Starts today.

USA overwhelming favourites on their home turf. Exceptionally tricky course at Whistling Straights remember playing it on the PlayStation and it being ridiculously hard.

Difficult to see where we pick up a point there. The 1st match has got be the one we target.

Plenty of experience on the European side. I think we'll win 15-13

The underdog tag suits Europe, and all the pressure is on the Americans especially on home soil, and although on paper USA look unbeatable, history tells us that you don't win anything on paper.

Get in the hole!

Not watched golf for around 6-7 years, but when I did watch the Ryder Cup it was on the final day, hoping it was going down to the wire.

Great save on the 1st for Europe, coming out with a half after Garcia's wayward tee shot found a bunker.

Garcia/Rahm level up at the 3rd, great reply from Europe.

This “get in the water / bunker” is going to get irritating. Total lack of class as we come to expect.

US up in 2, Europe up in 1, and the other A/S. Tight and tense as expected.

US to win 15-9, but I hope I’m made to eat my words.

Lots of water to find, and a 1,000 bunkers littering the course, that's an insane number, no wonder they keep finding the sand.

Crowds are surprisingly restrained by American standards, however it is only the 1st morning.

Europe up in 2, USA up in 2.

McIlroy & Poulter being blown away by the 2 rookies though.

USA having the better of the early skirmishes, up in 3, Europe up in just 1, the Garcia/Rahm duo going along nicely, but they could do with some assistance from the rest of the European team.

We can already write off the McIlroy & Poulter match, as they're 5 down after 5.

Should be a point for Europe in the Garcia/Rahm match.

And should be a point for USA in the Cantlay/Schauffele match.

USA 1 up in the other 2 matches, and Europe could do with at least halving one of those, if not winning one even.

Johnson & Morikawa strike back immediately for the USA.

1-1, 2 still out on the course, both heading the home sides way.

Jordan Spieth on the 17th. USA lost the hole and match but he stole the show with an 'impossible' shot followed by a downward run that had him scrambling to stop safely

All the problems are in the European camp following that session, the saving grace is 3-1 can be retrieved, and there's loads of golf still to come.

But the Americans have been impressive, particularly their rookies, they aren't overawed by the experience at all.

Garcia/Rahm surely have to play together this afternoon, their partnership worked to perfection, but they can't it win on their own, so others in the European fold will need to step up to the plate.

And the strength in depth which the USA possess is frightening.

Those pairings will mean all 24 players have had action on day 1, makes sense I suppose for both captains to ensure everyone is involved ASAP.

The crowd is getting more raucous I notice as the day progresses.

There are bars at 1,4,5,6,10 and 15 so not surprising and they are winning. They will be a bit quieter later tonight.

Yes I suspected it would increase in volume as the drink started to flow, and the way for Europe to silence them is to get ahead in a few of the matches, that'll soon quieten them down.

Pathetic from deshambles, he's just smashed a drive, and it's hit a spectator, and he didn't even shout a warning.

Europe up in 2, US up in 1, A/S in the other , this is much closer than the morning foursomes. And Europe battling hard to stay in touch, which they'll need to do.

Fleetwood and Hovland going well 2 up after 6.

USA 1 up in 2 matches, and A/S in the McIlroy & Lowry match, Rory playing much better than he did with Poults this morning.

It's fair to say it's not been the best half hour or so for Europe, US up in 2, Europe up in 1, and 1 A/S.

But if Europe can come out of this 2-2, it'll keep them in touch which is vital.

Jon Rahm playing like the world number one, and following up his brilliant display from the foursomes.

Lots of course have local rules to stop this to a point. To make you play the hole as intended.
Or a bank of trees flanking the tee so you can't do this.

But this is America...
I'm half expecting a Wind Mill on some courses.

McIlroy surely can't play tomorrow can he? He's barely hit a decent shot all day, never mind holing any putts.

Yeah, but there is only one person in the world who would even attempt that shot - as much as I dislike him - it was impressive.

Looking grim. Rory not playing well, Poulter and Westwood showing their age. Got to ride Rahm as long and we can - and get Sergio back out there!

Yep.
But some tracks don't allow corner cutting (eg safety) - or block it from the tee to stop it / tighten the landing areas etc.

But Yanks...............

So! Sitting Lowry and Fleetwood and sending Casey and Westwood out there again????? No issues with sitting Rory and Poults but Fleetwood and Lowry? Has Paddy lost the plot? Still, I'll get my Sunday back as it will be all over by Saturday night.
