Giving away sloppy goals

Post by Spijed » Wed Sep 22, 2021 9:29 am

It continued last night, but why are we giving away so many sloppy goals?

We used to be renowned for being so tight at the back. Until we start getting a few clean sheets we'll make life hard for ourselves.

Is it either Cork or Westwood not offering enough protection, or Tarkowski and Mee no longer being quite as good as they once were?

Probably combination of the two but also confidence. Once we get back to our ways I’m sure we’ll start notching them up again.

After his “cameo” in the the holding midfielder role, Dyche may move Lowton to that position when Roberts is fit.

Not helped by casual/sloppy/poor passing from Tarks.

Didn't see last night.

And this might not directly have led to a goal this season but imo there seems to be errors creeping in to Ben mee game more frequently. Short passes, indecisive in tackles, trying to win the ball when is not there to be won. Not having a go at Ben just pointing it out :?

I'm a massive fan but last night was yet ANOTHER terrible display by Tarkowski against lower league opposition. He was poor and never seems to have the right attitude when up against inferior opposition.

Soft defending in centre midfield, no sitting midfielder.
it's a problem with 4-4-2. IMO

Last night Collins and Tarkowski looked like a pairing that hadn’t played together much. Other than that I’m other games it’s uncharacteristic individual errors but the weakness and aged legs in central midfield puts the defence under too much pressure.

Couple of seasons ago didn't we win virtually every game where we scored first? Certainly not the case today. SD often talks about small margins and we definitely seem to have lost an edge somewhere. At the end of last season some people suggested that it was down to the change in shape when playing Vydra but he can't be blamed for what's happened this season.

SD keeps saying that the performances are good but we've definitely lost something defensively.

But that doesn't /shouldn't account for poor passing from Tarks.

Poor pass from Tarks, Westwood wasn't able to get to it quick enough and lost the ball, Tarks was then very slow at trying to recover his position and Collins failed to put a decent tackle in.

Just a collection of issues which I'm sure Dyche and co will go over with the players.

No big deal

Yes he was, including the ref who MIGHT have given a free kick to Cork, but tbh I wasn't sure it was. Tarks rubbishy pass was compounded by Collins being beaten so easily it was embarassing for the goalscoring strike and at least Collins' body language afterwards implied he knew it.

Tarky never looks the same player when he plays left sided centre back.

Probably because he's playing with Kevin Long, or Nathan Collins, neither of who are first team quality at present.

Maybe there is something in that but I'm certain he would play with a much better attitude if he was left sided centre back for a Premier League game. He seems to over-think and over-play when he plays against lower league players instead of just concentrating on doing the basics well.

I was just watching highlights of Jimmy Greaves scoring what looked like in the FA Cup final against us. It was a very similar goal to last night.

Was there such an outcry back then when people scored against us?

Collins looked poor on the attempted tackle.......pass from Tarks was to Cork i think.
