Burnley sign Le Fondre

Post by ClaretTony » Tue Sep 21, 2021 3:47 pm

No, not Adam, who last heard of was playing for Mumbai City.

This is Kian Le Fondre, his second cousin who it looks like we might have signed from Bolton. I think he's 16 but is listed by Bolton as a member of the first team squad,

Plenty of investment and input into our youth at the moment, all very positive.

To be fair last season if you turned up at the Horwich bowl with a pair of boots you stood a chance of getting a game.....

That’s a name to evoke memories. Adam was a name often linked with us as we climbed the leagues. A little bustling forward who got his share of goals, Mainly for Bolton. If he’s a chip off the same block he’ll become a useful signing. Good luck Kian.

Goalscoring midfielder from what I can find. Made the first team bench last season in the EFL Trophy when he was 15 but didn't come on.

Even without the previous owner keeping (mostly) the vault doors closed to fatten up the goose, this is the area we need to be better than most.
A good youth system is the only way a club our size can survive.

Always good to see a young prospect, and if Kian has a career as good or better than Adam he'll be faring well.

And youth development does seem to be an area we're making great strides in over the past few years. Long may that continue.

Do we pay any fees for these players? Or decent wages?

Maybe. Somebody will know.

We've got a gap in our recruitment when it wasn't being done properly so it's a good idea to flex our financial muscle over clubs like Bolton who are in need of money but had better recruitment than us in years gone by.

Don't know the details. It basically the time Howe was here + the remaining contract of the guy he appointed.

Sounds shocking from what I've heard but I know very little beyond that. Others who post here seem very well informed on how unacceptably shambolic it all got.

Ahhh it's a 10 years ahead joke. Yup. Missed that.

No laughing matter though how bad our youth system was allowed to get.

Still, nice how everything turned out since all those years ago.

We will have to pay a compensation fee to Bolton

Would imagine wages are pretty much equal across all the youth team players, only once they sign a professional deal will they start to vary.

In terms of fee it will depend on how long he's been at Bolton. Assuming he's been there a long time the fee we've had to pay would be £109,000* and then there'll be further payments for every 10 first team appearances he makes.

*Category 2 to Category 1 transfers (which Category 2 cannot reject) are £25,000 for every year of development between ages of 12-16 up to a maximum of 5 years plus £3,000 per year between the ages of 9-11 up to a maximum of 3 years.

I think Bolton must be nearly skint if they need to let a prospect like this lad appears to be, for just a 'Training fee'.

Am I right in thinking our Category One academy status allows us to make such signings, and for a set fee as well Tony ?

They can't stop us. A few years back the Premier League teams railroaded this through with threats to withhold the solidarity payments from the Premier League to the Football League if they didn't agree with it.

I doubt Bolton could have done much about it other than to ensure they get the training fee.

It was Marc Iles (Bolton News) who reported they were due a training compensation fee

Think we had a thread about that?
We may have benefitted a little here, but what the PL did there was so wrong.

Didn't know that. Typical bully boy tactics from the PL, who couldn't care less about the lower leagues.
