That Tarkowski Tackle

Post by dandeclaret » Tue Sep 14, 2021 7:14 am

By the current laws of the game, probably a Red card.

However, I enjoyed it. Richard is on goes around getting involved in stuff all the time, and I actually wished that firm, ball first challenges were still allowed in the game. There’s got to be a way for defenders to put their mark on the game, and test the mental side of attacking players.

Where’s your thoughts at? How would you feel if that tackle was the opposite way round? If that was a bug Everton centre half on Dwight, would you want a red, or would you be saying, it’s a good tackle? What if the tackle on Dwight resulted in a bad injury? Would you change your mind on the punishment?

Never a free kick never mind a red.

Great challenge whoever does it. Injuries don't make a challenge bad.

A good challenge for me.

His follow through was with the inside of his thigh, so more dramatic than dangerous.

Perfectly fine to me. Enjoyed it. The kind of challenge that sends a message to think twice next time.

For years there's been a lack of physical challenges in the sport and it's an area of the game I enjoy.

Those are the tackles we need rid of. Tarks knew what he was doing in that he could win the ball and take out the man. Went in with way to much force and thats how players can end up seriously injured.

Refereeing in the Euros and in the Prem this season is refreshing and whilst its great to stop all those nothing fouls when players go down under hardly any contact but we still want to protect against tackles where players are deliberately trying to leave one on a player with a force that is dangerous

It was just on the right side of naughty for me. You’ve got to have a bit of that in the game and it didn’t look like Richarlison was too hurt by it. It was right in front of us and there was a lot of looking around at the ref rather than actual wincing.

No issues with the tackle as it was, but get it slightly wrong and...
Couldn't have happened on a better player.

They are the best type of tackles and ones we thrive off
Take as much of the ball as possible and their man

I'm surprised he wasn't booked. But the ref was on the lenient side all night. (No complaints there.)

It looked like Richarlison did something similar to Mee right by the far corner flag in the first half, but they didn't show any replays of that one.

Nothing wrong with the tackle but as a poster mentioned, Tarkowski would need to be careful with them as if you misjudge a tackle like that by an inch, it's a red and you can have no complaints.

But the tackle itself last night was judged perfectly and a good challenge.

Anybody notice Richardilsons tackle on Mee in the first half that tarks reacted too?? Sky didn’t even show a reply. Just like they didn’t until 10 mins after with the penalty shout.

One positive from this season ( there aren’t many) is Tarkowski’s tackling. His timing is great and he is fair but hard in the challenge.

It's all good and well saying it was a good challenge but where was tarks when gray was through on goal. In his head them tackles are the reason he should be playing for a top club when in reality the real moments in games he's nowhere to be seen.

I saw nothing wrong with the challenge. It was spot on. Either way it could have been dangerous but because Tarks executed the tackle well it wasn’t dangerous.

I heard Neville crying about it last night and that tackled like that should be no more. If that’s so we may as well play tag football.

You need to look at the bigger picture. Rather than asking where Tarks was ask where the midfield was tracking Gray (Westwood I think).

Red card for me. It doesn't really matter if we see it as a strong but fair tackle the laws state otherwise, unfortunately. The follow through was intentional and "could" have caused the obnoxious, cheating, whinging little s4it that is Richarlison, serious injury. As some have said, the other way round and Keane did that to McNeil we would be screaming for a red.

Don't now if people saw the exchange of words in the first half when Tarks was upset by Richalisons challenge on Mee. I thought to myself, Tarks will wait for the opportunity and "get him". Jack Charlton would do this to people he did not like. It happened-well timed and could have seriously injured the Everton player. It was a yellow card, but not a red. I think Tarks will need to be careful now as refs will focus on him, and for me his strong tackling is a real feature of his game

He was clean through on goal why an earth would Westwood be there lol what bigger picture is this he was reckless all night elbows diving in all over the place but when it mattered he was nowhere to be seen for the goals.

To paraphrase Cantona on Fever Pitch last night, I wish Tarky had tackled him harder.

It reminded me of Duff vs Di Maria. Both players were a shadow of themselves after those tackles. It’s part of the game. It’s a tough contact sport - if we get all fragile about wanting those banned, we also have to ban Wood from casually heading the free kick while in the wall, because of the dementia risk (to me, far more dangerous).

Tarky was in control (ish), not too high off the ground and took the ball cleanly rather than just clipping it.

By the current laws of the game I would call it a yellow - reckless but not dangerously excessive, which would have been if he was miles off the ground and in danger of breaking a leg. That wasn’t the case in this instance.

The ref and (presumably) VAR considered it a fair challenge and there was no card.
However after the pundits focussed on the tackle and with the likes of Klopp around, if Tarks defends like that on Saturday against (say) Lacazette he will be publicly flogged, debagged and sent to a Siberian prison camp. The Arsenal player will still be rolling and screaming this time next week.

The ball was there for Tarks to win, and he won it. If Richarlison was worried, HE should have pulled out. The alternative is Tarks pulls out, why the hell should he.

As mentioned earlier, Tarks had warned the Brazilian what might happen. Bided his time, saw his opportunity and frightened him. Got the ball, which is why tackling is part of the game. Won't be for long though because the beautiful game remains an impossible dream for many. The Brazilian didn't seem too interested after that although they won a throw-in. Once tackling is eliminated from a game that would just about be it for me but I've had a good 'run'.

The message had clearly gone out to knock Everton off stride. Tarks tackle was a thing of beauty, as a centre half there is nothing you want more than being able to legally reduce the attacking threat by putting fear into the opposition strike force and making them lose a focus. But it deserved a warning yellow, otherwise you end up with Norman Hunter type tactics creeping in.

Yes, I was really annoyed we never got to see exactly what really went on with Richarlison's challenge on Mee, but it clearly wasn't very good and left Mee prostrate. Tarky for one was incensed by it and that was obviously in his mind when he tackled Richarlison in the second half. A fair challenge for me tbh, but one which left Richarlison thinking twice and looking over his shoulder and there's nowt wrong with that!!!

If people think Tarkowski should have been sent off then they must also think Richarlison should have been shown a red as well as that was a far more deliberate attempt to hurt Ben Mee.

I was delighted when Richardson did that… it suggested we had got to him. Had we been able to keep it going I had no doubt he would see red before full time. It was the reason SD went with Barnes from the start to ruffle Everton… Dyche if anything is too cautious when it’s job done and has to be brave enough to change our game from a winning position, even when everything appears to be under control and going our way, until we lose the initiative and then it becomes much more difficult to wrestle control back.

The point (whether you agree with it or not) is that if their follow through after getting the ball is going to get the player too, then they shouldn't be making the tackle.

Missed the game last night so from the furore on twitter I was expecting so see Tarkowski assaulting Richarlison akin to Keane on Haaland. Seen it now and it's a superb tackle. Clears the ball into the stand. Football remains a contact sport, nothing wrong with the tackle at all.

1 footed tackle, both feet on the ground, in complete control. If that goes out of the game we might as well pack it in and have the chuckle brothers in charge.

The ball is in front of the player in most cases, so your saying you should stop dead after touching the ball. The tackle was hard but fair, and proved it by him getting straight up.

Thought it was reckless and was lucky to avoid at least a yellow. Think we'd be fuming if, for example, Godfrey flies in on McNeil like that.

Do you mean like richarlison did to Ben mee, and nothing was said. It's part of a contact sport game.

Think we'd be fuming if, for example, Godfrey flies in on McNeil like that.
that in a nut shell sums it up for me (and this is in no way aimed at Swizzle), people watching the game have become so accustomed to it becoming a non contact sport that the art of tacking isn't appreciated any longer.
