We're going to improve results if we keep our best players fit, no doubt. But it'll think it'll be close, I do feel Norwich aside, that the league is stronger this year. Presumably Newcastle will buy their way out of trouble in January, Brighton have moved up a gear, Palace are a lot better than I'd hoped they'd be under Viera, Southampton are no slouches, Brentford have made a tremendous start and you'd think Leeds will get better. Things will obviously change during the season but we have our work cut out

I love it when these new supporters get drinking a post stupid threads after a loss.

When I was a lad city would put 5, 6 or 7 past us. Now it’s only 2 :D We’ve come a long way!!
So you were a lad 12 months ago but you're attempting to insult others with the ''you're a new supporter, i'm a real fan'' approach? Anyone born in Burnley is a real fan regardless of when they were born imo.

Just posted on another thread, that we are playing some of our best and most consistent football, in all our time in the Prem. Lack of goals, and luck, is costing us. We have a squad that offers far more options than previous years.
Not according to many we aren't playing some of our best football but I agree with you. The real concern is playing well and not getting points will, if it continues, drain any confidence and then we are in trouble.

Only Norwich this season have I left disappointed with the performance overall but we've got to start winning soon. At the very least it will stop these tiresome threads.

So the general consensus on here is that we are playing well and we will be fine.

0 wins in 11 games.
4 wins in 27 games.
0 wins in the last 14 home games.
1 win in the last 16 home games.

Putting this form down to luck/decisions is blindly ignoring facts and excusing mediocrity.

Maybe someone can fill me with confidence, so I have a question......

If you cannot win when you are playing well, when do you win?

Eventually, we will but I am sure that Sean and the lads will be giving their all and that's good enough for me
Why do you think Sean got a four year extension on his contract.

They don’t talk about us because we are unfashionable and predictable, and none of them expect us to do anything other than we do every year… another couple of defeats and Shearer will have to reword the annual speech explaining to the audience the reason we are ignored is we are not really serious relegation candidates…. And as with previous years it will prove to be correct.

we'll be fine, stop worrying, there's loads of games left to sort ourselves out.
Yes, it has been a poor start, but only losing by 2 to man city is encouraging.
the first win is due next game, and then its business as usual.

The wins will come if we continue to approach games as we are. I guess some on here will be disappointed, maybe you, maybe not, when that happens.

Glad someone still believes in the manager and squad, I have a really good feeling next week will be our 1st win, 3 points at Southampton and the table and overall mood will be very different.

He was good overall, still cost us a goal though with a weak save. By his high standards he's been genuinely awful this season, looks shaky and is costing us goals.
https://youtu.be/XlvuSMXV_eU
Watch the goal again. Especially the save from behind the goal angle. It was superb. After going the other way (centering himself) to get down that far at full stretch.

At the time I thought Tarky got in a poor position to clear any rebound but looking back, Silva pounced so quick he didn't have time to turn round.

I don't disagree, we have definitely played well so far and have shown in the past we typically string a mini run of results together. The stats are definitely worrying though

I believe we are definitely better than Norwich, Watford & Southampton and possibly Leeds and Palace.

I would have included Newcastle to that lot but now they are billionaires, probably not.

It's way too early to start panicking

Difficult to say anyone else on current form. Watford even have a good cushion to ourselves.

There's no denying the points return has been dire, but you have to judge us on how we play. We may still get relegated, but our performances have been very good, if not complete. Southamptons only win was against a useless Leeds team. Leeds only win was against a poor Watford team, and even then should only have been a point with Watfords disallowed goal. Norwichs 2pts have come because of 2 dreadful penalty decisions. We need their kind of luck, and I would still prefer our chances to theirs because of our performances. As long as we keep our heads, and carry on playing in the same fashion we will be ok. It's very rare that a team gets relegated playing as well as we have.

Unfortunately league tables do not judge on how you are playing. Performances mean nothing, points mean everything. That’s the stark reality we face.

