Think it will be more due to how many goals we score more than what you say
But strangely enough I’ve seen us play much worse than most of the games this season and pick up more points playing not as well
We just need a bit of the rub of the green to get things moving
Let’s hope you’re wrong 🤞🏻👍🏻

I'm less worried at this stage in the season than I was at this stage last season. We're playing well overall and with a bit more luck, could have more points on the board. Of course we need to start taking our chances but they will come.
FWIW I've spoken to fans of a couple of teams we've played this season and they think we're a stronger/better side than last season and they think we'll be comfortably safe come May.

I was encouraged by Watford's comedy defending rather than their getting an immediate "bounce". Only saw the highlights, but if that continues, we should overtake them.

We have made some good signings I think and they will take time to settle in - although Collins seems to have done already but in a position where we are well covered. Creativity and in fact scoring and bad luck are our issues at the moment. Add some poor officiating as well.

If we can keep our best players fit we stand a good chance of staying up. We need to start scoring goals from open play and return to what we’ve been brilliant at over the season in keeping clean sheets.

The nest two games will be a good indicator of where we will finish this season. Anything less than 4 points and it looks like relegation will probably happen.

No, they'll simply be an indication of where we are now and the task that lies ahead of us to stay up or push on to mid-table.

If we do drop out of the PL this season, Newcastle takeover, has made it more likely, I feel there is every chance that we would return at the 1st opportunity.

I think the next 2 games will form my opinion.

4 points from the next 2, and yes 7 from 11 isn't a great return and is slightly behind the curve, however it puts us in the hunt, lifts confidence, and stops the negative comments and questions about no wins, yet etc etc
With our better players back, playing and with a full squad to pick from it could be a spring board to start getting some points on the board

0 or 1 point from the next 2 with Chelsea up next could see us on 4 points from 11, and even with all the players back I just think it will further demoralise us, we will be way behind the curve, added pressure of playing catch up, and the games v teams around us start becoming must wins rather than must not lose.
That's a whole different kind of pressure, one that I think would be too much for us this season.
The press start loading pressure on with the awkward questions, crowd gets tense, constant reminders of the lack of wins and points etc etc

Certainly a very big week coming up for us.
Without sounding dramatic I really do think the next 2 league games will make or break the season.

Burnley have only two points from four home games, scoring only two goals and they have played some very beatable teams, all four of them. Unless this changes they are doomed.

Hard to tell at this moment, but we're obviously behind the points per game needed to stay up.
We're playing well enough in the middle but have been poor where it counts, in defence and scoring goals.

Now Pope looked back to his best yesterday and Collins is a massive plus. Which gives me hope of clean sheets.

Unfortunately i have no confidence in our strikers to score enough goals at the minute. Wood and Barnes have been awful. Jay Rod looks off it and Vydra hardly plays.

The good signs are Cornet and Vydra can stretch play and maybe even score from through balls. Which has been missing from our team for years.

We might bring in Connor Roberts and everything click though. Better service and 5 or 6 more chances a game created.

Norwich are gone
Watford probably
Just a case of who else, Brentford look a good side everytime I have seen them but could tire out from playing high tempo all season.

For me-it depends on which "Burnley team " turn up. Arguably our three best performances have been v Liverpool, Man City and Leicester

If we can hold Man City away to just 2-0, and you can pick fault with both their goals, then we should be able to keep clean sheets. With our current squad we are not going to stay up because of our ability to score goals, however if we can grind out a number of clean sheets, we are capable of nicking a goal and getting 3 points-a trademark of previous Burnley performances. WE need to do our homework now (like we did with Collins) and get in a goal scorer in January. I think also SD can feel quite happy with playing 5 in midfield, where we created more chances v Man City than we did v Norwich when we played two up front. Definitely for me 5 in midfield away to the top clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd

OP is a bit premature with this post. If Wood’s late winner at Leicester hadn’t been ruled out for 1cm offside and VAR had been switched on,or muppet hadn’t fallen asleep at Stockley Park when Vydra got cleaned out against Norwich we could be on 7 points now.
It will be a struggle this season but I think there are three worst teams than us. Two that instantly spring to mind are Watford and Norwich.

It is going to be a long season but if we manage to harness the capabilities of Cornet and Vydra in helping Wood score goals I suspect way may drag ourselves free of the bottom three by May. Add McNeil and Roberts to the supply of balls into the box and our 'goals for ' will inrease.
2-2 against Leicester and the most recent game v City where we actually competed and gave them a game suggest we have a team capable of holding its own in the Premiership.

I agree with Macca , our next two games are vital . If we don't get anything off Brentford or Southampton , we could be 11 points adrift of Southampton who've got Watford next week .

I think the fact that we are still only one win away from getting out of the relegation zone is a big positive

No doubt we've been playing well in the majority of games, but we still are not scoring enough, and we are still on an unenviable run of form at home, and have little chance of getting back into games when we are 1-0 down

I was expecting relegation last season, and we survived comfortably, so I'm not getting too worried so far, but we need that first win and we need to be more creative

I mean, yesterday was a positive, Cornet should score and Brownhill should certainly hit the target, but at the end of the day we still lost

Well, at least we didn't leave the Etihad after a 5-0 defeat! I have always said that the league table after 10 games played is a good early marker as to the rest of the season ahead. I think we need ideally 4 points from the next two games to stay in touch with the teams above us. I don't think we want to be in a position where we need two wins or four points to climb out of the relegation zone. Norwich are down for me, if their striker cannot score into an open goal, that tells you a lot about their form. I think Watford are going to struggle for the next few weeks or so under Ranieri. I can see Newcastle taking at least a draw from the Tottenham game. I can't see at this stage three poor teams in the division, apart from Burnley. So the next two games are very important for the rest of our season, if we get below 4 points from these, it's going to be a tough ask to stay up. Keep the faith, UTC.

