Ben Mee: England has always been my aim...

Post by Paul Waine » Sat Sep 18, 2021 1:09 pm

This is a good read...

Ben Mee: England has always been my aim but Burnley don’t play the Gareth Southgate way
The defender talks to Alyson Rudd about missing out on international call, courage of his baby daughter and being a modern captain

Alyson Rudd, Saturday September 18 2021, 12.01am, The Times

Maybe someone can post the full text. If not, I'll see if I can find time later.

Congratulations, Ben Mee on 200 Premier League games foe Burnley.

Said it before and I’ll say it again - I wouldn’t swap him or Tarkowski for Tyrone Mings, who seems to make a mistake every single week.

Disagree, Mee makes plenty and Im not having a go.

I’d not swop him for Mings but if Mee is playing for England it means we've no top centre half’s

Exactly. The way people go on its like Mee and Tark never make mistakes. Need to take off the claret tinted specs.

Yes, Mee and Tarkowski make mistakes but nowhere near the amount that Mings seems to make yet he still gets picked for England time after time.

Great signing for us, better defenders than him were never picked for England, inc Bruce who was Utd Captain at the time.

Southgate is in the building today, so a chance for the likes of McNeil, Pope & Tarks to impress him before the next England squad is named.

Ben is already too old for a first cap under GS.
He’s said if two players are of the same standard he will always go with the younger option.

Talking about Mee and England in the same breath is nonsense.

Looking at White and Ramsdale, I imagine.

Yes they'll both be on his radar no doubt, Ramsdale impressed, White maybe not so much.
