Thoughts are for those of a cynical nature is that derby where about to have a major pts deduction imposed on them from the epl, making relegation highly likely as a result going into administration, and clearing the debt is the more favoured option, believing that the penalty pts deduction will not accumulate and ano business group owned by Mel Morris i suspect will bid for the new club.

So that's minus 21 points in total and 3 points deduction suspended?

Does anyone know what the lowest points finish is in the championship?
Derby seem determined to hold that record alongside the PL one they still hold...

A year ago they must have known their position if they didn’t get promoted.

It didn’t stop them hiring Philip Cocu, signing that Polish lad for millions along with Jordon Ibe on significant money and, oh, Wayne Rooney!!!

They have reaped what they have sown with this, it’s been coming years. Overspending since 2013 and nothing to show for it.

They behaved like Bolton fans for years, loving having their owner continue to poor money into the club to inflate their league position, constantly finding ways to dodge FFP and stick 2 fingers up to the EFL etc.

Now they're weeping and wailing on social media, but they're ignoring their past attitudes and behaviour, just like Bolton fans.

Some interesting comments on MSD in their statement:

We wish to thank our supporters, staff and especially our creditors who have sought to help through the pandemic while we have worked to find a purchaser. The Club’s owner has provided substantial funding throughout this period, even as the process has been underway since June 2019 to find a purchaser. We are especially grateful to MSD Partners, who have been hugely supportive and have provided additional financial assistance this year, going far beyond the original loan it provided in August 2020.

No sympathy for clubs that overspend for long periods. Remember them taking Shackell off us and Lee Grant as they paid far higher wages.
Rooney is trousering 70k a week as a novice manager.

I’m not sure a few Derby fans opinions is a true refection of their football clubs fan base. Look on here, there’s some great people who post on here. Bit sad if they were called a racist because of what those idiots did with the plane last year.

No. Some fans may have behaved that way, but equally, there will have been plenty who, as on here, offered a word of caution.

We’ve seen people on here (myself included to an extent) lauding the loosening of the purse strings, during the recent transfer window.

Let’s not pretend that our spending, alongside that of the method by which the club has been purchased, could leave us in a perilous position if things don’t work out as we hope.

I’m not putting us in the category of Derby, but we are no different to their fans, being excited by what money and signings may bring.

Every club has its idiots, particularly on social media. The overwhelming majority though are decent, sensible people who do not deserve to see their clubs being shat on from a great height by **** poor management and ownership.

Absolutely no sympathy for the owners but I get no pleasure out of the pain it will cause the majority of supporters. I know how I'd feel if it was the other way round so will refrain from gloating. A minority of their foolish supporters is not reflective of the rest. Every club has those.

I could never bring myself to celebrate any club going into administration or going to the wall. Incredible that some people take pleasure from it. Football is for the fans.

Statements like “their fans behaved badly so they deserve it” are laughable. Did all their fans behave like that, or was it a handful that made some noises you didn’t like?

They all sat by and watched Mel circumvent the FFP rules, there were no protests when the money was being poured into the club and then thrown around in the transfer market and on an unaffordable wage bill which was running at approx 140%
The only reason they made a profit one season was when they sold the ground....

Their attendances have generally averaged in the high 20k's, their ground has a 34k capacity, so they certainly haven't been staying away in protest.

Everyone knew they were living well beyond their means and as a group they've generally not given a toss, just the same as fans at other clubs haven't given a toss during the good times.
Now they're weeping and wailing, regurgitating the same crap we see from fans at other clubs when the house of cards collapses.

The warning signs have been there for a long time, they just chose to ignore them.
They must now deal with the consequences.

I don't want to see a club go out of business, but I'll certainly not spare any sympathy for a fanbase that reveled in a league position that was propped up by the club living beyond its means and offering higher wages than the club could afford to lure players in.

The EFL certainly needs to do something about the state of finances at its member clubs, because Derby isn't the only one running at a massive loss and there will be other clubs getting nervously close to the edge of the precipice.
Another season long Covid lockdown would be devastating in the EFL.

It’s possible it still could in the future, things can go sh1tshaped at any club with mismanagement, generally speaking the fans won’t be to blame some of the decisions made were nothing to do with them.

Got to agree. Fans are sometimes their own worst enemy. Portsmouth the same. Celebrated winning a FA Cup that they couldn’t afford, then played the “it’s not the fans fault” when it all went tits up.
Bolton exactly the same. Spent way above their means, even trying to change the structure of the league to prevent the inevitable implosion when they got relegated or the “free” money ran out.

