No home fans in three blocks of cricket field stand tonight

Post by ClaretTony » Tue Sep 21, 2021 11:22 am

Following the crowd issues in theCricket Field Stand during the Burnley v Arsenal match, on Saturday September 18, Burnley FC will be requesting for all supporters who have purchased tickets in the following areas to relocate for the Burnley v Rochdale Carabao Cup match.

Supporters who have purchased tickets in the Cricket Field Stand, Blocks 5, 13 & 21 will be provided with alternative seating once they have entered the stadium via the turnstiles.

This has unfortunately been actioned following talks with relevant safety stakeholders, due to a minority of supporters being involved in the crowd trouble at the Arsenal game.

It seems harsh for the finger of blame to be pointed purely at the Burnley fans and a good proportion of those involved came from other areas of the stand

Makes sense.
I wonder what they’ll do for League games as presumably there are a number of season ticket holders in there.
Reduced capacity in the away end?

As someone who has an ST in that stand (but not in those particular blocks) I can predict exactly how this is going to go, the stewards will just say sit in any empty seat, people will do so and then someone will turn up who's bought a seat which has now been occupied by someone who has been moved and that in itself will cause arguments. Has Burnley written absolutely all over it.

I don't think anyone is blaming anyone - from what I can see they are just closing three blocks to help prevent any re-occurence of what happened.

As I saw in another thread, the club is blaming the fans for its own failings re. a lack of stewards and police. In saying that there were obviously a few idiots who should be dealt with, but I'm sure this is possible with the high tech cameras all football grounds have these days. Blanket punishments are an extremely lazy way of going about things by the club.

The club has had three days to respond, bit harsh to expect a perfect solution. Just a minority ruining it for everyone, nothing new.

What did the club expect when they have basically no segregation and opposition fans sitting next to each other?

I've not seen the club blame anyone. All I've seen is them reporting that they are investigating which was followed by this morning's closing of three blocks which most likely has been forced on them by the SAG.

Considering the number of tickets sold tonight asking the few that may be sat in those 3 blocks to move 1 block along isn't really a hardship to moan at. They have had less than 3 days since the end of the game to sort something, what did you really expect them to do ?

Probably decent behaviour as you get at many grounds where they are next to each other as we've had at Liverpool and Everton and will at Leicester.

As I said in my original post, it will end up with people moving to seats others have bought which will cause arguments in of itself. Understand what you're saying (although I stand by my point of blanket punishments being wrong, and that it's wrong to inconvenience those who've done nothing wrong) but can just see this 'solution' also causing issues.

If it was a league game I would agree but think the chance of anyone being sat in someone else's seat tonight are very slim.

Moving supporters, the vast majority of whom will have had no involvement in Saturday's 'trouble' seems to be accounting blame to me, wrongly in many cases.

It only takes one person being moved to unknowingly go to a purchased seat of someone who will be aggrieved their seat has been taken. I see your point, the stand will be half empty, but I'm sure you know how precious some people seem to get over being in their exact seat.

Not ideal for the club being told just before the game.

Long term the obvious solution is to put up a more substantial fence/wall/barrier.

It's not at all - it's ensuring the area is clear which will be a decision made by the safety authorities.

Bearing in mind that Rochdale have apparently sold out their allocation, then it seems the sensible thing to do.
Having seen the clips on social media and estimate that some of those involved are in the 30-50 years old bracket, you can hardly blame the club for taking these steps.

Well done BFC, there was about 500 tickets that had been sold in that end on Friday, simply making it unreserved seating in the rest of the stand for those who have bought tickets in those 3 blocks is a wise idea and increases the segregation.

It should help bunch up the rest of the fans too rather than people being scattered about.
There were 8 tickets sold in the block I sit in, it has 250 seats in...

Also this is Rochdale's big day out, they've not played us in mearly 30 years, had a bit if a one sided rivalry back in the day, and their tickets got to general sale so could quite easily be a few morons from their support hoping to cause a few issues, and thinking they might get it.

The club are not only looking after their reputation, but also the fans.
Absolute no brainer given the plenty of room still left in that stand to "budge everyone up a block"

Agree, and ban anyone who wears Adidas trainers too.

That should stop anyone throwing punches, bottles or coins.

I agree 100% but with the best will in the world it’s just not practical it only takes 1 person within thousands to spark something that’s what you are dealing with in reality.

