Thought it was reckless and was lucky to avoid at least a yellow. Think we'd be fuming if, for example, Godfrey flies in on McNeil like that.
You might be, I wouldn't.

It will not be too long before those running the game ---the PL Elite ---- get together and devise a way of protecting their players by asking that every physical challenge is seen as a foul one way or the other. I'm sure that Klopp and Benitez will be on the case already!
It has been a refreshing start to the season with referees allowing contact and not blowing for a free kick every time a player is tackled and goes down. Sadly, I do not think that this will last and I shall be in the same boat as sikyskills.

1 footed tackle, both feet on the ground, in complete control. If that goes out of the game we might as well pack it in and have the chuckle brothers in charge.
That might be nearer than you think. Klopp's beautiful game in Teutonic colour.

Very accurate summary.

Richardson was due one, so no issue from me, that he did it. My description prevails.

For all the back and forth about the tackle he went missing for the goals no point acting like cannavaro then turn into a mouse when your needed most.

You are mistaking ball for Richarlison. It was him in row z!

From time to time he will make mistakes like all defenders. But he doesn't make many and has been excellent for us.

You've mistaken a pigeon for Richarlison. Easily done I suppose.

The ball was the first contact. The follow through was major and meant. A booking but one he would have happily accepted, had the ref given him one!

Brownhill, on the other hand was literally pushed over by Townsend, who got the fk, where he wanted it and got Brownhill booked.

Great challenge against a serial winger

The modern game would probably see that as ‘endangering the player’ and I wouldn’t have been surprised to see a red card.

However, my view is that these sort of challenges are becoming too much of a rarity in the modern game. It was a proper, old school, fair but firm challenge.

In some respects, I think that the modern player is less prepared for such a challenge. They almost expect not to be challenged in such a way.

I don’t want to see injuries but nor do I want the game to become so light touch that it becomes more of a shadow of what it used to be.

Great post and perfectly summarises how I feel. Strong tackling is a fine skill but too often in short supply. Unfortunately it's disappearing from the game. I realise that y view may be seen as outdated by some.

I agree with this. Players are less inclined to protect themselves. You used to know if you found yourself in that position you were getting smashed. You’d try and knock it past the defender and send him flying past you and you’re a world beater.
However, if you sense he’s got you you get your legs up in the air to avoid your studs getting caught and make sure you land on the defender with knees and elbows so he thinks twice next time

Yet the players at the big clubs, such as Fernandinho at Man City have been able to foul players week in, week out, without the remotest chance of getting a yellow.

And all that said, we are arguably one of the cleanest teams in the Prem with regards to red cards.

Agree Spijed. Certain players are spared the indignity of a yellow, until they deserved a red.

There's no such thing as hardly touched the ball, you either hit it, or you don't. Tarks got plenty of the ball, and to make that contact he had little option other than to follow through. I'm sure Tarks enjoyed it, as did we, but if he intended to injure him, then I've no doubt he would have.

Yes, I was really annoyed we never got to see exactly what really went on with Richarlison's challenge on Mee, but it clearly wasn't very good and left Mee prostrate. Tarky for one was incensed by it and that was obviously in his mind when he tackled Richarlison in the second half. A fair challenge for me tbh, but one which left Richarlison thinking twice and looking over his shoulder and there's nowt wrong with that!!!

That’s the one mate. Weird how sky isn’t show it at all, the commentators were woeful that night too. Constantly saying we were roughing Everton up yet disregarding tackles like this and the penalty until 10 mins later on and in this case never at al. Sick of it.

The fact Neville and they spitting scouse called the tarks one a bad tackle just shows the hypocrisy of sky and it’s pundits.

Falling out of love with football even more at the minute and that’s not because of dycheball either

"Dycheball"??? In previous seasons I would have agreed with you but this season I'm not seeing much of the hoof ball during our games. Maybe late on in games but generally it's been a lot more expansive.

Have to agree on the commentators. There was a real Everton love-in going on.

I’m using Dycheball as a generalisation really. No plan B is the main issue. But in my defence as long as Barnes is on the pitch we will always play dycheball.

Also another daft thing is that we play like we have with the same side against arsenal we win on Saturday.

As mentioned earlier, Tarks had warned the Brazilian what might happen. Bided his time, saw his opportunity and frightened him. Got the ball, which is why tackling is part of the game. Won't be for long though because the beautiful game remains an impossible dream for many. The Brazilian didn't seem too interested after that although they won a throw-in. Once tackling is eliminated from a game that would just about be it for me but I've had a good 'run'.
I seriously considered giving up on Premier after last season. The Euros gave enough for me to look see if the refereeing would improve this season, and it is a much better watch this time around… but if and when the prima donnas get their way again, that will be it for me.
