Re: Drinking Alcohol in your seats

I don’t see why being able to drink beer from a plastic bottle should cause issues. The beer throwing is usually when crowds have plastic cups.

This isn’t really about people not being able to last 45 minutes without a beer, it’s about being treated like adults as we are when we go to the cricket or rugby.

I can see an argument for closing the bar during the game to stop people coming and going and disrupting others. But it’s practically impossible to buy and drink a beer within the half time interval so the idea of taking one to your seat to sup leisurely during the match may be quite appealing.

As with many things, the minority ruin things for the rest of us - so I would prefer to have systems in place to deal with those who abuse the privilege.

People will be asking for smoking to be allowed next, just so we can be treated like adults
Everybody seems happy that betting sponsors are being removed, yet if we were all adult about it there wouldn't be a problem with it.

It is a fact that smoking causes harm to those around them. Drinking alcohol doesn’t. The comparison is silly.

You want more bottles in the stands after what happened against Arsenal?

I suspect there’s zero chance of the government allowing this anyway, whatever some fans forum thinks.

It does if it makes them misbehave and start fights etc. I doubt a bit of passive smoking in the open will do any harm, bit like a beer garden.. Which not many have issues with.

You can take bottles of soft drinks to your seat can’t you?

Just because some idiots throw bottles (who can be easily identified on camera) shouldn’t mean that the rest of us can’t drink from them.

Are you really comparing smoking in your seat with drinking beer in your seat? That’s just dumb.

About time, I'm sick and tired of buying a pint at half time and having to down it in seconds in order not to miss the game, surely as an adult you should have the choice.

As long as you can identify to drunken idiot who hits you in the face with a bottle, or part of a seat, that's OK is it?

Just explaining after you suggested it was bad for everyone's health if smoking was allowed, which I wouldn't want to happen by the way.

Really? Have you seen what happened last week, without the benefit of a few extra pints during the game.

Smoking is legal in the outdoors, just approach both things sensibly please, can you get behind the wheel after a cigarette & be impaired enough to run somebody over? Not many people seem to be giving that any consideration which I find quite bizarre given that lots of people tend to drive to the game & back.

Some girly handbags with a few empty plastic bottles thrown and half a seat lobbed is hardly justification for years and years of almost zero incidents of aggro in the ground ( the exception with those badly dressed Germans a few yrs ago throwing stuff at families ) An odd extra pint here and there ain’t gonna make any difference

I’m not sure whether being able to take a beer to your seat will necessarily lead to people drinking more. And in any case drunk and disorderly people can be identified, banned and arrested - their actions shouldn’t lead to restrictions for the rest of us. How about we close all pubs in Burnley on match days?

Smoking is illegal in enclosed sports stadiums.

The most ridiculous thing is when they shut the blinds in hospitality during the match because you could be watching the game with a drink

But not in beer gardens as the initial example was stated, compared to minimal risk with passive smoking compared to motorists potentially hitting the road over the limit I know which 1 I find more concerning, I’m surprised at the logic after you condoning the use of tranquillisers on the roads but you seem to be more comfortable with a drug that’s far more dangerous when driving.

You've more faith in the morons, and the ability to identify them than I have, but that's too late once the troubles happened, it needs to be prevented in the first place, which over the years the banning of drinking in the ground seems to have helped in that respect, why change it.

Agreed
I'd rather run the risk to my health with somebody smoking a fag six seats away, against that person tanked up throwing items without decent aim

What in holy hell has that got to do with alcohol in the seats ?? While I appreciate JC ,you may have been born at 63yrs old , that argument is like saying “ shut pubs 2 hours earlier to stop people having an extra pint in case they drive “

Given that arsenal in the CFS was a pretty much isolated incident in the grand scheme of things it’s either here nor there, what is more concerning is the idea of encouraging more alcohol consumption when people are jumping into the cars at least with half time you’ve got over a hr detox with leaving the ground as well.

Can you guarantee that the alcohol will have safely lowered in peoples bloodstreams to a legal limit after leaving the ground. You aren’t talking about driving but some people could potentially be over the limit, it’s bizarre how against low doses of tranquillisers you are whilst people are driving but keen on the idea of people more & likely consuming more amounts of alcohol & then driving, quite a bizarre set of double standards.

I didn’t call you dumb, I called the comparison with being able to smoke at your seat dumb - which it is. Plenty of other sports allow drinking whilst spectating so we know that this can be safe. Smoking in an enclosed stadium is illegal, and I can’t think of any professional sport in the UK that allow spectators to smoke.

We can have a sensible discussion about the pros and cons, and I don’t expect everyone to be in support of this. But at least present a logical argument.

I’m all for better beer in the grounds, better service etc but beer in the stands is a no from me as the thought of getting covered in it with a goal after 2 mins is horrible. Stale beer all over your hair and clothes is disgusting.

Rugby/cricket - sit next to opposition fans and allowed to drink in your seat.

Football fans - need segregating and treating like children for fear they’ll have a punch up, just like cricket field stand last week.

You could argue the few ruin it for the rest, but given last week and even the Euro final debacle, it says more about football fans that the rules have to be there rather than those making the rules, to me.

I recall standing in the area before the Jimmy Mac stand was built after convincing my fiancé to go to a match, I can’t recall the year but it was against Sheffield Utd and the match start was delayed due to crowd problems, and during the game a bottle hit her shoulder from behind which could have been much more serious.
Needless to say she never went to the Turf again.
