Burnley to wear Alzheimer's Society strip after players' deaths

Hope it's OK to post this, I just came across the story well browsing, a great gesture from the club for a deserving cause.

And it's shocking that 6 of our 1960 heroes have succumbed to this dreadful illness.

Not really sure about the link between the disease and the game. Some of those players may have succumbed to it anyway, but still a very worthy cause.

Problem is, I dislike the 3rd kit intensely. It looks like an old Arsenal away kit.

An appropriate action by the club, well done.
So sad that 6 of the 59/60 championship winning side succumbed to dementia, wet heavy balls, heavy pitches?

You’ve not read the link then

It’s the home shirt for tomorrow’s game

Very positive move by the club and shows there are morals in football and clubs can do the right thing.

Nowt to do with the 3rd kit GD ... thats already donating to Alzheimers ... its a "one off" home kit with "Alzheimers Society" on instead of the Sponsors logo ...

Seconded. Like so many, I have lived through this terrible disease with my dad back in the 1980s.

Certainly does. Usually when they do the “one off” shirts it’s an auction which IMO excludes a great number of supporters

A £5 raffle ticket allows more people to take part
“We will also be creating a raffle for the match-worn shirts and warmup t-shirts following the game with all money raised from the £5 raffle ticket going to support Alzheimer’s Society.

"We’re hopeful that through the third kit sales and the raffle, we will be able to raise a significant sum for the charity, supporting the invaluable work they do for those living with dementia.”

I hope I've got this right: the sponsor's name on the 1st kit will be replaced by Alzheimer's Society for tomorrow's game v Rochdale; SpreadEx are donating their rights to this space to Alzheimer's Society; in addition the club will donate £5 for every 3rd kit sale to the Alzheimer's Society. (Not clear if this is limited to shirts sold in a set time period, maybe month of September).

I'm guessing that the auction of kits (based on mention above) will be the 1st kit with Alzheimer's Society across the chest.

This is all a great gesture by the club.

I think the raffle idea is much better because it can include more people and not see the shirts go to the same people every time

But if its a raffle and 1st prize is a match worn shirt. Is it just 1 shirt that is raffled? What about the other 16/17?

I’ve said this many times before when it’s been the on-off shirts such as the “poppy shirts”

They would raise just as much if not more with more people entering a raffle than a “select few” bidding hundreds

Previously all the squad have had a “one off” shirt regardless of if they were in the Matchday squad or not

Supporters then had the opportunity to bid on the players shirt they wanted.

I’m assuming all squad will have one and they will draw 25 1st place and the winners choose in that order

Interesting to know whether more money would be raised by auctioning all match day shirts or be a raffle.

Let's say 20 (including 9 subs) match day shirts are auctioned at £100 each, that raises £2,000.

Similarly, 400 raffle tickets at £5 is £2,000.

It only needs the club to sell 1,000+ raffle tickets to raise £5,000. To match that the shirts would each need to achieve £250 at auction.

It's a great cause. I'm happy to buy a few raffle tickets.

The poppy shirts last year raised nearly £6000 via auction, which would mean 1200 £5 tickets need to be sold to match that.

As said the issue with auction you would maybe get 100-200 max people entering

I’m sure many more would enter a raffle at £5

Yes, I know that Boss. I was refering to the 3rd kit which I dislike intensely. So far as I'm aware, the kit for the Rochdale game can't be bought. Maybe they will raffle it off?

So far as I'm aware, I have Boss, and I quote the article.

"Both Burnley and their principal sponsor are committed to handing the charity a £5 donation each from every third kit sold and expect the total to reach a substantial five-figure sum."

I interpret that as the blue third kit, but I suppose it could mean every third kit sold of the one off Rochdale kit.

Yes, I've noticed that Boss and I think it's a good idea. However, it's the blue 3rd shirt that the club and sponsors are donating £5 each for every shirt sold. Hence my original post.

You responded to my original post BEFORE the raffle was even mentioned. Fair enough, I hadn't seen the other posts which said the shirts would be raffled until you pointed it out.

My original post was talking about the blue third kit which the club and sponsors are donating £5 each for sales, so what was wrong with that post?

Absolutely Hipper the evidence is very strong now although I doubt it will be Alzheimers as such but more likely dementia pugilistica or chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
