Forgive my ignorance but why has Roy Keane all of a sudden become an interesting managerial presence? Because he said he was still interested in getting back into management in an interview where he's walking his dog in a park?
Goodness Roy Keane ............................ I nearly fell off the chair reading that one

Roy Keane  he talks the talk, but he couldn't walk the walk could he.

Great pundit, terrible manager.

Basically Yes. But also, he came to watch us a lot when he was Ireland assistant so would be familiar with the club, the players and how we played and his record isn't that bad.

I'm not suggesting we sack Dyche BTW, or bring Keane in. It's a hypothetical list of real potential next managers for the discussion.

Is that Joni Mitchell I can hear playing in the background ;-)

Keane could cause a row in an empty dressing room.

bloody ridiculous that Dyche is still in charge when Conte and Zidane are out of work. Get them both in and spend 500 million in January, well easy this football lark. I've simulated all this on football manager so I know for a fact it can be done..........

Pep could be an option. He wants out of City for international football…. But he doesn’t know some Burnley fans are desperate for a change, yet.

Are you sure the team is well drilled, or at least is as well drilled as it used to be? Looks all over the place at times.
I have confidence in the managerial capabilities of the manager, and am unlikely to be swayed by short term results. The trend of over performing against resources is consistent enough to give more than enough rope - and yes, that includes relegation (an inevitability at some point for this club) should it happen.

His record isn't that bad when compared to what? At premier league level? At a level where he hasn't had more money than most other managers? I@m sorry, but that's an absolute nonsense.

So are you saying that discipline and effort this and last season are at the same levels they were in (say) 2018-19 season?

Interesting you mention the 18/19 season, we garnered 12 points from 19 games during the 1st half of that campaign.

And I remember plenty of clamour for SD to go during that fallow period as well, but we stuck with him, and came through that tough spell.

However the only reason we woke from our slumbers was SD made changes to the team, Heaton and McNeil in particular spring to mind, so SD might want to reflect on that when he selects his starting XI for the Arsenal game.

Is the discipline still there? Our disciplinary record suggests so, but players are being asked to adapt over and above what they have and that is were errors are a normal part of taking a side from point A to point B.

Yes. as output showed, with a single point difference between 2018/19 and last season. This season is 4 games old, and performances have been in the main reasonable in all 4 games. I'm presuming from your line of questioning, you don't? You presumably think that there's a big gap from that 2018/19 season you cited as the benchmark?

That’s like saying if I’m having ongoing trouble with my girlfriend the last 6 months, she can reply yes but you had trouble with me in 2018 and it’s still the same trouble so what’s your problem?

Problem is, I’m still having trouble 🤷🤷🤷

If your girlfriend was out of your league in 2018, is still out of your league now, and your whinging cos of her fake tan glove in the shower..... you would need to learn that the problem isn't the fake tan glove in the shower.

Well I'm not sure that they are so similar. We lost a lot of games (Hart in goal) early on, but pulled it round.
This season, and for a fair bit towards the end of last season I'd say our discipline, particularly shape and marking, has deteriorated.

This season we've lost a lot of games early..... and the fan reaction is slightly more severe of it's all going wrong. Who knows if we will pull it around this time, but the pattern isn't new.

Exactly.
I'm not saying it's new. I'm not wetting the bed.
I am suggesting that (in my opinion) we are not quite on the money with the basics.
Is this a gradual downward trend?
I think everyone on here would accept that we were propped up last season by the 3 terrible teams below us. It can't keep happening.

No we weren't. Can you get your facts straight please?

We got 39 points. In recent seasons 36 points has been good enough to keep teams up in the Prem and it will this season.

The way that the current division shapes up means that the big six, plus a few others get enough points to stop the bottom three getting anymore than 34-35 points at most.

So even if Fulham, West Brom and Sheff United had got a few more points they would only have matched the likes of Bournemouth from the previous season.

Edit: And just to add, last season we didn't have to take too many points off the bottom three to survive either, which was quite pleasing.

Sorry, but had one of those 3 teams managed 40 points we'd have gone down. The very fact that they were rubbish ensured our survival.

Don’t want him to go at all but absolutely want him to react to the game. Those 3 games when we are ahead and their manager changes formation, if we pull Barnes for the extra 3rd CM and block LM up with Pieters instead of McNeil we win 2 out of 3 of them I reckon. I’m not sure if it’s stubbornness or a failure to see. Watching him, Woan and Stone talking into their mouths in the 75th minute before doing like for like plug and play subs is becoming a parody of itself.

If he starts the same 11 and does the same on Saturday then it has to be stubbornness.

He's beginning to believe he's bigger than the club

As I said, it's virtually impossible for any of the three relegated clubs to get 40 points these days anyway.

We haven’t seen which clubs are going to implode this season, someone always does. We are not having a good time on the field right now, I worried for us for a time last season for the first time… but unlike most who felt like that I think the fact we were so poor for so long and yet still sat pretty before the final day, if anything convinced me there is very little to worry about. Goodness knows how high we will finish if we have a season where everything clicks again, we may look poor at the moment but we’re still comfortably Premier League standard.

But 39 is easily achievable, then?
I'm no mathematician, but am I correct in thinking that if 3 out of 20 pick up very few points then the share out for the other 17 is higher?

