The players who need game time more than anything.

Hennessey

Bardsley
Collins
Thomas
Pieters

JGB
Cork
Mancini
Cornet

Vydra
J Rod

If all going well, bring on McNeil for Vydra for the last half hour playing 451 with McNeil off the striker.
This is the game to try a new possession based formation.
Maybe bring on Stevens or Roberts if they're ready for 20 mins?

I would try something different:

Hennessy
Bards Tarks Collins Pieter
Brownhill
Cork. McNeil
Vydra Jayrod. Cornet

Tell them to attack at will.

No point risking Cornet. We know what happens when we play lower league teams. And I wouldn't play McNeil either.

Cornet needs minutes, take him off after 60 mins if necessary. Try McNeil in left midfield for a change. Something needs to change.

He does need minutes - just not against a rough tackling lower league side.

Not 100% certain who's fit, but here goes.

Hennessey
Bards Collins Long (or Thomas) if Kev isn't fit Pieters
JBG Cork Stephens (if fit) Cornet (for the 1st hour)
Vydra Jay

That XI should be good enough to see off Rochdale, and although it's only the cup, a win would be welcome.

He’s not made of glass, he’s a professional footballer.

Not sure why posters seem to think Rochdale are tough tackling, they're top of the League Two fair play table with just 7 bookings this season.

Is Roberts ready to play yet? If so I’d go

Hennessy
Bardsley Collins Thomas Pieters
Roberts Cork Mancini Lennon
Richardson Rodriguez

With cornet, Vydra, Wood, McNeil available to win it if required.

With our larger squad we can win this with 6 or 7 changes.
With Roberts, Richardson and long out I’ll go for

Hen
Bards Collins Thomas Pieters
Lennon Cork Mancini Cornet (swap with DM or JBG after 60)
Jay rod Barnes

Surely we have to try to get a home win, regardless of the competition?

That is something we need to change, and as soon as possible

We need a win, this team has forgot how to win.

We have out of form players, they need game time to play themselves into form.

Hennessy
Bardsley Collins Long ( Mee if Long unfit ) Pieters
Lennon Cork Mancini Cornet ( 60 mins then JBG )
Vydra ( 65 mins for Barnes ) Jay ( deserves a chance )

Shame Richardson and Stephen's are out as I'd have them starting

Should run out comfortable winners

I would be going 451, playing a first choice midfield and striker - just to see how it works to do that, with Cornet's arrival and one of him OR McNeil to play behind the front man

4-5-1 against Rochdale? I could understand away to one of the top teams, but to be more defensive-minded against Rochdale, not for me.

ok, let me restate it - 4231, but against Rochdale, per the point you make, I thought it was a bit obvious. I see it as an ideal opportunity to trial it

Just listened to the presser and no wonder people point to "Dyche Fit", he singled out Cornet twice to be "struggling with the pace" ??? I must have watched a different match, but he does have a point on putting a team out that can beat Rochdale, so i dont see many First team players on this 1 as opposed to what we had seen against Newcastle.

Try another formation...

Constantly getting played through our midfield with a 4 4 2

Maybe 3 at back
2 wide FBs
1 Sitting MF (Cork)Paired with one higher up (eg Brownhill)
A flexible 3 forwards -Jay - Wood - Vyds

I think there was a brief moment where Cornet seemed to signal, not me, as in he didn’t want the ball and needed to get his 2nd wind.
That said he seemed to be involved in everything from the moment that he came on, from attacking to winning the ball back and getting into the box, all a bit frantic and I think it was a little more frantic than he was expecting.

I think it was more likely he was saying he didn’t want the ball because he was being marked. That said, his fitness can clearly improve but what he did add in half an hour was very promising - especially if he wasn’t fit.

I've never understood bringing your best players on late if you aren't winning. I would always play a strong team to start with and get a lead, then take my best players off. How many games have teams like Man U lost through starting with weak teams?

True but IMO we can win it without them. I’m saying we should have them available in order to get a goal if needed.
