Jay Rod- The forgotten man ?
While I appreciate Wood should be given every chance to hit form, I find it incredible that Barnes is openly preferred to JR. These 3-8 min subs ( usually when the game is dead ) are an almost impossible task for any striker at any level . I genuine thought with the speed and class of MC and leaving Dwight to roam a bit would be meat and drink for a player with Rodríguez’s skills to be utilised. Even more so with Vydra in hand and Roberts chomping at the bit . My own view is that Jay has some kind of long term injury niggle as he seems to break down quite easily these days .
Re: Jay Rod- The forgotten man ?
Fine against lower league opposition but hasn’t looked anywhere near a PL quality player for some time.

Re: Jay Rod- The forgotten man ?
You could well be right , though I only saw him against Rochdale re: low league . But re: prem quality the same could be levelled at many of our players tbf. Only appeared to get a run last season when we were terrible . Though with such a woeful set of centre forwards who themselves get little service ,we could toss a coin for the 2 up front . For me though he appears our only option who “ might work something special “ Though as you said he may well be shot at this level .

As is Barnes.
Both continue to offer very little.

Re: Jay Rod- The forgotten man ?
The lot of our forwards are meh, Wood included, without his goals it's like playing with 10 men, complete passenger. Watching Toney now, he's always involved, scrapping with defenders, holding the ball up. I'd have Mitrovic and Toney over Wood all day long.

Can’t really argue with that , though IMO whereas Jay may well be “ going “ and possibly “ gone “ ( form wise) Barnes is turning into an awful liabilityElectroClaret wrote: ↑Sat Oct 16, 2021 6:57 pmHe is.

I thought so CT , And seems to be pretty fragile which I guess doesn’t allow him a run.
Re: Jay Rod- The forgotten man ?
Sean needs to utilise all four of them,at the right time, with the right situation during games, not leaving it too late, which frustrates us all, time and time again!

Re: Jay Rod- The forgotten man ?
The striking department is the next one in line for a an overhaul.
Think Wood & Vyds will stay for another couple of seasons and deserve to but Jay & Barnes need to be replaced, even in Jan with spending some bucks.
If we don't start scoring, we're down coz we sure ain't keeping clean sheets that often.

Not a fan personally.
Would love to move both him and Barnes on in January.

Re: Jay Rod- The forgotten man ?
The problem though will be finding replacements within our budget which will probably involve moving some on first. I’m not sure whether there’s any money in the pot.diamondpocket wrote: ↑Sat Oct 16, 2021 8:02 pmThe striking department is the next one in line for a an overhaul.

Re: Jay Rod- The forgotten man ?
Wood is the only premier league standard striker we have
Vydra has improved a lot, and he's certainly should be considered the back up
But both Jay and Barnes have really not showed anything for a while now at this level, certainly Barnes for a couple of seasons, and Jay for the last one
Its a huge concern as we just don't score enough goals as it is, and we are completely reliant on Wood scoring 10+ a season

Re: Jay Rod- The forgotten man ?
I think we should start Wood and Vydra as the main strikers every week, I’m convinced Vydra will get better, he just needs a constant run.

Re: Jay Rod- The forgotten man ?
The problem (IMO) is that we can't afford 2 strikers because it weakens our midfield.
i'd like to see JR up top in a formation, and with tactics, that held on to the ball better than we generally do.
We can all dream

Re: Jay Rod- The forgotten man ?
unless strikers get decent service from those around them they are bound to face lean times.
Ours would be more than capable of scoring their share if the team was creative enough.
Can't see any of this divisions top strikers doing much if their team was in a bottom three slot.
Barnes, wood, vydra and Rodriguez are very good players.

Jays the second best striker at the club, he’s the best footballer of the 4. Has he had his day? I’m not sure, I’m still a big fan

Will be the easiest one of the lot move on. Miami sounds good
Re: Jay Rod- The forgotten man ?
Sorry Wile, I get a lot of what you say, but the forwards have had service this season as opposed to others, but they have just not converted the chances.Wile E Coyote wrote: ↑Sat Oct 16, 2021 9:13 pmunless strikers get decent service from those around them they are bound to face lean times.

Re: Jay Rod- The forgotten man ?
Unpopular opinion…..
If he hadn’t started his career with us we would never have signed him. Done to appease the fans and now he is nowhere near good enough and being paid obscene wages in relation to his ability.
Love him to bits as a claret, but he is past his best.

Not a fan of people who jump ship at the first opportunity then come back when the club is bigger than they are and take one last payday.
If he was "one of our own" he'd have stuck around to try help the club at least for a season or two.
Quite frankly, he's more useless than Barnes now and needs rid of.

Re: Jay Rod- The forgotten man ?
I can't believe the negativity towards Burnley born Jay.Hes one of our best players and will deliver with someone of the class of Max And Vyds to feed off.
The lack of speed of our forward passes from midfield is our issue
Connor Roberts and Max as wingers with Dwight and Josh in midfield would sharpen up our attack
Nathan Collins looks a class act and Tarks or Ben at CB. With Charlie and Matt Lowton at dB.
The bench would be decent too with Barnes,Wood, Cork,Pieters and Westwood to draw on

He's hardly been given much of a run in the team. Play better football and he'll fit in better.

Re: Jay Rod- The forgotten man ?
For what barnes contributes in his cameos, may as well give max Thompson/Richardson a few minutes
Re: Jay Rod- The forgotten man ?
Yes Toney has been mentioned before on this forum. He was said to be a 'possibility' when at Posh. He was within our budget as well then.
Re: Jay Rod- The forgotten man ?
Wood doesn't have any kind of link up play in him, he's very good attacking the ball from corners but doesn't seem to win much in the air during open play which is strange. He really lacks an aggressive edge to his game too, fight the central defender to keep the ball. I don't think he has the fitness to get around the pitch either, atm he's just static half the time offside and offering zilch.
