I have to say that over the 90 minutes their number 8 Morley really stood out for me. He held his position well, always available, switched play well, hit long passes and also split our back line on occasions with a couple of sublime passes.

Odoh impressed me with his running and movement. He had our midfield and defenders all over the place at times.

Only 21 years old as well.

We need to step up our scouting of lower league teams
Over the last few years we have lost the knack of talent spotters finding us potential stars.

The number 20 Cashman wasn't bad either ... but whether any of them could step up a few divisions not sure

As said odoh was quick and looked decent. Cashman was tricky as well - a poor mans jack grealish.
Also as has been said Morley is a good young player.
They have a good young side Rochdale. Remember the last time we played a lower league side, some said Ivan Toney was good but most of us thought he was in league 1 so couldn’t be up to much.

I was impressed by Odoh who I would think will end up playing at a higher level. He will need to work on his fitness though as he tired in the second half.

Tidy enough player, but may not have the physical attributes to make it at a high level.

Exactly. They had a few lads aged under 22 who played well against us. If they can play well against a decent side we put out at that age I think they’ll end up playing at a higher level.

exactly, I was disappointed we didn't go for Kwadwo Baah from Rochdale, he joined Watford on a free after impressing for Dale

He’s played three games for them. Had a loan at Ipswich last season.

As much as all the Rochdale team gave 100% as you would expect, I'm sorry to say none were good enough to warrenty a 2nd look. IMO.

Didn't Mathieson move for a Million? Think a Dale fan friend of mine said that, and the money kept them afloat. They also sold Baah to Watford, and Stephen Humphrys to Wigan (I think). Stephen was a stand out talent around Manchester, I think he was related to Ethan Kershaw who was at Burnley for about 10 years.

Absolutely.
But, in terms of a workout for some of our squad, they showed where some need to improve and gave a few a tough enough night.

Certainly our back 4/5 were very jittery first half.

Actually,on reflection, I was quite impressed by the whole team and thought they did very well.
I also thought they were well organised.

I don't think Tarky enjoys being the left side centre-back. Both he and Collins kept trying to cover the same zone for most of the 1st half meaning Pieters had to move inside to hold the line. Cornet wasn't coming far enough back in the first half meaning there was confusion when Pieters needed to drop back outside to cover the wing.

Odoh looks like a dangerous winger. Get him in January and let him work with Lennon who’s of a similar build and the same position. Definitely worth a punt. Tracked back well too. Will no doubt of impressed Dyche

They've had a decent youth set up at Rochdale for a few years now, I think it was 3/4 years ago in the Keith Hill era when they played a game and starting line up and bench were all first team players graduating from the youth set up.