Strange how at Anfield you’re next to home fans, Arsenal Chelsea to name but a few and remarkably people manage to refrain from behaving like hormonal teenagers………..

Pretty sure the club can identify those responsible ……

I didn't realise that anybody who wanted to sit in the seat that they had paid for perhaps with people they knew nearby would be considered 'precious '

The club have to pay for any police presence within the club footprint.

This use to include Harry Potts Way on a Matchday, but not sure if that’s still the case.

I can’t recall the last time saw police inside the ground. Maybe the Hamburg “friendly”?

Come to think of it, at which Premier League grounds are there not home fans next to away fans? I think there is every chance there aren't any.

It didn't used to include Harry Potts Way but it does now because from two hours before kick off it becomes part of the footprint.

Of course they want to sit in the seat they have purchased ... but if moved for the reasons given in the CFS stand its understandable ...

But I have to say 3 or 4 times we have arrived to find people in our seats (which we have season tickets for) who object to being asked (politely) to move to their own seat ... have also found it has caused problems at away matches where groups wish to sit together but didn't buy adjacent seats ...

Remember a lot of years ago at Hull City's old ground the Stewards said "sit where you like" obviously not realising the number of fans turning up ... chaos reigned 😂

As someone caught in the middle of the disturbance on Saturday I have the following observations.

The vast majority of the idiots who caused trouble came from outside the already sectioned off part of the stand. There is already a divide there which is gated. The young lad who was operating the gate was easily pushed aside when the idiots wanted to get into the enclosure.

Generally the banter between home fans and away fans is good natured, but more recently there are a handful of protagonists who persists on being overtly abusive and I have reported them personally to the most senior steward I can find to be told "I cant do anything mate" I have given up reporting them now.

There are a handful of idiots who seem to think its a good idea to run towards the barrier when something happens - again the same handful and if these people were removed permanently the issue would go away I'm sure.

It is to my knowledge a season ticket only section, I may be wrong, but I often see different groups entering using what appears to be other persons season tickets. On Saturday one chap got quite abusive towards me because he was insistent that I was in his seat. Obviously I wasn't because I was in mine. He got the row letter wrong and was in the seats in front of me - I know this because he showed me the season card with the seat number on to prove I was in his seat.

The club really needs to take action against the regular perpetrators of the abuse, I am certain they know who they are but there's been no action on it.

I sit in one of the blocks that appears in all the photos of the fighting. We moved there this season after years in the JMU because it now works out cheaper with the kids. There are different people in there every week - which is odd given you have to show your ticket to get through the extra gate to get to that section. It's also populated by a large number of people who spend their entire time goading the opposition fans - some of them don't bother watching the game at all.

It was nasty against Brighton but there was a bigger gap between the fans, presumably because they didn't sell out. It was full against Leeds and kicked off at half time in the same area (fortunately we'd gone downstairs for a brew). On Saturday we could see what was happening and moved before the start of the 2nd half.

I'm beginning to wish I'd stayed where I was.

Also can’t take any bottles up (soft drinks) they now pour it into a plastic glass which interestingly enough doesn’t hold the 500ml so pour it all over the counter.

As regards to tickets it appears you go to sit in your seat and then you’re given a replacement ticket by a steward in a seat not sold in the CFS.

Wonder if the Rochdale massiv will try and take their moment in the sun and try and kick off tonight? Will probably be more entertaining than the football.

Having said that we are playing a fairly attacking line-up

When the CF first opened again to home fans they made the section near the away fans ST holders only. Then they added the other home sections that seemed to be filled with passive Burnley fans, that sat down all game.

Looks like they have let groups of lively supporters in there now.

Might be wise to ask for a move a little bit further into the stand.

"Passive Burnley fans, that sat down all game"? I sit over near the wall and just above the crosswalk from the entrance to the wall and I can't say I have ever seen fans sitting 'passively' anywhere in the CF stand.

Strange how at Anfield you’re next to home fans, Arsenal Chelsea to name but a few and remarkably people manage to refrain from behaving like hormonal teenagers………..

Pretty sure the club can identify those responsible ……
I was amazed how close the Chelsea fans were to Spurs at the weekend, they despise each other

Down the front I had my ST. It was like two sets of fans singing at each other with this new group in between.