11 years ago was the last time - Birmingham.

Anyway, I don't want to divert this thread away from all those who want SD to be given the boot. ;)

No, that’s a myth. The points the team got last season would have been enough to stay up in each of the 8 seasons that Burnley have been in the premier league.

Well lets just hope we reach the giddy heights of a 39 point 17th again this season...
and bung all the playing and coaching staff a thumping great bonus for doing it. :D

I'm not sure starting Ashley Barnes suggests Dyche is trying to improve our style of play. If anything we've gone even more direct so far this season.

I saw why SD started Barnes he wanted to make sure Everton didn’t settle. Why Barnes was still on after an hour I found confusing. However, SD picks his times to deliver the bang. He has a few players coming in and he’s planning a time when things can and need to come together. That is when we see this season’s Burnley team… not now.

People think we are maintaining our previous standards; OK, that's their view to which they are obviously entitled...
but this is not a view shared by pundits.
A few seasons ago our defensive shape was shown as exemplary, it isn't now.
I get that SD is trying to evolve our playing stile, but he hasn't got the staff for it.

Well I cannot argue for or against you point as most of the comings and going’s of back room staff blur after the shock of realising Stepney was teaching our goalkeepers… thinking I’d seen everything, I stopped looking that closely. :D

It isn't a fans job to pick a replacement?
We have so many experts though on here who know exactly where Dyche has gone wrong, when he loses the dressing room etc.

Why can't the same experts put forward a replacement?
You're acting like a drama queen, same as Tiger.
Fans have the right to share their opinion, this is a platform to do so.

The title is ''for ALL those people who want Dyche gone'', it's a negative headline and a complete overreaction to suggest many people want Dyche gone, I've seen maximum 3 posters who claim they want Dyche to go, it's definitely not a mass outcry for him to leave is it?

No, that’s a myth. The points the team got last season would have been enough to stay up in each of the 8 seasons that Burnley have been in the premier league.
That's true but if Fulham and WBA weren't so useless they'd have rightfully beat us at home, that's automatically 4 less points. The margins were very very tight, despite the bottom 3 sides picking up no points.

Well lets just hope we reach the giddy heights of a 39 point 17th again this season...
and bung all the playing and coaching staff a thumping great bonus for doing it. :D
Rightly so, it would be another fantastic achievement.

You’d get a yellow at least for that on the field…

Strange. You've called for his removal plenty of times on here.
Not really strange for someone to change their opinion 3 years down the line. I'm certainly not Dyche out atm

I think it was even longer than 3 years ago, potentially 5 when Silva was at Hull.

I think it is clear SD is trying to develop a more flowing style of football, something many have been calling for throughout his time in charge. More expansive football inevitably incurs more risk and will take time to get right, something Football Manager experts don’t understand from their fantasy gaming.
It isn’t clear to me at all that he’s trying to develop a more flowing style. If anything, the style has regressed. We’ve certainly been more physical this season than previously. And I’m not sure pairing Barnes with Wood up top is conducive to a free flowing style.

Quick look at possession stats against Everton suggests a very different approach to “lump it up on the break and get a corner” football Burnley are so often accused of.

Which is testament to Dyche's achievements.

Silva? Oh yeah, I remember him. The guy you wanted to replace Dyche?

What's he up to these days?

Well I cannot argue for or against you point as most of the comings and going’s of back room staff blur after the shock of realising Stepney was teaching our goalkeepers… thinking I’d seen everything, I stopped looking that closely. :D
Stepney??? You are joking?

By staff I really meant playing staff.

I think he has more players able to play at a very high level to cover most bases, yes areas could be improved but we’re looking at a proven solid unit that’s grinding a bit but about and about to be serviced. I’m not worried, I’m cautiously excited.

Anytime we have a bad run the usual suspects crawl out from under their rocks and demand he goes.
So all that's being asked is suggestions as to who they'd want to replace him.

Yes I remember your behaviour a few years ago, it was absolutely hilarious let's be honest, but you're not the same person now so this post wasn't really aimed at you because I genuinely can't remember the last time you wanted Dyche out.

If fans want a manager fired, they should be able to name alternatives.

My 17 yr old son could do it with the NFL, in which he supports the SF 49ers.
He can name who he'd want to replace the GM, the coach, the offensive or defensive coaches etc, all with valid reasoning.
Which of the off/Def coaches he thinks could make the step up to head coach.
He even knew who he wanted his team to go for in the draft.

If he can do that, why can't seasoned Burnley fans do the same when asked?

No we weren't. Can you get your facts straight please?

We got 39 points. In recent seasons 36 points has been good enough to keep teams up in the Prem and it will this season.

The way that the current division shapes up means that the big six, plus a few others get enough points to stop the bottom three getting anymore than 34-35 points at most.

So even if Fulham, West Brom and Sheff United had got a few more points they would only have matched the likes of Bournemouth from the previous season.

Edit: And just to add, last season we didn't have to take too many points off the bottom three to survive either, which was quite pleasing.
Last season, our away form kept us up...historically that has never been the case. Teams have now sussed us out, and we have reverted to the tough stuff...only going one way.
