Pope 6
Lowton 7
Tarkowski 8
Mee 7
Taylor 7
JBG 6
Brownhill 7...anonymous first half but the best I've seen him second half when he was a big factor in our dominating territory
Westwood 5 ..I'm really annoyed with him for the foul for the free kick. Not hindsight as said it as soon as he did it. Hugely dangerous position.
McNeil ...6 always some classy moment s but his crossing was largely into the wrong areas today
Barnes 4
Wood 7...I think he does a generally tough job pretty well. great persistence to create the penalty opportunity for Vydra.

Cornet 7.5 ...some really good touches and looks quality. Thought he should have done better with his big chance as he hit it at a comfortable height and straight at Ramsdale
Vydra 7...definitely added more threat

Tentative team playing below its best beats inferior tentative team playing below its best.

Pope- 5 - relatively untroubled but his distribution put us under pressure more than once, oist obviously forbthd goal - and i think he'll be disappointed with his positioning for the goal too.

Lowton - 6 - generally ok but without ever really delivering a telling pass or delivery.

Taylor- 6 - much like Lowton.

Tarkowski- 8 - our best player on the day, not only as a consulate defender, but our best distributor too.

Mee- 7 - steady enough.

Westwood - 6 - no problem with the foul for the goal but he and Brownhill have to look at how the space came to exist in front of the centre backs in the first place. No lack of endeavour but those gaps are a recurring problem and the forward passing is too often rushed, forced or just a percentage punt.

Brownhill- 5 - much like Westwood except untidier. I think he's good enough technically but like Westwood it's composure he lacks and there were too many wrong options today.

JBG - 6 - he kept the ball neatly enough but his attacking play lacked a bit of conviction.

McNeil - 6 - showed his class in at times in the first half but got frustrated with the shortcomings of others and then ultimately himself as he tried to do more and more on his own without success, not helped by an unfamiliar role on the right. By the end his head had gone.

Barnes- 5 - did ok in the first 20 minutes, but then the entire game plan to that point was geared towards his form of bustling play and so we ended up limiting others in order to play to his strengths. After he'd been booked, his effectiveness wained.

Wood - 6 - ok and provided a more rounded focal point than Barnes, but it was all a bit tentative.

Vydra - 6 - added a bit of initiative to our attacking play even if the quality was a bit hit and miss.

Cornet - 7 - did ok. Showed a fine touch, a but of dynamism and the sort of strength you need in the premier league. But missed a golden chance to equalise, and we probably needed him to hold his width more than he did, particularly with Dwight drifting from the right.

Jay- strange sub and too passive.

It wasn't a bad performance but in some respects that is the more worrying. Pretty much everyone was ok. But our play was too often too predictable and too laboured. Vydra is an upgrade on Barnes - whose continued inclusion is a source of wonder- but even with him in, the lack of composure on the ball within our forward and central midfield ranks is a real cause for concern. It's great being high energy, but at our best we've mixed it with street smart control of the football and it's not obvious that with Cork out we have that in our locker. The quick forward pass has a time and a place - but too often it was the default option because it was easy, rather than taking the time to probe.

Arsenal were bang average today but they weren't really stretched.

Pope 6 - a few dodgy kicks but some good smothering saves, no chance with goal really
Lowton 6 - no creativity again, beavers away but we need Roberts
Tarkowski 9 - imperious, Aubameyang didn’t get a kick, don’t underestimate that
Mee 8 - also solid
Taylor 7 - got forward well a few times but his shocking assist rate remains a concern
Guðmundsson 6 - some good link play but only in game fleetingly
Brownhill 7 - best game for a while but helped by Arsenal defensive mids sitting deep
Westwood 6 - distribution poor incl set pieces but some good late setup play
McNeil 6 - one wonders if his switch to the right will hinder him
Barnes 7 - our most effective attacker, hustled some half chances which was more than his mates
Wood 5 - below par, looks still burnt out after Japan

Cornet 7 - effervescent, great fast feet, some good quick passes set us going in the final 3rd, drifts into dangerous areas, I just hope that doesn’t get coached out of him
Vydra 6 - lively and unlucky with pen, just needed to touch it a tad away from Ramsdale

Pope 6
Lowton 6
Taylor 7
Tarkowski 8
Mee 8**
Westwood 5
Brownhill 6
Gudmundsson 5
Wood 5
Barnes 4
McNeill 7

Vydra 7
Cornet 8
Rodriguez 5

Worked some good positions today but the delivery was really poor, then when we improved delivery second half, there was no one getting in the box to meet the ball.

Pope 6 (his utterly awful quick kick out led to the free kick/goal and he needs bollo*king for it)
Lowton 6
Tarks 8
Mee 8
Taylor 7
Brownhill 7
Westwood 6
JBG 6
McNeil 6
Barnes 6
Wood 5

Vyds 7
Cornet 9 (would have been 10 if he'd netted his chance)

We played pretty well overall against what is a very pedestrian Arsenal team these days. (ESL anyone?? Laughs out loud!!) But ultimately we failed to score and for all our pressure, particularly second half, we made very few clear cut chances against a defense "marshalled" by the utterly woeful £50 million Ben White!!! And that kind of sums up Barnes and Wood as our goal threat atm. We actually put in some very decent crosses for a change, but for reasons I couldn't fathom we seemed to have barely anyone in the box to capitalise. Cornet was excellent and it was good to see a sub made early and it actually make a difference. We can count ourselves a tad unlucky to have only 1 point so far when we haven't played badly in any game, but we really have to get scoring and winning soon or we're in deep sh*t, unlucky or not.

Pope 5 messed up his wall placement
No - it went just over the wall.
3 players on right jumped
3 players on left didn't. (Pope can't control that)
It appears that if all 6 had jumped in sync then it would have hit the wall.
It was also a very good free-kick.

For me the placing of the wall was wrong relative to where he was standing (too far to his left).

At least we can agree it was a good free kick

He appeared fairly central to me, and the free kick was very central. But irrespective, I doubt whether he would have had time to see and save that no matter where he'd been stood. His only chance was that it hit the non-jumping "wall".

Did anyone else notice...our wall looked more than 10 yards back?
Arsenal moved the ball back from the position of the foul!

Looking at the replay......it was far too easy to get the ball over that wall.

To my eyes Barnes looked better today than he has all season.

But I can't award him, or indeed any of them points as my eyes were elsewhere during the match and for both showings of match of the day; that definitely helps with regard to Ash the bash though, just look away at the appropriate moments and remember how he used to do it for us.
