Post by Goalposts » Tue Sep 21, 2021 5:54 pm

Been reported that reading face a possible 9 point deduction for breach of FFP rules seeking a section 85 agreement within the EPL

Bottom three in Championship could turn out to be the three who have the most points deducted

The current punishments don't seem to be that much of a deterrent, given how many clubs are guilty of this. Perhaps the authorities need to be more severe?

I have a lasting dislike for Reading after they took my money to go and look at a rain soaked pitch.
Fully aware that most people coudn't make it back for the mid-week fixture.

Forgot they'd signed him, another club who have been throwing around cash they can't afford, didn't they splash out £7m for that Hungarian chap recently.

And I'm sure this isn't the 1st time Reading have been in financial difficulties, when are these clubs going to learn to live within their means.

Green light from EFL. 9 Points but if everyone's at it then no-one suffers.

My local club have had a series of dodgy owners since John Madejski and are in serious trouble financially. As I said many times their cm Jon Swift is worth a punt started the season well with 5 goals and several assists already.

Wycombe have suffered already, and they didn't do anything wrong.
The revelation that Derby deliberately fiddled the books last season, just in order to avoid a points deduction, thereby condemning Wycombe to relegation is as bad as anything I've seen in football, even worse than Leeds 10p in the pound.

21pts under those circumstances isn't enough, it should be at least a 2 division relegation, and a rebursment of the millions that this has cost Wycombe.

Agree, need a much stronger deterrent or it will become commonplace, thus reducing its impact in a particular league/season.

It's all a bit of a farce when relegation places are being decided by clubs in breach of FFP and administration etc. The performance of the teams on the pitch is of secondary importance. Are we going to start promoting teams for being run prudently too. This is happening every season now. It seems to me the systems broken.

Why is it a farce?
If their performance levels are improved because they're breaking FFP rules, why shouldn't they be punished as a result?
They're having their league positions inflated at the expense of other clubs.

It's a farce because a league is there to decide the best and worse teams over a full season. There doesn't seem any point if 3 clubs are relegated through points deductions. Half the division have nothing to play for. I'm not saying the offending clubs shouldn't be punished, and I can't think of an alternative. It just seems sad that administration issues are deciding who gets relegated.

Yet it's seemingly fine for a club to cheat and stay up at the expense of someone else...

It is cheating pure and simple ... and you only get away with it if you are as rich as Croesus (or Man City 🙄)

I have a dislike for them too - but it centred on them ripping us off on ticket prices in successive seasons in the mid-2000s. One year they had a reduced price provided you bought them a set number of days before the game but didn't send ours until the day after the cut off. Our ticket office manager stitched them up though because of some offer they hadn't bothered to tell us about.

Perhaps the points deductions should be increased and any that were not used by relegation be carried over into the following season. That would mean the club still has something to play for and continue to try and pick up points, rather than distort their league by "throwing in the towel."
