I've always wondered who owned that car with the plate KN0B 1, seen it many times parked around the Turf.

Re: Personalised Number Plates
I curently have one that spells out my last name it cost 299, although looking to get a couple more fore the wife and kids, but they are standard registration plates.
But I wont be going more than £500, which I think is reasonable.
MA09CCA I've seen a few variations on this with different numbers, and I'm also lucky enough that my daughters name can be spelt in one too, so I'm trying to locate her name with 09 in the middle as it's her birth tear, and I'll then give it her as a gift when shes 18.
I've problem with personalised plates, some people "waste" their money on fancy clothes, expensive watches or a flashy car when others that cost a lot less do "exactly the same thing"
Each to their own, if you earn your money spend it on what you like, theres zero harm can be done with buying a personalised plate IMO.

A lot of my neighbours have them seemingly for the sole reason that you can’t immediately tell that their BMW that they spend every Sunday morning washing and waxing is 10 years old

Re: Personalised Number Plates
One of the best stories I heard about personal plates was regarding Max Bygraves. Now some of our younger readers may never heard of him but he was an excellent crooner in his day and a TV Celebrity to boot. Anyway he owned MB 1 and Mercedes wanted it. They tried to buy it from him to no avail and eventually sent him a blank cheque for him to fill in what he wanted for the plate. He sent the cheque back. Pure class.

To be honest I can’t care less what others think about personalised plates and my plate in particularly. It means something to me, was bought as a present so the rest you can do one

Re: Personalised Number Plates
The Mrs family have them and I got one similar as a present a bit ago - look alright when they’re together and not stupidly priced.

Now on a black 2019 Land Rover Velar that is, currently, untaxed.CaptJohn wrote: ↑Sat Sep 18, 2021 8:55 amIf I'm on a long journey I keep my attention by doing anagrams of car number plates that pass by thus I'm very interested in personal plates. One of the best I've seen was on the M6 northbound and I think Arsenal were the visitors to the Turf. It was a sporty looking Merc with a red and white Gooners scarf in the back window with the reg 505 EXY. They had changed it slightly to 50 5EXY which I thought was clever and amusing.

How was his driving if he was driving like TW4T fair enough ... but to call someone a TW4T just because he has an Aston with a pvt plate is a tad jealous Asg ...Alanstevensonsgloves wrote: ↑Sat Sep 18, 2021 8:09 pmWas driving behind an aston martin today, reg AMI5 SPY.

Saw a couple of high end German saloons (with pvt plates) between Brierfield and Burnley today being driven by people behaving like complete bellends ... now thats bell-endery of the nth degree and the TW4T epithet fits them perfectly

Re: Personalised Number Plates
I’ve had mine since the early seventies, at that time they were known as cherished numbers and the law was very strict on the way they were shown, no illegal spacing etc, unfortunately for reasons I don’t understand they (the law) appear these days to allow them to be shown in any format people like.

Re: Personalised Number Plates
In the first year of the 'new style' registrations a guy at work bought a very ordinary car without any request for a personalised number. Shortly after delivery he sold the plate for more than the cost of his house.

Re: Personalised Number Plates
Some of the comments on here are laughable. If you want a plate, can afford it, go get one. So what? Do people who live in a terraced house call people who live in a semi? Semi owners slag off detached house owners? Unreal. It’s all relative and the personal choice as to how you spend your disposable income.
And BTW, you can’t put a plate on a car to disguise its age ( ie to make it appear newer ). For example, a 10 yr old car must display its own year plate- 61, or older 11, 60, 10, 59 and so on. You can’t put a 71 plate on the same 10 year old car.

Re: Personalised Number Plates
Whilst you are correct in stating you can't put a newer plate on an older car, disguising the age of a car doesn't automatically mean making it appear newer.Claretitus wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 9:51 amyou can’t put a plate on a car to disguise its age ( ie to make it appear newer ). My mum has a personalised registration on her car, and I've no idea how old her car is. Therefore, it's been disguised.

Yes, you too are correct, but the insinuations earlier in the thread were that you can make a car appear younger. You can’t.

Re: Personalised Number Plates
One of my motorbikes in Portugal had NJ as the letters, my first two names. I've got to admit I liked that. But that was just coincidence. I wouldn't pay for a personalised plate.

Joe Davis used to have CUE 1.
Saw BFC 1 knocking about recently. I’m not a big fan of personalised plates but wouldn’t mind that one.

And I’ve seen 1 BFC on a nice motor. I think one of the two is owned by an ex player of ours, if he still has it.ClaretCliff wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 7:49 pmJoe Davis used to have CUE 1.

Re: Personalised Number Plates
Taken out of context. I was talking about plates with a cars model on it. So yes - you keep the number plate forever, but change cars, it won’t make sense and is stupid. Only works to have a car with model plate if you have the car to keep for many years.
Re: Personalised Number Plates
Have personalised number plates on both our cars and really like them.
Mine has my initials in it and was really cheap (£250), the wife’s spells out her name and was more expensive (about £1000 at the time) but has appreciated in value.

The DVLA need to start replacing all these BO55 ones with CUN7. It would suit the owners SO much better!
