Congrats Steve Bruce on reaching 1,000 games in management tomorrow
Bizarre as the events at Newcastle have been over the past week, Steve Bruce will experience his 1,000 game in the dug out tomorrow when Spurs come calling.
He had a heck of a playing career also 950 games, and a string of medals during his illustrious playing days.
In anyone's book that a decent career, and if or more likely when Newcastle show him the door I doubt he'll be out of work for long.

Amanda Staveley said today that if they decide to make a change of manager then Steve Bruce would be the first to know. I'd always assumed that if you were sacking someone you'd actually have to tell them.

Great achievement across 11 managerial jobs
Win percentage of 37.5, not bad seeing where he's been (Dyche's is 36.3% in 400 games here for comparison)
Wiki is suggesting he's already done 1000 games as of 2nd October though?!?

Not a bad manager a likeable grounded bloke IMO I can think of a lot worse, he’ll find another opportunity after the inevitable Newcastle departure.

People like to pick at Bruce, I have never really had strong feelings for or against him tbh. I think if he’d been a bit more loyal in his earlier career he’d be better thought of but his longevity speaks for itself.

Aye there was some confusion about this but apparently one of those games (I forget the club) he had been announced as manager but didn’t actually take charge until the game after.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 11:03 pmGreat achievement across 11 managerial jobs

I believe he is not bad at novel writing too.

I think if Newcastle had Ramsey, Ferguson and Paisley in charge they would still find fault

I've seen one online tonight claiming they should only sing about Robson, Keegan and Shearer at the game....I think he forgot they booed Robson when he was managerSpijed wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 11:23 pmNot many like him as their manager

I believe from what I’ve heard he is a far better manager than author. But he enjoys doing it so good on him.
Re: Congrats Steve Bruce on reaching 1,000 games in management tomorrow
Wouldn't it be the most ironic football story ever if they sack him then get relegated, I'd just love it.......to quote an ex unsuccessful Newcastle manager

I think Rovers hold that title still with the sacking of BFS, then being relegated the following season under his successor and yet to return.

It’s the method by which he is the first to know which will be interesting…face to face as it should be, or by email etc which seems to be not uncommon these days.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 11:01 pmAmanda Staveley said today that if they decide to make a change of manager then Steve Bruce would be the first to know. I suspect 1000 and out.

Congratulations to Steve Bruce.
By all accounts he’s a top bloke. Hell of a centre half in his time, too.

Congratulations to Steve Bruce, I met him when he was at Hull, he came over as a really nice bloke; he's done a fantastic job down the years.

I've not really followed closely his manager results but, without knowing the full stats, he seems to have a fair record.
I saw him play a fair few times for Man U, him and Pallister were a really top CH pairing in the early 90s. Very fine uncapped player indeed.

Not sure why he gets as much stick as he does.
Great player. Been a more than decent manager.
Always comes across as upfront, decent & honest. Good trend in today's media hyped bullsheet that surrounds the game.
He's better off out of it there anyway. The Mags will soon become insufferable.

Newcastle fans think they have a god given right to think they should be better than they are.

You can't knock his record in football including management. He can also look forward now to a nice retirement package
Re: Congrats Steve Bruce on reaching 1,000 games in management tomorrow
Down to earth bloke. I think he was managing Birmingham City when I saw him and his assistant in McDonalds in Burnley shortly before kick off!

Whilst they don't have a god given right to be better than they are, (no one does) they actually do have a god given right to think they should be better than they are. (everyone does).

Re: Congrats Steve Bruce on reaching 1,000 games in management tomorrow
They may have pots of cash but I don't think the Newcastle fans understand yet just how hard the next few season might be for them, their status has literally changed overnight.
Let's face it too, the other 19 clubs would love to send them down into the Championship just for the comedy value as much as anything.

Bruce being sacked would be 1 less Brit manager in the 'continental' Premier league.
