A year ago they must have known their position if they didn’t get promoted.

It didn’t stop them hiring Philip Cocu, signing that Polish lad for millions along with Jordon Ibe on significant money and, oh, Wayne Rooney!!!

They have reaped what they have sown with this, it’s been coming years. Overspending since 2013 and nothing to show for it.
I think the lesson for many owners is don't count your chicken

If i was a prospective bidder to buy Derby, I would be very concerned with the Middlesbrough claim.

Gibson and Morris have reached some sort of agreement, which means the sale of the club can go ahead.

The EFL are asking Derby's administrators for proof of funds, to ensure they can complete the season.
They were given an extension for this, but that expired yesterday I think.

This is a farce. The EFL have gone way beyond being reasonable here, they're now looking spineless.

Just how long will this farce continue?

"New Derby County takeover claims emerge as Rams star makes honest admission

New 'double concern'

Derby County's sale of Kamil Jozwiak will not clear the debt owed to his former club Lech Poznan, according to reports.

Jozwiak joined Charlotte FC less than two years after arriving at the Rams from Poland.

The winger has left Pride Park with only one goal to his name from more than 60 appearances but The Sun report that the fee from Jozwiak's move to the United States of America is more than £1million.

However, it is being claimed that Poznan are owed over £1m still for Jozwiak's Derby transfer back in October 2020 which will need to be settled by whoever buys the club.

The Rams remain in administration after almost six months, and Quantuma, as recently as Friday, have again assured supporters that "discussions with interested parties are ongoing".

Hardly any difference between the promotion places and the relegation places. A good time for EFL to sort things out with Derby as it will make no difference to any other club if they act now.

Hi Paul,

You know a lot about finance if I'm not mistaken.

How long can administration last? I mean is there a set time limit? Six months seems a decent period of time to me. I appreciate that it will depend on the complexity of the specific case. I've read 12 months is relatively frequent with possible six-monthly extensions but surely that would be for big groups with intricate relationships between the companies forming the group, wouldn't it?

Hi ecc, I'm not experienced as an insolvency specialist, so I had to google it.

The Administrator's contract ends automatically after 1 year, though the court can approve extension(s). The Administrator, of course, runs the business for the period of Administration. The company is protected from creditors taking action to recover their debts during the period of administration. This is the primary reason why administration requires court approval to be extended beyond 12 months.

https://www.gov.uk/put-your-company-into-administration

Of course, Derby's Administrator is trying to find a new owner of the club. 12 months is up 22 Sept, which, of course, is after the start of 2022/23 season. I'd imagine EFL will require everything to be sorted before the start of next season, maybe their deadline will be the date they plan to publish next season's fixtures...

Cheers, Paul.

The info must be on here somewhere already but just what are the potential owners going to get for their money?

The latest bid was £30m. The club owes, I believe, just short of that to HMRC and I imagine they will want the whole sum outstanding. Morris owns the ground. This quote comes from Jan:

“The administrators have assurances from both Mel Morris and MSD [Holdings - a company with a charge on the ground] that the stadium can be sold for an agreed option price.”

Not sure what that price would be.

As we saw with Sunderland, Derby are running at a loss although I think not as much as Sunderland were. They still have a sizable wagebill though.

Whoever buys them will need serious money to turn the club round.

For those interested, latest on Derby.

"Derby County takeover update as Quantuma spell out preferred bidder timeline

The Rams have been in administration for six months and are battling to avoid relegation from the Championship

25 MAR 2022

Derby County's administrators have confirmed their timeline for being in a position to name a preferred bidder for the club. The Rams have been in administration for six months and Quantuma are aiming to discuss and consider bids over the weekend with a view to identifying a preferred bidder.

Quantuma will then talk to the EFL next week in a bid to have their choice of preferred bid ratified. The joint administrators issued the following statement on Friday...

"Further to Team Derby’s statement of Monday 21 March and in the interests of continued accurate and transparent reporting, the joint administrators of Derby County Football Club would like to clarify the process we will be undertaking in order to be in a position to publicly name our preferred bidder.

"Bidders must present offers for the Club in their final format by close of business today. The joint administrators will assess the merits of all bids received over the weekend of 26/27 March and will identify their preferred bidder. This will be the bid which we feel best secures the long term future of the Club.