That’s why I don’t buy into this “I feel sorry for the fans”. They partied all night long thinking it was a free bar. Then sulked when the tab came in!

I always try and think of the genuine football fans in situations like this. They have some absolute bell ends on twitter and on the forums, just like we do, but by and large, the vast majority of Derby County supporters don't deserve the potential loss of the team they support

As fans, we just want to see our teams win and we trust the people that run the club deliver results while running the club responsibly.

I bloody love football, because there are clubs, just like the one I support all over the world, even in Blackburn and Preston and I wouldn’t want to see them go into administration because I know their fans love it too.

What tosh. What were Portsmouth fans supposed to do, not go to Wembley or boo the team for winning an FA cup? What's all this "they" chat to represent 10s of thousands of supporters. See it all the time on here, "hate (insert club) fans, 'they're' a bunch of wan*ers" or suchlike. What, all 25,000 of them? Remember when we spent above our means and just about got away with it? Don't remember anyone demonstrating outside the club to stop us spending money. I guarantee you wouldn't get many complaints if we started buying 30 million pound players in the summer either. Football supporters, and people generally, are pretty equal beasts. They love to see their team do well, and will turn a blind eye or understandably think their club is being run sustainably. That's when the term "they" works to generalise. We're not special, and other teams supporters aren't especially worse or better. I don't know what it is about football that reduces adults to childlike criticisms of other groups of people.

*Burnley's accession to the top flight for the first time since relegation in 1976 was a winningly romantic tale, but came at a cost – the just-published accounts for the year to this June are, Kilby shudders, a "horror story". They paid £2.3m more in wages than the club even earned, racked up an £11.7m loss, enormous for the Championship, and loans from Kilby and his fellow directors added up to around £9m. Had Burnley, who finished fifth, not beaten third-placed Sheffield United 1-0 in the play-off final, Owen Coyle's smart footballing side would have been broken up, and more loans required from the directors as ballast."

Don't remember anyone on the old forum saying we shouldn't be celebrating our playoff win because we couldn't afford to be there.

While this may be true in relation to the club and it's running of it, the sweeping generalisations about not giving a toss or the points about staying away as a mark of protest seem odd to me.

Delighted Derby as a club are getting what they deserve, disappointed for their fans. I live and worked with a few and they are adecent bunch.
Buying Louie Sibley would be a masterstroke. Give him a couple of years under Dyche and he will become a top, top player.

The problem is that with TV coverage and the money it earns the clubs is that the game has grown bigger than the fans. Current transfer fees and wages are totally unsustainable for most clubs in the long term. Football is now all about investors, money and TV coverage. This will happen to many more teams in the future and unfortunately to the detriment of the game we all love.

If were all tarnishing all fans with the same brush, is there a more bitter bunch than Burnley fans? Plenty still not over Owen Coyle, and some still not over what a few fans said nearly 10 years ago. Y’know the likes of Derby, QPR, Middlesborough, Karanka. Weird bunch.

Its a sad situation for a great football club but Leicester have shown that admin needn't be the end but can be the beginning of a great journey back to the top.

Hopefully in the long run Derby benefit from admin and we see them again in the top flight challenging for trophy's and European glory days

It is quite funny especially when the fans wouldn’t even have known.

Oh they knew, they made claims that Mel had the EFL on strings.

The average working class fan who works all week & goes to football don’t usually get themselves in boardroom politics, perhaps a small number were suspicious the club were spending money it didn’t have they could have closed ranks & got the rest of them onboard waging a crusade

Ok, we can use the example of Utd fans not being happy with the way the takeover was financed etc so they went off and formed a new club to follow instead, FC United of Manchester.

Fans have a voice they can use if they wish.

When Rovers were taken over their fans were gloating about how they'd then be returned to their rightful position at the top of the PL, then when it became clear it wasn't going as they hoped, they started protesting and I'm pretty sure there wasn't much sympathy on here for them.

It would appear it's fine to revel in the collapse of Rovers, or even Bolton, but not when it's Derby when all 3 have enjoyed an inflated league position due to their owners?

There’s another club I use to admire, Manchester City. But they and their fans have become one of the worst in the country. They’ve circumnavigated FFP for years now. They’ve dodged inquires by doing nothing. Their fans even saying if uefa continue to go after them, they’ll just throw money after money at lawyers just to stall until uefa are bankrupt, and their fans just lap it up, so yes, I’ll criticise other (groups of people) clubs supporters when in my opinion I feel it warranted.

Bolton and Blackburn were undoubtedly kept in unrealistic inflated positions but Derby havent been in the Premier League for 13 years
