The next four games

Post by leelad » Sun Sep 26, 2021 7:55 pm

The next four games will take us to 10 games played for the season, and that should give us an early indication of how difficult the season will be for us.

After 10 games last season, we had 6 points in total.

Currently we have 2 points, so I'm thinking that we need a result from the Norwich and Brentford home games. Taking something from Southampton would be a bonus and as for Man City away, let's not go there! ;-). Am hoping we can finish game 10 with 8 points. Thoughts?

Yesterday offered hope that we are still capable of nicking points, now we need to start turning these draws into wins, what's encouraging is we are carrying a goal threat, and netting twice at Leicester is no mean feat, however as ever in the PL it'll be the games against the teams likely to be around the drop zone that will be crucial.

Safe to write City off I think, but we are more than capable of getting a fair number of points from Norwich, Brentford and Southampton, 7/9 points from those fixtures, and we'll be averaging around a point a game, which given the slow start a few others have made should ensure we're out of the bottom 3 by then.

To put it into context we only had 6 points after 10 games last season, and a solitary victory against Palace to our name, yet we still comfortably stayed up, so I'm certainly not panicking yet, but as you rightly say these next 4 fixtures will go a long way to defining how our season may pan out.

Let's just hope Cornet and Vydra are both fit for these matches, they offer a totally different dimension to our attacking play.

I don't want to predict points from the next few games but, I do feel, we are playing well enough to pick up enough over the season. We've started slow before but I do feel we look far more productive now and when we fall in to our grove I think we'll be fine.

Norwich is a must win game.
City it would probably benefit us if we just forfeited and took the -3 goal difference rather than play.
Southampton got to at least get a draw.
Brentford got to get a draw (however the way they are playing at the moment that might be a stretch)

I'm confident we'll beat Brentford. Brighton are playing very well yet we should have been out of sight before they scored.

For me Brighton was a terrible loss. Potter outdid our man there.

You could say that about number of games this season but in reality we aren’t closing games out. That’s why I think getting something from Brentford will be difficult with the form there in

People keep talking about closing teams out, like it’s a magic formula. Part of the problem we have that despite taking leads we lack the confidence to take hold of the game fully by the scruff of the neck because fear is in our game. You don’t close out a game after an hour when your on top… that is when you go for the opponents jugular.

Lose to Man City and win the other 3. That’s my prediction. We are better than those 3 teams I believe.

6 points minimum needed, anything extra is a bonus. Every year we’ve been relegated we struggled against the bottom half teams. Win those, and you’re not going to be near the bottom 3.

Simples.
