Drop Dwight?

Am I the only one who thinks that Dwight deserves a rest?
Hes tiring way too early in the game nowadays - the Team we ended with should be the team we start with. But I personally think Dwight should be coming on as an impact player at 55-60mins.

Fair play to Dyche making changes at 50 odd minutes today, Cornet and Vydra actually offered something!

Nah.

Dwight offers something.

Vydra and Jay were slightly above gash.

Maybe a knee jerk from today's performance, looked decent at Everton, but today a bit lack lustre and gets very frustrated with Taylor

I would sooner drop any of our non existant midfield and play McNeil in midfield.

Be interesting to see who starts WR next Prem game

Dwight is playing reasonably well so far this season but whether he can adapt to wide right is something we will have to wait to see

Obviously something needs to change.. 451 would be interesting, but we dont exactly have buckets of pace up front!

I really hope we can get out of this rut!

Lazy at times when others were putting a real shift in. Final ball and corners were very poor too.

You know I'm happy we're trying something new at the corners, but Westwoods delivery has been so strong over the years. Arguably it's the only part of our game that's not needed tinkering with!

Dont quite understand the wall for Ode's goal, some jumping some not? If only some are jumping, put the jumpers on the left edge

Looked tired towards the end of the game. The problem isn’t there though, central midfield and our front two have been really poor.

I thought he played well today, I do like him on the right hand side. We need way better delivery from the fullbacks imo

As I’ve said before, play Dwight through the middle, just off wood… In the ‘Hendrick position’. JBG right, Cornet left in a 4-4-1-1. Barnes to drop out. It would strengthen us and make us far more balanced.

I’m not a fan of Brownhill, so far. However, he did improve after Cornet and Vydra came on.

I’d prefer Cork to be starting but in all honesty, I think all three are much of a muchness. It’s a key area and one that really needs to be improved.

Now this is what I would love to see!
Barnes to come on late and cause a bit of mischief was always my preference.

Now that Cornet has "got in" I would for Leicester go almost a 433 with all 3 CMS in midfield and Cornet Wood McNeil up front. Obviously Cornet and McNeil to do some tracking and slotting in to a 5 man midfield. Then mix it up if we have to with Vydra coming on for the weakest CM, and then going 442. Its a MUST NOT LOSE game

I would definitely rest him against Rochdale, (he looked quite tired second half today to me), but no one else much on here seems to agree.

I'm more concerned about Westwood's lack of form, seems off his normal standard so far this season, not by much but that makes a big difference to us.

Dwight wasn't at his best today, but he's won MOTM in our last 3 games, so he's entitled to a below par game, the lad is only human after all.

Are we the only club left in the PL which has a first eleven?
You don't need to "drop" players in what is increasingly a squad game. It's rotation, except SD doesn't do it.

Thought he had a poor game by his standards but did put alot of balls into the box late on....trouble Is wood was off by then and might have buried the Jrod header but who knows

Tarkowski is our best player. Dwight is good but today his passing in the second half particularly was poor. He and Westwood. Our second half showing was better. We actually tried to play through the middle. Dwight might be better behind Wood. Play him there bring in Cork with Brownhill and Westwood and let Brownhill.attack more

I think we all; know Dwight has been over-worked since he came into the 1st team.

Dwight is by far the best player at the club. It would be criminal to drop him.

I mean obviously dropping him would be incredibly stupid, but it's a fair point that he looked knackered with about 10 minutes left today when we really needed that final push. The second half was pretty end to end though and we really pushed hard for an equaliser for about 30 mins with a very high intensity so I can understand his fatigue. One frustration I do have is his unwillingness to run behind the defence into space when Taylor has the ball.

I agree with Jdrobbo that it would be interesting to see him play behind Wood in a 4-4-1-1, although the eleven that finished the game today should probably start against Leicester.

My mistake, I meant the eleven on the pitch before Jay's introduction. Valid case to bring Cork in for Brownhill though, although he showed his qualities more in the second half when the midfielders were told to press the ball high.

I thought Brownhill was absolutely excellent second half today. Seemed to be everywhere ,won/intercepted countless balls and drove forward well too. Only criticism is I want him to shoot more..maybe I'm still clinging to that wonder goal he scored at Millwall.

Well if Dyche let him loose more, meaning pushing forward more, you might see it.

No. Bring Cork in together with Westwood and Brownhill. Play Dwight behind Wood. That would see an improvement.

Our problem.is we buy SOME players because they are good in a position and change them which applies to Brownhill.

Mad idea.

Our problem is he's both our best wide player but also our best technician full stop. In Cork's absence he's our best player at retaining the ball under pressure and building play through phases.

As JDR says, we need to get him on the ball more and that means playing him centrally with Cornet and JBG either side. Currently he looks to me to be reacting to the shortcomings of others by getting frustrated at his inability to influence the game from out wide and trying too hard when the ball does come to him, because he's not getting it enough.

As much as his passing was poor (and it was rank bad), the thought of dropping McNeil has to be up there with thinking about Ann Widdecombe and Diane Abbott having a lesbian session.

Said on the other thread it's because of pressing, Dyche has clearly decides that's what he wants to be the key trait of this version of Burnley.

My view is that if we play McNeil as a third central player, that might help restore a balance which is currently slightly out. He does the ugly stuff to play centrally and apart from being our best wide player currently, he's also our best player at holding the ball and moving it on in tricky spaces - doing what Odegaard did for arsenal yesterday. It's an ask of a young player but I think it might help him feel on control of the game- I thought he started well yesterday but got frustrated by the limitations of the supply to him and started trying too hard to do too much- when those ambitious passes didn't come off, his head went down. The best way to correct those supply issues us to put him in charge of it.
