No PL attendances are given in The Times today. Is it a new PL policy not to give them?

I’m though I saw a figure of 18,665 doing the rounds, but I’m not sure if it’s accurate or not?

The BBC results website usually includes attendance, but I noticed earlier that was missing from yesterday. It's definitely weird.

According to the official Burnley site, season ticket holders can only buy one ticket due to Covid protocols. This could be a big reason for lower attendances.

As for the original question, I don't know, but it's a bit odd.

There would have been a few hundred less on the game yesterday (myself included) due to the Pendle Pub Walk. I reckon there will have been about 3000 folk on the walk all raising money for a very worthy cause :-)

I think the long term problem for Burnley will be attracting a younger audience. I imagine through Covid a lot of our elderly fans probably don’t feel comfortable coming back.

Maybe it’s a new ruling as some have said. Perhaps it is as has been mentioned the ‘best league in the world’ is losing a little of its popularity. COVID, the obsession with money, the cheating and diving, any one or all of these things could be factors if attendances are dwindling. Maybe the shine is rubbing off.

This seasons PL has been excellent so far. Can imagine it will improve attendance figures if anything. It would be interesting to know the ages of people on the turf.

If you are worried about Covid you shouldn’t be going. I hardly saw anyone with a mask on this time. Less so than the last game.there’s no distancing whatsoever. I don’t go on the concourse at half time now. People think it’s just gone away but need to look at the worldometer tables. Think this will out old timers off along with the no pay on the gates. Aside from this I think people have got used to not going, found other things to do and the football isn’t exactly enticing. We don’t win or score goals. I’m struggling to keep my lad interested.

I don’t think the season ticket farce has helped. A lot didn’t know whether they were coming or going with it.

Then when it came to match days the prices have gone up substantially in some areas. It’s not just supporters coming in though, they were still appealing for sponsors for yesterday’s game on Friday.

Attendances are down generally, even at the really big clubs.

I’d say there’s a variety of reasons - covid fear/uncertainty, broken routines, availability of illegal streams, VAR apathy, etc.

For us, last years league position & results can’t help.

It will come back but the PL generally need to take notice and make sure the product is top drawer.

I think in other countries they don’t make a big thing of attendances. I follow a good deal of South American football, particularly Argentina, and they have never published attendances. You have to dig deep on Google to find them and even then it’s usually averages, not game figures. I believe in this country many fans use attendances to bolster their false claims of being a ‘big club’. West Ham come to mind, figures would suggest big club but nothing in their history supports that claim.

A friend of mine made a last minute decision to take his kids into the game. He was unable to get the 3 tickets as only he has a clarets number

I’m not sure if he bothered in the end

Something very badly wrong when people who want to attend and give their money to the club are unable to do so due to the complexities of the ticketing website

Tony , apart from the obvious removal of 5 Directors when the takeover happened, who else might we expect to see in the Directors box who isnt in there at present ?

I think it may be to do with the apathy now felt towards the paying spectator in the EPL. It's almost like they've decided the game doesn't need us. The game survived through lockdown with no fans, and most revenue is from TV and sponsorship. The club's at the top level are simply not interested in attendances anymore. We aren't needed.

I’m not sure but it used to be full - I’m assuming some of the corporate guests sat in there.

Gareth Southgate was in there (between Alan Pace & Mike Smith) and Peter Reid was behind them as was Dave Baldwin. But there weren’t a lot of people in there.

So you’d think ticket prices would get cheaper as the money it brings in is irrelevant in the premier league.

Yes I noticed that and just to get my gripe in I also noticed in the Longside Lower where we’ve been kicked out of our seats for these extra corporate ones there was more empty ones than occupied. Think I’ll write to Mr Pace and ask for my seats back :(

Interesting take on the issue, and it may carry some merit, however that's a dangerous game to play, particularly for clubs where relegation is a real possibility, and quite clearly Burnley fall into that category, so IF the club does share this view, then in the event of relegation they could be in for a nasty shock.

And I can't imagine the broadcasters being too happy at banks of empty seats being screened around the globe, surely that doesn't present their product in the best light, and like it or not that's what the PL has now become a product.
