Sound of Silence
I have said for years that this is possibly the greatest song ever written and apologies if someone has mentioned this before but going through You Tube I have just watched the version by Disturbed and I am still shocked by how unbelievably good this version is. Stunning. Again apologies if it has been mentioned.

Hiya Ian,havnt seen you on here for a while hope your keeping well,it really is difficult to cover a song as beautiful as Simon & Garfunkel's but I think Disturbed have made this beautiful song even better than the original it's been mentioned in covers threads before,I think IMO Disturbed's cover of it is in the top 5 of covers of all timehouseboy wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 12:56 amI have said for years that this is possibly the greatest song ever written and apologies if someone has mentioned this before but going through You Tube I have just watched the version by Disturbed and I am still shocked by how unbelievably good this version is. Someone sent me a link to that a couple of years or so ago.houseboy wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 12:56 amI have said for years that this is possibly the greatest song ever written and apologies if someone has mentioned this before but going through You Tube I have just watched the version by Disturbed and I am still shocked by how unbelievably good this version is. It's probably one of the greatest covers of one of the greatest songs of all time.
The rawness, strength and emotion he conveys are extraordinary.

I don’t get the love for that cover, it sounds bloody awful to me. The original is a masterpiece

There's a live recording of Disturbed with another singer called Myles Kennedy and it's pretty good.

It certainly is stunning....lots of great music out there if you just search a little.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 12:17 pmI'd never have known about this but for you posting the link a while ago. It's stunning.
Re: Sound of Silence
Just listened to this version by Disturbed and I’ve got to say that I can’t see what the fuss is about. I’m really not trying to do an impersonation of one of our more annoying trolls by posting just to get an adverse reaction, but that version IMO was average at best. OK it ended with a crescendo with a Luluesque growl in the voice, but nothing specialhouseboy wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 12:56 amI have said for years that this is possibly the greatest song ever written and apologies if someone has mentioned this before but going through You Tube I have just watched the version by Disturbed and I am still shocked by how unbelievably good this version is. That’s a nice version Steve bud. I think sometimes you have to try very hard to ruin a good song and this is one of the best.Steve1956 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 11:29 amPosted this before, but this is also a brilliant cover of the Sound of Silence

I will always prefer the original I think but these are two great covers. Paul Simon is one of the greatest songwriters of all time in my opinion and this is arguably his best.
For what it’s worth for those who don’t know it try Poem on an Underground Wall. Very short but the imagery is fabulous.

Couldn't get past the ridiculous fashion & haircut on this one....
I don't love either cover but love the original.
