Thought this might be an RIP thread when I saw his name.

An interesting career he had, and he was unfortunately known more for the collapse of the Sinclair c5.

RIP Clive

A real visionary and his home computers certainly had an impact on my life when my dad bought me a ZX81 for Christmas, something probably in some way responsible for the career I have now. A real shame that he’s often ridiculed over the Sinclair C5, I hope he’s remembered for what he achieved rather his failure.

I had a ZX81 with a 1K memory. Wrote about 10 lines of code and the thing ceased to function. Very educational though (once I added a 64K memory) and have always been grateful for this.

RIP Sir Clive.

There was a girl who lived down the road from my dad who had one of those Sinclair bike/car/trolley things...I was fascinated by it and also slightly jealous.
Some on eBay now.

I bought my daughter a Spectrum 48 so we could play! Even my wife liked Horace goes Skiing!

Thank you Sir Clive.

Not many will influence the world as much as he has.

Sounds like he got ideas off the ground and other bigger fish took it on a notch.

Can you imagine sat in/on an open trolley beside or behind buses and lorries waiting at traffic lights and the like. It was never going to take off for me and kind of overshadowed some of his better creations.

The C5 really was a mind fart. They used to rent them out at St. Annes prom, they were utter death traps. But, his ZX machines were a Revolution in home computing, and for most at the time a glimpse of the computer world. RIP

Sinclair started off with miniature matchbox sized radios that you could build yourself. There were Sinclair Hi-Fi systems, watches, and the Cambridge calculators. Stylish designs, great looking. The ZX80, 81 and Spectrums made home computers affordable and sold in the millions. The C5 was a bit too early to market but set the pace for the electric vehicles of today. What a guy!

I had a spectrum and loved it, apart from when you pressed play on the cassette player to load a game, went for your tea it took so long and came back to find it hadn’t loaded properly so you had to start again!

And the noise it made while it was loading.
