Is there a good chance Connor Roberts will be on the bench v Southampton?
Is there a good chance Connor Roberts will be on the bench v Southampton?
As SD likes players to get a few games under their belt it seems an ideal time to name him as one of the subs at least.

I hope so. He’s got a good few weeks to get fit to the level of being on the bench.

Hopefully he'll get a couple of games and some match fitness for Wales next month

To know when would be good to blood him surely depends on his fitness levels and how he has settled into the group. I’d rather wait until the staff feel he is ready than risk either further injury or confidence that would result in bringing him through too soon. That said SD likes to blood players against City so he may pick ‘the free hit’ that comes from playing the very best.

Is it related to his current injury ? Some injuries can cause these secondary or related injuries.

I sort of read it like that, often happens with players when they are on their way back. I don’t think it will really hold him back.

I thought Lowton was brilliant yesterday, might find it hard to get into the 11 if that carries on.

Now we have Cornet on the left, McNeil could play centre midfield with Roberts on the right.PadihamThickNeck wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 6:54 pmI thought Lowton was brilliant yesterday, might find it hard to get into the 11 if that carries on.
Definitely an option of us.

The more options and the more players fit and match fit is obviously great news and then the Manager can decide which 11 to pick for each individual match.

Yes - think that’s his best route into the teamnil_desperandum wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 7:03 pmNow we have Cornet on the left, McNeil could play centre midfield with Roberts on the right.

Roberts here for solid competition won't do us any harm with Lowton. He'll have to perform at the top of his game to keep Roberts out.PadihamThickNeck wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 6:54 pmI thought Lowton was brilliant yesterday, might find it hard to get into the 11 if that carries on.

Exactly it's this competition for places that we've lacked for too long, although Bards was a decent enough back-up if required, he wasn't the future, whereas Roberts quite possibly will be.
And if the increased competition keeps the likes of Lowton on their toes then all the better.

As he's now fully fit you'd think he'd be at least on the bench next Saturday against Man City.

Fully expect to see him on the bench at the Etihad, and he may well feature in the cup game against Spurs, but I can't see Lowton being dropped with the form and attitude he's shown this season.
Nice options for SD to have mind you.

I could possibly see him starting at City, in front of Lowton in right mid. Cornet on the left, if fit, and push McNeil more central to pack the midfield out.
If all fit:
Pope
Lowton
Tarkowski
Mee
Taylor
Roberts
Cork
Westwood
Cornet
McNeil
Wood

History suggests it won’t.PadihamThickNeck wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 6:54 pmI thought Lowton was brilliant yesterday, might find it hard to get into the 11 if that carries on.
Don’t get me wrong, I like Lowton, but he sometimes goes missing. I don’t mean during games, I mean FOR games.
I’d like to spend some time looking at Robert’s, with Lowton as back up.
