Your starting eleven vs Arsenal

Post by Newcastleclaret93 » Fri Sep 17, 2021 10:50 am

Team selections to be based on current fitness. Long and Robert’s unavailable.

Pope

I'd make two changes from Monday - Cork & Vydra for Brownhill & Barnes

What would I like to see:

Pope
Lowts Tarks Mee Taylor
Brownhill Westwood
Cornet McNeil JBG

I fully expect SD to become more cautious and flood midfield tomorrow, therefore:

Pope
Lowton Tarky Mee Taylor
JBG Brownhill Cork Westwood McNeil
Wood

But I wouldn't be suprised at all if he went with the same 11 as Monday night.

I would like to see, when players are fit and ready of course:

Pope
Roberts Tarky Mee Taylor
Cornet Cork Westwood McNeil
Wood Vydra

And me.

Hb’s second selection I’d like to be seeing in the next month or so….once the players are up to speed and fully aware of their roles.

If everyone was fit, I would love to see something like the below. But for tomorrow I think CT could be correct.

Pope
Lowton
Tarkowski
Mee
Taylor
JBG
Cork
Westwood
McNeil
Wood
Barnes

Arsenal's frailties in defence in defending long balls, corners, free kicks etc will be why Barnes will start with Wood.

Pope
Lowton Tarks Mee Taylor
JBG Brownhill Cork McNeil
Wood Vydra

Westwood to replace Cork on 65 mins if he looks to be tiring

Cornet to replace JBG around 65 mins if we are losing

Lowton and JBG are now under pressure from Roberts and Cornet (spellcheck tried to change his name to Comet ☄️ 😀) so they must put in good performances every match

I know it won't happen but I wouldn't mind seeing 5-4-1

We have had massive problems in between Taylor and Mee on the left, but Aubameyang usually rips Lowton apart on his inside.

But we need to get after them as well. Get a win on the board, so put your best players on the pitch Dychey lad.

Probably be the same again although if any changes are made likely to be Barnes and JBG that drop out for Cork and Vyds IMO.

What I would like to see is

Pope
Lowton Tarks Mee Taylor
Cork Brownhill
JBG McNeil Cornet
Wood

5 in midfield with wood up front.

Cornet on for the last 15 if we’re losing

Lennon to keep the bench warm

More Terry Venables than Dyche.

It wouldn't be a bad shout to play against Rochdale though.

One of 2:

Pope
Lowton Tarks Mee Pieters
JBG Westwood Cork McNeil
Wood Vydra

I thought about Cornet on the left with McNeil as CAM, but I don't actually know if Cornet is any good.

or

Pope
Lowton Collins Tarks Mee Cornet
Cork Westwood
JBG McNeil
Wood

Truth be told, I just think we need to shore up the left back position. Most of the goals we have conceded this season have come from Taylor, whether not close enough, slipping or just generally not dealing with the situations. He's great going forward, but we are losing Mee when he has to try and cover for him defensively. Pieters is always solid if not spectacular and in that left back position I just want solid at the moment.

I don't think I'll say anything that hasn't already been said about Barnes. He used to be a player we imagined would be horrible to play against, I don't think that is the case at the moment, in any sense.

It will be really disappointing too see Brownhill or Barnes start but I expect at least one of them will. It will also be disappointing to see really late reactive subs again.

One of the stranger ones this. Need to improve left back defensively, so put cornet who is more attacking in.

Blimey! If you think we get steamrollered in centre midfield at the moment imagine what would happen here!

Reckon it’ll be same again. Barnes kept in with a brief to wind up as many Arsenal players as possible, but little else.

I’d like to see (other than Barnes out for Vydra of course) Cornet out on left, JBG on right and McNeil shifted in to right midfield. Think that would a pretty wicked left side. But would it make us unbalanced?

That way he can bring Barnes on for last ten minutes if we are behind!

I think changes are needed.

Pope
Lowton Tarky Mee Pieters
Cornet Cork Westwood McNeil
Vydra Wood

Harsh on Taylor, but I think we need some defensive solidity down that left flank which has been lacking in recent games. Cork for Brownhill is for the same reason, and a little more composure on the ball. Vydra for Barnes simply because Ash is not offering anything at the moment, it has to be done.

Cornet a wild card and unlikely to happen I realise, but I think we need more penetration down the right and certainly a pacy outlet.

I only put Cornet in as there are 3 centre backs... I do see your point though, but Cornet is a left wing-back isn't he?
I suppose I could have left Taylor in, but like I mentioned, mistakes are coming from him.

He didn't say he was to be fair. He was referring to some recent defensive weaknesses from Taylor. He's right and there is a case for Pieters although personally I'd stick with Taylor.

Would be very surprised if Barnes is dropped for this one - Vydra sooner rather than later if things aren't going well but not a starter

Cork for Brownhill - that seems sensible if we've got the ball but not so sure without it

The 3 that should come into contention for this one, are Cork, Pieters & Vydra. For Brownhill, Taylor and Barnes respectively.

I really don’t get the obsession with going three at the back. None of our CBs are quick enough or have the distribution to play in that system. We would get torn apart by any team with speed.

Our record of playing 3 CBs highlights this. (conceded 4 goals on average across two games).

Don’t know which games you are referring to but I can only recall three v Spurs, Arsenal & Everton although we did concede eight.

Totally agree though that our squad is not set up for playing three central defenders.

Hennessey
Lowton Tarks Mee Taylor
Cornet Cork Westwood McNeil
Vydra Wood
