Just comeback from injury, game was over, wrap him in cotton wool for winnable fixtures.

I'm fine with this. If we've any chance of staying up, we need our better players fit

Technically no, it wasn't, but we were behind at City having created little, and he's back from a hamstring tweak, to say nothing of his travelling for international duty and the comparatively few training sessions he's had with us. All said and done, Dyche bringing him off when he did was hardly the crime of the century, I think. "But why travel for int. duty then?" one might ask. Answer: because he's fit. But probably just not 90 mins away at City on the back of an injury — fit. TBH I'd probably have done the same and I used to be decent at Football Manager™ back in the day.

Rather lose 2-0 at City than lose Cornet for 3 months aggravating the injury he is coming back from ...

Bigger fish to fry as they say ... starting next week at St Marys

game was over at 1-0? That's rubbish and you know it. When has a game ever been over at 1-0 after 56 mins.? Do you always give in that easily? Pathetic.

No game is over at 1-0 obviously but I’d guess the plan was to give him an hour or so.
Tends to be then general “medical” time from coming back from an injury.

Anything between 55 and 65 can be fatal I’m told.

Posting a claim that "Anything other than between 55 and 65 can be fatal" !!

Then, quoting yourself suggests that someone should've left The Swan a lot earlier than nearly half eleven!!

We lost so factually the game was over after 12 minutes. City away is a complete an utter write off for me, I'd rather we conceded the 3 points before the whistle was blown to avoid potential injuries. As posted above, we have bigger fish to fry.

Exactly! and the same posters complaining that he was subbed too early would have been bemoaning Sean's decision if he'd stayed on for another 15-20 minutes and then done his hammy, or suffered another injury.

The reality is Cornet is too important to risk bizarre as it may seem given he's only played a few games in a Burnley shirt, and if taking him off relatively early in a game we're unlikely to pick up a result in means we have more hope of collecting points in the 2 next fixtures I've got no probs with the gaffer making that call.

He started which was positive of SD. I would have liked to have seen Roberts come on to replace him, as he can play wide right effectively. Couple of occasions yesterday where JBG got the ball wide right, near the byeline but had to check back to use his left foot, by which time the moment had passed. How often do we see this. I hope Roberts does not get disillusioned by lack of opportunities and poor performances by players on the right side. When Wales pick their next team he will be one of the first on their team sheet

Roberts will get his chance, and yes he could well do a shift wide right, he certainly tried to get himself forward whenever he could in his Wales appearances, and he looks to possess a decent delivery on him as well. So I've no doubt he'll quickly become a firm fans favourite.

Was ok yesterday. Liked the way he started in a free roaming position but when dyche decided he wanted more defensive stability he slotted in at left midfield very well. It’s clear that when fully settled and firing with all of our other players on the same wavelength that he’ll get a lot of goals and assists. His movement is great, he’s quick, and he’s a good technical player as well. And it is that threat that will push teams back, giving us a better chance of creating from midfield and also a threat when defending a lead.

Seems obvious that dyche wanted to protect him and sees him as highly important for next week.

I found it interesting that Cornet was on average our most advanced player yesterday.

Maybe Dyche sees him as the long term partner for Wood?

He said after the game that he looked much more settled when he was on the left. Seemed Dyche actually had options to change formation in the game which is intriguing.

Interesting, I actually thought he looked better off Wood.

I would love to see Cornet, Gudmundsson and McNeil play in a interchangeable three behind wood

I agree. Particularly against lesser teams when we have more of the ball, those 3 behind a striker are very good footballers. Although Vydra is also a very good option so he probably relaxes gudmundsson. Either way, they are very good options.

How do you co-ordinate defensive duties with three attack minded players there would be oceans of room in midfield every time we lose the ball… if their fluid who is do what when, who decides? Who takes presidency? Who falls back? Do the defenders push up perminantly push up to the half way line? I could go on….

Not that complicated. We play a 442. From a 4231 to get the same defensive solidarity the two wide players in the 3 go back into the shape. It’s what we did against city when brownhill played behind wood. Realistically 451, 4231, 4411, 433 are very similar depending on defensive duties.

The Oceania WC qualifiers have been re-scheduled to March, probably around the same time as the scheduled international break on the weekend of the 26th.

If he's start to this season is anything to go by, I would hope that wood is absolutely not long term, he's been absolute garbage, lots of people will disagree I know, while at Leeds and scoring 29 goals most of them came from through balls from midfield, and some from penalties, plus in the championship. As a team under dyche we don't play through balls and players that could play that way seem to have lost the ability under dyche, there could be numerous other reasons as I'm sure some will point out, but the fact is right now he's not doing what he's there for, and we have to remember he's only as good as he's last game, but summing up I sure hope he's not long term.

He blows a bit hot and cold with his form, and at the moment looks weary, probably from all the extra games and travel he’s clocked up with NZ. But he’s been our top scorer every season since he came hasn’t he? Baffling comment.

All goal scorers go through barren spells - he’ll get through it, hopefully this afternoon

Cornet is a very talented lad, but I cant figure out what his position is. While we were researching him in the transfer thread, he had played as a forward, right winger, left winger, and the his last position at left back, ideally we would want him as a winger but going of his matches for us, he doesn't track back, and I cant work out if that's because he doesn't have the engine to do it, or he doesn't want to do it, but which ever 1 it is, he cant play like that for us as a winger. Or is it because Dyche has seen something in him and wants him to play up top, in which case we need another winger. and stop laying Dwight on the right, his best position is on the left. 2 good goals today but every time we lost the ball he went missing which is frustrating as he has so much promise.

What is clear is that he needs to be in the starting eleven because it looks likely that he will pose our biggest goal threat. I’m not sure how exactly we do that but from what I’ve seen of him I think I’d be looking at a 4-4-1-1 with Cornet playing off Wood. Unfortunately that takes us back to where we were in the wide positions, still needing an upgrade on the right.

A 4-3-3 with Mcneil and Cornet flanking Wood looks good on paper, but our full backs play so narrow that we would be totally exposed on the wings.

I originally suggested he play up front alongside Wood (and I got considerable stick for suggesting that), I was wrong, we need to play him up front alongside Vydra.

Indeed we need to find his best position. Great talent to have though. I thought he actually tracked back quite a lot but often got into a slightly wrong position too narrow. It may take time for him to be fully ready to play winger in a 442 so in the mean time I’d imagine we’ll play 451 or play him up front. 451 with brownhill actually in midfield and then able to move out wide when cornet makes his runs. It’s difficult because his runs in behind are so dangerous as dyche has said himself so you don’t want him to stop that but you need a bit more defensive stability.