"Early next week the joint administrators will commence discussions with the EFL. Further to their approval to proceed, we will then be in a position to publicly name the preferred bidder."

The ground is for sale at 20m or high rent.

I think we paid 750k-1m a year rent when we sold our ground for 5m?.

This was mentioned on R4 this morning. It was early, I wasn't really listening to the radio and all I remembered was that some Hollywood guy wanted to be Wayne Rooney's boss. Then I didn't see anything else about it all day. Not mentioned on the BBC Sports report that DC's administrators were going to do something this weekend, (or maybe not, like most w/ends). So, I'd put it in the "I must have been dreaming" category.

Who will win, Derby County or Wrexham in the Hollywood derby, or the Oscars, which I'm told is some time this w/end. ;)

Derby fans are starting to panic now for a couple of reasons.

1- the club could be liquidated in weeks
2- Apparently Mel Morris could resume control of the club, he would pass the fit and proper persons tests they're saying

From what I can gather, Mel secured his MSD loan against Pride Park and that's why he's after so much money for the ground.

MSD have made a further loan to the club to help it through administration- interesting stuff given what the preferred bidder is trying to do re the ground and all the other debt and the fact next season is in League one and increasingly looking like starting on - 15 points

must say I am not surprised by this news

https://twitter.com/EFL_Comms/status/15 ... e2s80qAAAA

why the Administrators are so against Mike Ashley I do not know, he has the cash and the track record of running a club within its means, even help with promotions - so much for the administrators doing their job properly - they have extracted millions from the club in the hugely over extended period they have been there

Simon Jordan is very scathing about how some administrators milk clubs dry under the pretence of trying to sell the club.

Is it not because Ashley has been quoted as saying that he won’t pay the exorbitant Administrators fees they have run up.

Derby County: EFL demands closer involvement in sale of Rams

from BBC Sport:

The EFL now wants to be informed of all discussions between administrators Quantuma and potential bidders.

In a statement, the league said it was "increasingly concerned" the delays presented "a real risk to the integrity of next season's competition", with the EFL fixtures being released in less than a fortnight.

EFL chief executive Trevor Birch said Derby had been given enough time to complete the sale, but "further urgent proactive action" was now needed to "secure the club's future as a continuing member of the EFL".

"Following this latest setback for the club and its fans, it is vitally important that a sale of the club is concluded at the earliest opportunity and we want to ensure that this objective is achieved," he said.

Derby, who were relegated from the Championship last season, have just five first-team players left on their books for the 2022-23 League One campaign.

Despite the transfer window opening on Friday, the club is unable to sign players, nor able to offer fresh deals to those whose contracts are about to expire.

Would they get another points deduction if they're still in administration at the start of the season?

Kirchner has officially withdrawn leaving them completely in the brown stuff.

Terrible for the club and I'd never want them to liquidate and I'm sure they won't... however, a small part of me can't help but feel the schadenfreude because of how obnoxious their fans were back in 2013 & 2015 when moneybags Mel was a local hero.

Hard to imagine a club as big, established and famous as Derby are teetering on the brink. Debt, overspending and poor ownership eventually leads to what Derby are facing.
Sound familiar ?

Hard to imagine a club as big, established and famous as Derby are teetering on the brink. Debt, overspending and poor ownership eventually leads to what Derby are facing.
Sound familiar ?
What an absolute mess this is

Perhaps if Portsmouth had of been wound up a few years ago it would have been the wake up call football needed and Derby would not have happened.

Yeah, sounds like Portsmouth
Sounds like a lot of clubs could be in a world of trouble if Derby go to the wall

There once was a businessman called Chris
Who saw Derby and said "I want this"
But his tweets were quite rash
He couldn't transfer the cash
All along he was taking the p:ss

I wonder if that will make Rooney reconsider his position

As a consequence or just because of the size of Derby?

Would Forest have made the playoffs if you expunged Derby's games? This could be a can of worms

If we don’t go up in the next 2 seasons this could easily be us.

They completed the fixtures. That's finished. Next season has to soon be certain, or they will be doing a Glasgow Rangers.

I know it's a bit callous, but this is the perfect opportunity to nab a couple of players (if we wanted too).
