"Will Burnley win the Premier League?"
Interesting quotes in 5pm edition of Times on Line this evening.
Will Burnley win the Premier League? “Most people will dismiss the possibility,” he says. “Apart from the Burnley fans.” Equally, though, “a bookmaker cannot ignore it”. Because, sometimes, Burnley win.
The quotes are from Professor Graham Medley, from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). Medley wasn't getting himself fully involved with who might win the Premier League... and who might not.
Some will guess what topic Medley has on his mind and how he was trying to illustrate difficulties of modelling. He apparently was addressing his comments to the Government.
On this occasion I'm going to just leave the quotes about Burnley and the Premier League. The other topic is "off limits" for our message board.
A couple of thoughts: I wonder if Medley was referring to this season or allowing that it may happen in any future season? I wonder also if Medley knows that it isn't so many years ago that Burnley did win the top division.
It's not impossible.

Re: "Will Burnley win the Premier League?"
That is his point I think everything is infinite. Can Burnley win the league… of course they can, will they soon it’s unlikely, not impossible. Think he’s spot on… hope we prove his theory for him soon.Paul Waine wrote: ↑Wed Sep 15, 2021 7:34 pmInteresting quotes in 5pm edition of Times on Line this evening.

Chelsea, Man City, Leicester have all been crap not too long ago! Unlikely but not impossible.

Re: "Will Burnley win the Premier League?"
Incredibly unlikely that we'll ever win the PL, but as Leicester have shown in recent years, with good management, and a sensible transfer strategy, allied to a cracking scouting system, and perhaps most crucially the traditional big clubs all having poor seasons, anything is possible in football, or indeed in sport generally as Emma Raducanu sowed in New York.
Realistically unless BFC whether through ALK or another outside investor can generate mega money, it's simply not going to happen, like it or not the game has moved on from the 1960's & 1970's when provincial clubs could hope to challenge the big city teams, our ceiling was probably the time we came 7th, and as great an achievement as that was, it only happened because we overperformed, and 5/6 other teams underperformed.
Success for us is becoming a solid mid-table PL side, and maybe having a crack at one of the cups in a good season, anything else unfortunately is pure fantasy I'm afraid.

I don't think the example of Leicester is relevant. They only won the league because they had a huge amount of Thailand's wealth given to them. The other reasons are peripheral.

Hence why I said without significant investment our chances are slim to nil. And that applies to most clubs outwith the big 6.

Re: "Will Burnley win the Premier League?"
It would need a season like the one Leicester had.
So many top teams were out of sorts that single season, Leicester just seemed to keep picking up the results and their only real challengers, Spurs, managed to end up 3rd in what was really a 2 horse race.
I know the media like to get all romantic and whimsical about that season, but Leicester had an awful lot of luck and stuff go their way.

What kind of wealth? Drinkwater, Mahrez, Kante, Vardy were their best players, signed for less than £3m combined.
Huth, Wes Morgan, Danny Simpson, Kaspar and Fuchs the back 5, probably cost a combined £2m.

Yes. Burnley WILL win the Premier League.

Unless we change ownership to someone who has no limits in how much they wanna invest, we will never win The Prem!
Re: "Will Burnley win the Premier League?"
If we add some luck, we will romp it!
Leicester won on penalties! Refs gave one, every time Vardy fell over....just to keep the momentum.

If the Premier League lasts a million more years, every team will win it.

Re: "Will Burnley win the Premier League?"
It's worth pointing out that only 7 teams have ever lifted the PL trophy since it's inception, namely Arsenal, Blackburn, Chelsea, Leicester, Liverpool, Manchester City & Manchester United, and 2 huge clubs in the shape of Everton & Spurs have never come close to winning it, so that shows the stark reality of how unlikely a club of Burnley's stature has to genuinely compete in the modern era.

Re: "Will Burnley win the Premier League?"
Given an infinite number of players and an infinite number of games...................Burnley might come 7th again.
