Any parking tips for Burnley Town Centre?

Post by Awayfromburnley » Sat Sep 18, 2021 1:01 pm

Has anyone got any tips where to park today (vs Arsenal).

Is parking still free after 3pm in council car parks? If so when I arrive at 2pm do I just pay for 1 HR?

Don't park in Asda

Just check the signage on any road side parking, there are plenty of spots.

You can park on Albert Street or any of the small streets off it, and you’re right by the turf

All the car parks in town are pretty cheap, really. I usually park on old Thompson Centre car park or any of the ones near the police station if that’s filled up.

Always loads of free parking, dont think I've ever paid for parking on a match day, I was home for 17:06 yesterday which to say I stayed until the final whistle must be a record.

The roads seemed extreamely quiet, not sure if the reduced crowds and more people opting to walk due to the weather helped.

Will see what it's like in the coming games, but so far so good.

People pay thousands of pounds for their motors, and then hate the idea of having to spend a couple of quid to park up in a town centre on a Saturday afternoon.

We found it much quieter yesterday. We usually hit the very slow moving Centenary Way but it was fine yesterday.

Weekdays and Saturdays, most council run Burnley car parks are

1 Hour = £1
1-2 hours £1.60
2-3 hours £2.10

Arrive at 2-2:15 at the Library car park and you've plenty of time get to the Turf / Pub for a pint before

Burnley council run Car Parks free on a Sunday or a Bank Holiday.

Or how about going straight to the ground so you will get in on time?

That's probably helped by the coronavirus testing site opposite the bus station taking up most of the car park.

Could be, hadn’t thought of that. Will see how things go next few games.

Got up the dual carriageway past Tesco, almost to the top. No hold up. Usually blocked most of the way down.

Leaving up Eastern Ave has been quicker this season. The concourse in JHU is quieter. I think it is all a product of fewer people going to the match.

I park on Springfield Bank so a 5 minute walk after the game. I was home for 5.15 yesterday in Padiham. I came back into town with the mrs and the traffic leaving town was very busy. Long queues up Westgate and Centenary Way was backed down to Tescos. Had to chuckle.

The key is avoiding Centenary Way and Trafalgar St and Westgate.

I go up plumb street onto parliament street and its usually bumper to bumper right up until you get to McDonalds drive through.
However yesterday, I was straight up plumb street no traffic, and only really hit it on the roundabout on top of centenary way, but again only a minute or so wait whilst the traffic joined.

Yep, I'm straight up plumb street onto parliament street it's the quickest way generally, but yesterday was absolutely rapid.
Any quicker and I'd have been home for the full classified results check from Graham Alexander Gordon 🤣

Whilst cheap nearby parking to the ground is available, leaving is a whole different experience.

We are a small town with a ground in the centre. Therefore, access by road, rail and all other services are not ideal.

But it's home.

Over the last few seasons it is plainly obvious that a capacity of 25,000 is at the upper end of the scale. Yesterday, there were loads of spare seats nearby.

A move to a cheap, purpose built ground next to the M65 would be a huge nail in our coffin.

Stay in town. Keep our heritage.

Up the Clarets.

Whilst i sort of agree you cannot discount the uplift in interest a new ground would generate. Better facilities..a new fan experience etc Seen it at other clubs. It could work either way and as such would be risky.