Playing well and not winning is more worrying than playing poorly and not winning imo. In previous seasons we close out at least 2 of those leads (Leicester/Brighton/Leeds). I think the defence has been exposed individually without having the entire midfield defending on their toes, soon as we open up a touch, Tarkowski and Mee look all over the place and found out.

Pope has been shockingly bad this season, another soft soft error for the first goal Yesterday. We look so fragile. I think we need to remain in the fight until January and then hopefully add a good striker to the mix. I say that but aint we gonna lose both Cornet and Wood for a month for International fixtures?

As long as we stay in touch with teams in the bottom 6 going in to the second half of the season I think we will have a fighting chance of staying up.
The squad is much better this season and the teams that we have played have had to work hard to get points from us. More points lost than it should have been really.
Our Achilles heel is plain to see and starts around the 60 minute mark. That has to be overcome.

It’s not looking good but it’s still early days & eventually we will get our first win & improve, I think whatever happens it’s definitely a relegation scrap I can’t see us ever having enough throughout to pull clear & not worry.

We’re not doing well but we’re playing reasonably. We’ve definitely not found our most effective eleven yet.

We’ve played

Man City, Liverpool, Leicester and Everton away from home.

We’ve struggled at home but been unlucky.

We’ve been on the wrong end of some shocking decisions.

We’ve been on the wrong side of those very fine margins.

I think (or at least hope) we’ll just have enough!

We need to take our chances when they come and we will be ok..Wood and Jay are having a lean spell just now but will come good.Think Ash needs replacing in January with another striker though, he has been a great player for us but this season he has been very poor.
Cornet,Roberts and Collins are going to be great signings i think, just need a couple more and a bit more luck.

It'll be tough no doubt, but we're showing enough to suggest we can still get out of trouble.

Agree with several posters that the next 2 are vital, if we can take 6 points then great, but even 4 would be decent, and put us back in the pack.

Losing at the Etihad is no disgrace, and we were at least competitive this time instead of succumbing to our usual 5-0 defeat.

Cornet looks like he'll offer us a new dimension, and it was pleasing to see SD adapting to 5 in midfield, that tweak won't work in every game, but it's good to know we now have the option should we wish.

The big worry for me is where are the goals coming from, Wood is out of form, and the other 3 strikers have struggled for a long while to find the net, plus our midfield rarely contribute to our goal tally.

8 games played, 5 goals scored, and only scoring more than once in the Leicester game, now if we could get back to keeping clean sheets this wouldn't be as much of an issue, but we don't seem capable of reeling off the 1-0 wins as we used to be.

However it's certainly far too early to wave the white flag just yet as many posters appear to be doing.

Things can change quickly of course, but as it stands it looks like 3 from 7, as it's hard to see anyone from Arsenal and above being dragged in, although I suppose someone such as Brentford might experience a poor run of form.

How long are we gonna continue trotting out the excuses about lack of luck/decisions?

Our home form and form in general has been appalling for way too long.

Just posted on another thread, that we are playing some of our best and most consistent football, in all our time in the Prem. Lack of goals, and luck, is costing us. We have a squad that offers far more options than previous years.
Max with his direct running, sharp passing, and eye for goal, frees Dwight to play central. Collins gives us the option to try 3 at the back, or defend a lead. Roberts hasn't been tried yet, but if anything like his Wales form, he can operate wingback or wide midfield.
So many positives, I'm confident we can turn this around. We ate one win away from getting out of the bottom 3, 2 wins away from midtable. It's a strange season that has 3 teams without a win, and another 3 only with 1. I think we are playing far better than those around and just above us, but we aren't getting the breaks. But we will.

All the signs are there for a disappointing end to our Premier League tenure.

Can't win at Home is a huge factor and really struggling to find the goal another. The Leicester performance was encouraging but they were in a bit of a slump as well.

As much as fans think there are 3 worse teams, I would bet we are in everyone else's bottom 3.

Have you also noticed our fans who claim there are three worse sides are struggling to name who they are? A couple have had a go and come up with just one or two...

It's been reported today that Newcastle's transfer budget is 50m in January . If true , that ain't enough to guarantee them pulling clear of us .

Just watched whole game on SKY. You cannot knock the performance but with now 11 PL games without a win and 8 defeats, there is a loss of belief in the team, particularly our strikers. My worry is that we can continue playing "well" in future games but failing to score or win

I think loyalty by SD has to be let go a bit now. I would not touch the Tarks/Collins partnership, even if Ben is fit. Cornet has to start whenever fit, same applies to Vydra. Any game time enjoyed between JBG and Lennon must be given to Roberts as he needs to be introduced as an active player. People on here are pigeon holing him as a RB, but in the modern game he is a wide wing man, a natural right footer and someone who can deliver a telling cross without having to check back

I love it when these new supporters get drinking a post stupid threads after a loss.

When I was a lad city would put 5, 6 or 7 past us. Now it’s only 2 :D We’ve come a long way!!

Pope was outstanding yesterday.

Stop being a drama queen and you're not funny enough to be a parody account.
He was good overall, still cost us a goal though with a weak save. By his high standards he's been genuinely awful this season, looks shaky and is costing us goals.
