yes I did notice. I also noticed the endless amount of times we got into positions and passed it backwards. It just didn’t click tonight for me.AfloatinClaret wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 10:06 pmYou didn't notice the McNeil cross to Wood early on them?
Re: Ashley Barnes - the positives ?
Brilliant servant over the years.
He has always been limited technically and relied on his physicality which is now also waning as he gets older and the league gets stronger.
He is well past his best at this level. Taking the emotion out of it how on earth Vydra doesn’t start ahead of him is bizarre. That will be yet another expensive signing leaving on a free transfer, unfortunately.

Re: Ashley Barnes - the positives ?
I think Vydra offers us a bit more, but Wood aside I don't think any of our other strikers are Premier League quality these days. Time for Cornet wide and McNeil central?

Re: Ashley Barnes - the positives ?
It’s sad to see his Burnley career peter out like this. He’s been a good player for us in the past and I think most fans would prefer to remember that. Dyche clearly thinks the Wood and Barnes combo is working well. I bet no other Pl manager can see what that is. The positive will be if a League One team or bottom end Championship team take him off our hands in the Jan window.

Re: Ashley Barnes - the positives ?
The positive (singular) he's been a brilliant (bargain) signing and i have loved him and what he's given us over the years.
That's it though. He should now be on the bench and not anywhere near starting and we should be looking to ship him out as he's a busted flush (and I say that with a heavy heart, but it's true)

And I was called a prick and a disgrace by pushpin for daring to suggest that Barnes be dropped last season because other forwards make Chris Wood play better, and Wood is our most important forward asset! Hmmmmmm

Absolute mystery why he continues to start games especially given how promising Wood and Vydra looked at the end of last season. Actually can’t remember last time he had a good game.

Vydra and Dyche fell out a few weeks ago over the shape Vydra returned in after his summer holiday.
Think they are still at the making up point