We’re not doing well but we’re playing reasonably. We’ve definitely not found our most effective eleven yet.

We’ve played

Man City, Liverpool, Leicester and Everton away from home.

We’ve struggled at home but been unlucky.

We’ve been on the wrong end of some shocking decisions.

We’ve been on the wrong side of those very fine margins.

I think (or at least hope) we’ll just have enough!
Some of those decisions have been unbelievable when compared with what has gone against us lol

If and I mean IF we did end up relegated..I will stand by that I believe we would be promoted again. There seems to be another gulf formed again in the championship that wasn't there before for a long time.

But for how decent we are playing compared to when we turned it around last season let's hope we do it sooner than later.

Same as ever, need 35 points and may be 40 depending on how crucial 6-pointers go.

That’s a minimum 32 points from 30 games. 8 wins 8 draws. Personally I think we’ll be fine, but we have to grind out those wins.

It’s depends I move about a lot maybe things have changed but a few months ago it was all phone calls & video chats, hence the standing joke what was circulating about on Facebook with people willing to swap doctors appointments for diesel when the fuel shortages were on. It’s concerning for some old people who haven’t embraced the newest technology accessing some services.

I would say we are playing better (other than a few games and moments) but many other PL clubs usually in the bottom half have really raised their squads and player quality. I keep getting shot down when I say the PL has really moved on in terms of players and quality. We have failed to do so. OK we made 3 good outfield signings, but after 8 league games, Collins has played two games through forced injury to Ben, Cornet has not completed two halves yet, and if we are lucky Roberts might get minutes in the League Cup against Spurs

If you are referring to accessing primary care, that's certainly not the case in Burnley - a significant proportion of appointments are being undertaken over the phone or through video conferencing.

If teams have really moved on then the total points at the top end of the PL will be less than in previous seasons as lower mid table sides will take more points off the teams that are expected to complete for the Champions league places and the likes of Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea.

That would be the best indicator. However, looking at the points spread so fat it's the same as in previous seasons.

That’s exactly what I was saying ever since covids appeared doctors seem terrified of face to face appointments.

What happened to fans being the 12th team member?

Seriously, some fans having been predicting our downfall since the moment we won promotion.

Seriously this negativity affects other fans and then you complain there is no atmosphere. I’m sure it also affects our players confidence.

There is a long season ahead. Who ever said it was going to be easy? UTC!

Thimk this season will be our last in premier League for a while We have inconvenienced them long enough now.No media interest unless it's about racism or homophobic chants.Cant see us getting any decisions from referees,no TV interest..File under Wigan, Huddersfield etc.
Well if it is,I'll still support my club what ever league we are in,I suggest you do the same and support the team instead of giving up on them after only a handful of games

Hard to tell at this moment, but we're obviously behind the points per game needed to stay up.
We're playing well enough in the middle but have been poor where it counts, in defence and scoring goals.

Now Pope looked back to his best yesterday and Collins is a massive plus. Which gives me hope of clean sheets.

Unfortunately i have no confidence in our strikers to score enough goals at the minute. Wood and Barnes have been awful. Jay Rod looks off it and Vydra hardly plays.

The good signs are Cornet and Vydra can stretch play and maybe even score from through balls. Which has been missing from our team for years.

We might bring in Connor Roberts and everything click though. Better service and 5 or 6 more chances a game created.

Norwich are gone
Watford probably
Just a case of who else, Brentford look a good side everytime I have seen them but could tire out from playing high tempo all season.

And the race for 17th is well and truly under way!

Can't remember which journalist in the Athletic it was, but when he was discussing our takeover by ALK he made the point that for all but the established top six, plus 2 or 3 other clubs then 17th has to be the ambition for the rest of the PL. Anything else is a bonus.

The Norwich performance and result was hard to take but at least we didn't lose.
We need to perform better in games where we have a chance. Right now it seems like the players seem to lack the motivation to put in good performances against similar opposition.

