Pope 6 - would have been a 7 as he was solid with some excellent catching but very poor positioning for their second, stood a far better chance if he hadn’t come
Lowton 8 - thought his defending was very good made around 3 goal saving tackles in the first half alone and was up against Leicester’s best player Barnes
Tarkowski 7 - generally solid but got caught by Vardy twice along with
Mee 6 - same
Taylor 6 - played Vardy on for their second but was okay, not as much going forward from him today
McNeil 6 - quiet on both sides
Westwood 7 - battled well and far better set pieces today
Brownhill 6 - could use the ball better at times going forward but gets through a lot of work despite being outnumbered in there
Cornet 9 - really gutted to see him pull up, what a goal. Looked threatening several times and you can see he’s got genuine quality
Wood 6 - unlucky with the late winner literally split second between him being on and off with their defender stepping up
Vydra 9* - can see how much better we are with him playing. It’s not just his movement and added pace but he was good technical ability (see his assist)

JBG 5 - poor really and missed Cornet in the second half

Really hope Cornet and Vydra’s injuries aren’t bad and they are both back in the 11 ASAP, they are key to our season IMO.

Pope 5 poor for both goals
Lowton 7
Tarks 6
Mee 6
Taylor 5 really poor again.
McNeil 6 struggled to get into the game
Westwood 6 good goal
Brownhill 5 frustrating game for him
Cornet 9 best player on the pitch by quite some distance
Vydra 8 a real threat all game
Wood 5 frustrating game for him, nothing landed right

I would rate the players higher if the result was better. We were in winning positions twice and managed to throw it away.
One of popes worst games in a Burnley shirt.

Pope 6 possibly over commited with their 2nd ( but technically perfect for 1st)
Lowton 7 torrid afternoon but stuck at it
Tarky 8 super cool, everywhere at the back
Mee 7 slow as treacle but some brave defending
Taylor 7 some good blocks needs to build with Cornet
Mcneil 6 few flashes but as ever flatters to decieve
Brownhill 6 loose passing and chased shadows
Westwood 6 gave far too much away
Cornet 8 superb goal and is clearly class
Vydra 7 lively and nice cross for goal
Wood 5 just not really firing

Gudmundsson 6
Barnes 5

Leics best team I’ve seen this season , rammed with talent and pace ,they created plenty . Our great 2nd goal aside we were dreadful in 2nd ( sans cornet ) though should have seen 1-2 out.

Just got back-a truly battling display against a side with pace.Totally deserved the point-could have had 3 at the end but was in line with the goal and Wood clearly off side. Great team performance

Pope 6-handled crosses well, some poor kicking, but not much to do
Lowton 8, a very good performance at both ends
Tarkowski 8-some great tackles to break down several attacks and very solid
Mee 7, generally good defensively
Taylor7-not at his best. The understanding with him and Cornet needs some work
McNeil 7-good first half and was very good with his passing but faded
Westwood 8-worked hard and was involved throughout-great corner for their og
Brownhill 8 pressed and tackled very well, worked very hard
Cornet 8-we looked a very balanced team when he was on. Like the way he tracked back, often posing a threat from a defensive position. Got to bye line nicely and great strike for his goal
Vydra 8-thought he was outstanding in the first half-really stretching their defence, and had some great runs. Great workk for our second goal
Wood 7-ran channels well, won quite a few aerial balls and almost scored the winner
JBG 7-thought he did well when he came on
Barnes 6
Lennon 6

Surprisingly (to me anyway) low individual scores for what was a gutsy effort with menacing counter attacking football in the first half. It will come!

Lowish marks because of poor second half display. First half was very good with Cornet and Vydra excelling.

Pope 4 easy save with his hands for the first, allover the place for the 2nd.
Lowton 8 very good defensively
Tarkowski 6
Mee 6
Taylor 6
Cornet 8 hand in both goals
Westwood 7 better today
Brownhill 7 good too
Mcneil 6
Vydra 8 brilliant
Wood 4 pretty absent throughout

JBG 3 genuinely woeful, twice in a row he needlessly gives the ball away, punting it down the line to nobody when under zero pressure. He looks 75 years old, playing walking football.

Barnes 3 dreadful, gave away 3 needless freekicks, failed to control a simple simple ball countless times.

Having been at Colne today I didn’t see the game, so
I can’t give ratings. However having seen Vardys late equaliser I find it strange that the blame / focus is being shifted onto Pope when you could easily say the positioning of the two centre backs (more so Mee) or even more so Taylor being deeper than the rest of the defence contributed just as much if not more to us conceding.