I doubt Leicester, Villa, Leeds, Everton, West Ham and Wolves had an ambition of finishing 17th at the start of the season.

That's so true. It's why I don't get that excited by football these days. If we win we win, if we lose we lose. It is what it is.

Motivation or quality odd 1 or 2 aside?
I think it's motivation, but also lack of quality on the ball. We've about as much vision in attack as a blind man on a galloping horse and about as much pace as a blind man without a galloping horse.

Cornet definitely sees passes that our other players don't which is fantastic.

If we can play better football against poorer sides we'll be okay. If we keep resorting to long ball predictable crap then we won't.

Yes sadly it seems unless you sell your soul as Newcastle have become the latest to do, it's practically impossible to remain at the top table.

We've done remarkably well to maintain our position at the elite level for 6 successive seasons, and as fans we should be grateful for that, not to mention the thrill of competing in Europe for the first time in over 50 years.

We may drop this season we may not, but the odds are we will return to the Championship sooner or later, as many have done before us, and no doubt many will do after us.

So you were a lad 12 months ago but you're attempting to insult others with the ''you're a new supporter, i'm a real fan'' approach? Anyone born in Burnley is a real fan regardless of when they were born imo.
I’m all for new supporters. Just don’t come on here when you’ve been drowning your sorrows.

I doubt Leicester, Villa, Leeds, Everton, West Ham and Wolves had an ambition of finishing 17th at the start of the season.
Two or three others he intimated at are the ones in your list.

He was good overall, still cost us a goal though with a weak save. By his high standards he's been genuinely awful this season, looks shaky and is costing us goals.
Utter nonsense and garbage. Go and look at their 1st ,he picks spot hits it clean ,Pope gets full stretch for a good save and is helpless to stop the point blank finish . I think Pope’s a good prem keeper with slightly iffy feet stopping him becoming seriously high class . As for 2nd no chance and our preposterous diving ( Westwood ultimately ) Pope stood no chance .

I just hope none of our players or management staff read this forum.

No chance with the 2nd, the first he gets a full hand to it, too strong of a hand which puts it on a plate for Bernardo. I agree Pope's a very good PL goalkeeper he's just out of form this season imo. Conceding soft goals like the Arsenal freekick.

I thought he did well to get to the first.
The problem there was that the way city play we end up very deep, so the initial shot is through a crowd and the player tapping in the rebound is about 2 ft from goal and not offside

If we do drop out of the PL this season, Newcastle takeover, has made it more likely, I feel there is every chance that we would return at the 1st opportunity.
Not so sure about the Newcastle factor.
1. They can’t buy any players until January, by which time they could be rooted at or near the bottom.
2. How many of these ‘world class’ players they are allegedly going to sign are going to want to get into a relegation scrap?
3. Even great players if bought en masse would take time to gel.
4. Even City didn’t become what they have overnight.
5. Most top players want to play in the Champions league - that is not going to be Newcastle next season.
6. There is, I am told, a limit to how much they can spend initially due to FFP.
7. Newcastle is a cold dark place in winter for Brazilians, Spaniards and Italians to rock up to.
They may stave off relegation but I think whatever happens they are in for a long hard season and it may be a year or two before they seriously launch a challenge.

FFP won’t be a problem for them, due to there profit over the last few seasons they can spend close to 200m without breaking FFP.

That is before they sign a crazy lucrative sponsorship deal with one or two of multi million pound companies the owner has.

Think Newcastle will be comfortably safe. They have a decent enough squad.

We have got to hope Watford, Leeds and possibly Southampton start to drop points. They look the most likely clubs to be near the bottom.

Leeds look like this years second season syndrome club…like Sheff Utd. Southampton continue to be shite but hopefully this season will see them down. Norwich will finish bottom for sure. There are plenty of rubbish clubs around. And we always take about 8 games or so to get going. I think with our new lads we are stronger than for a while. And we have not been playing too badly all in all. Only bad point for me is, and I hate to say this, Pope is not looking too hot this season. Maybe he needs a rest.