Pope 5 thought he was back to form until that second goal. Unexplainable coming off the line for that.
Lowton 9 brilliant defensive display. Stopped a few certain goals and was decent going forward. If he had a yard of pace he’d be a top top player.
Tarks 8 solid as a rock.
Mee 7 decent
Taylor 5 disappointing that he was so narrow for the first and was too deep for the goal.
McNeil 6 poor on the right and 2nd half we were on the back foot so he couldn’t get into the game. I would like to see Cornet on the right as if he can perform there we can get both wings firing.
Brownhill 8 good work defensively and offensively. It has been said before but he genuinely plays some good stuff when Vydra and Cornet play.
Westwood 7 good performance overall. Centre midfield looked solid again if not special.
Cornet 8 hope he’s not out too long. Movement is great and looks good technically. Great finish, great ball towards wood and good defensive recovery pace. Positive signs.
Wood 5 not involved today. Shame he didn’t get the goal with defender stepping up.
Vydra 9 brilliant battling display. His pace and quality give us another dimension. Get a new contract signed and get him starting every week.
JBG 6 was difficult for him coming on when we were being dominated second half. Some quality on show but we missed MC.
Barnes 5 again, difficult coming on when we didn’t have the ball but he’s not as good as Vydra or jay anymore. Still has a place but please don’t start him.

Pope 6 - Not attributing any blame, he just seems out of sorts generally at the moment.
Lowton 8 - He enjoyed it today, and you could tell especially first half. Form is only ever the issue for me, quality player
Tarkowski 7 - No surprise we struggled against Vardy’s pace. Thought we looked more ourselves at the back today, despite conceding two.
Mee 7 - as above
Taylor 8 - he gets through a lot of covering work unseen to a lot, once he learns to keep his concentration he’ll be a hell of a player.
Mcneil 8 - Enjoyed himself first half but less influential later
Brownhill 7 - Good from him today. Let’s not forget Leicester are no mugs.
Westwood 7- As above
Cornet 8 - wow, he looked perfectly happy to help out in defence, linked up well and what a goal!
Vydra 8 MoM - SD plays mind games with Vid undoubtably, he knows when he’s ready mentally to give him what he’s looking for, that was it. Just great to watch.
Wood 6 - another who to me seems a little under the weather, like Pope; nothing in particular but not quite ‘on it’ yet.

Subs

Gudmundsson 7 - thought he looked more willing to have a go today, which was nice to see.
Barnes 6 - nearly a 7, for me exactly how we should be using Ash now to see out games with a threat.

Disappointed not to win at Leicester has to be a good performance. A little more luck and we’d have had three points.

I really think Pope has cost us today. I can understand saving with legs when it’s one on one close up but Vardy was on the 18 yard line for the first and Pope should have time to adjust and dive to his right to a placed shot from that distance. The second he puts himself in no man’s land by rushing out and then checking his advance when he realises he can’t make it. Poor decision making or just poor goalkeeping, either way it has cost us.

Strange you wrote a paragraph about the 2nd goal we conceded and gave Pope a 4 whilst giving Tarkowski an 8, if Tarkowski does his job, Pope doesn't need to do anything.

Pope stays on his line then Vardy has to score from a tight angle if at all, Pope comes off his line and gives him an open goal. Poor decision

You could also write:
Taylor keeps in line with his other defenders and Vardy is flagged offside.
Or alternatively Mee and Tarks drop earlier and Mee in particular sees what’s developing (no pressure on the ball carrier who has all the time to pick his pass), therefore drops earlier and make sure he tracks Vardys run better and cuts out the danger / slows him down / aforces him wide (he was never winning a foot race without a head start).

It’s not that Pope couldn’t have done better but he seems to be being singled out when actually there’s a number of other players just as at fault ( avoiding scrutiny) before Vardy even gets to him.

Yes that’s right Kly, however it is difficult to mention anyone else. Pope made the critical error, all the other items you mentioned lead to Vardy having a chance. Pope coming off his line like that in the 85 minute was criminal and lead to an open goal.

Pope 5 poor decision for both goals IMO, I'm sure he will be disappointed with both of those going in
Lowton 8 very good
Tarkowski 7 the better of the 2
Mee 6
Taylor 7
McNeill 6 quiet again
Brownhill 7
Westwood 7
Cornet 8 looks some player, great gininsh, hopefully not out too long.
Vydra 8 his movement is tremendous, caused issue many problems, great assist. Will only get fitter and better playing a run of games
Wood 6 quiet again, but it will come.
Gudmundsson 6

Thought we played well in parts, we look far more of a threat and in several different ways, that is IMO our best 11 available at the moment, and it showed.
Keep playing like that , whilst tightening up our sloppy mistakes at the back and wins will definitely come.

Can't be anything else than a massive game next week v Norwich and I'd say a must win with the the games that follow, if for nothing but the confidence it will bring.

A pity about the disallowed goal because when Wood scores he usually has a run of games in which he scores.
Hopefully the first game of the new run will be v Norwich.....

you absolutely could, but Vardy has made a career of outpacing defenders far better than the ones we have, my only issue is Pope made it easy for him.

Pope may have made it easy for him, but bearing in mind we were winning 2-1 with about 7 minutes to go, did we not make it too easy for him to run in behind and outpace our defence in the first place?

You can either push up and deal with the threat by stopping the ball over the top at source, or you can allow the ball to be played but drop off so it's easy to deal with. What you can't do is leave the space for Barry to run into whilst allowing the ball to be played. That's what we did and whether or not pope makes it easy (he did), once he's in the position and in form Vardy scores. So it's not the case Pope caused the goal. The cause is further up the pitch.

In my view, two years ago in that situatio we'd have been defending 10 yards deeper and with the full backs a lot tighter than they were yesterday.
