Does anyone watch foreign leagues regularly?

Post by gandhisflipflop » Sun Oct 17, 2021 10:25 am

When I was a kid I used to watch foreign leagues and enjoy them more than our leagues. I watched Football Italia, and when that finished I’d watch La Liga and ‘Rivista de la liga’ on sky sports. Then life got in the way in my late teens and 20s and didn’t watch as much due to work/going out etc...

Anyway, now that I have a family I find myself in most weekends so I thought I’d watch the late kick off which I enjoyed, then switched to AC Milan v Verona which was a great game with Milan coming from 2 goals down to win 3-2. I notice that there is a Gollazo programme on BT now which is on tonight followed by Juventus v Roma.

After that long winded post i was just wondering if anyone else watches and follow foreign leagues and I’d be interested to know which league you follow, why, how you watch that league and if you have a specific team.

Used to love football Italia as a kid. I've watched a bit this season with it being back on BT. Problem is there's just too much footy on TV these days, it's over saturation.

Don’t watch much but follow Sampdoria very closely and have since the early 90s. In fact, I started supporting them the night they appeared (and lost) in the European Cup Final at Wembley to Barcelona in 1992 (Ronald Korean free kick). I used to love Sundays when Samp were on Channel Four!

Having watched St Pauli live on several occasions I follow their progress closely and watch them on TV whenever possible. Oddly enough I've never seen them lose when I have been to see them (which is a bit like a Man City season ticket holder saying he's never seen City win!).

I watch Portugese and Belgian top flights if I've nothing on whilst a game is on. Former is on Free Sports and latter available free on the OneFootball app. Sporting and Genk the two teams I follow

I used to watch La Liga on Sky - the Barca v Real games were always something else.

Now, an occasional Bundesliga game.

Like many I used to enjoy the C4 Italian football on a Sunday but don’t bother as it’s now on satellite also far to much footy on TV now.

Juve v Roma shortly. The gollazo programme on before it is hosted by James Richardson (former ch4 football italia host) and it’s the old football Italia intro music which brings back great memories

Nope.
I might catch the odd CL/EL game, but I'm more likely to listen to football on the radio when out working.

I've never understood people who watch games from around the world, but if that's their hobby then so be it, could be far worse.

I watched Az Alkmaar v Utrecht earlier today. I used to watch alot of South American league football, back when Jorge Sampaoli guided Universidad de chile to the Copa Suda trophy in 2010ish. I watched Racing club v Platense the other night, I'm not a fan of Argentinian football, reminds me of Ligue 1, so slow paced. I used to enjoy the tiki taka style of Atletico Nacional Medellin, brilliant side back then.

I have a season ticket for C.S.Maritimo in the Portuguese Primeira League. Costs 55 euro's and includes all home games {unreserved seat}. Struggling this season though early days, like someone else I know !!

Very harsh on Roma there. Abraham equalises but penalty given for foul split second earlier and they miss it.

When I can I watch South American leagues, mainly Argentina (always had a love of Racing Club since I was a kid). Very difficult finding streams now though but can see replays on YouTube.

If they come on sky or some free view form, then I watch or would watch games from netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, and certain clubs in France, Ireland, Germany, bits of Scandinavia.
Sky seem keener to show games from countries that I have no interest in, so won't watch.
Until covid, it was easier for me to get to breda, lokeren, cercle etc than to get to the Turf.

I watched them the other night, vipbox.lc/football-live, take your pick on there. Wasn't a pretty watch, lost 1-0 at home. Seems Lisandro Lopez has been turned into a central midfielder

They started the season well but have taken a dip. Lopez hasn’t played every game and he should be played up front. Still has goals in him.

I watched Maritimo play when I had a holiday on Madeira in the mid 80’s, an evening KO.

I was particularly impressed with both teams warming up intensely for a good 30 minutes then going off before the KO.

Never saw that in the English game in those days.

Quite enjoy watching the Bundesliga every now and then.

There are some really good teams in that league.

Old as hell, still a very good player for that level. He was definitely playing a deep role, strange to see him collecting the ball off the central defenders with that carthorse Copetti leading the line.

up until the pandemic I watched loads of football both foreign and domestic, probably way too much football. I watch so little of it now and tbh I don't miss it

Milan away at Bologna tonight just gone 0-2 up and Bologna down to 10 men. Bologna have Arnautovic (remember him?) up front and a young Scot at left back called Aaron Hickey.

Elsewhere this weekend. It’s the derby D’Italia with Inter at home to Juventus. Jose Mourinhos Roma are are at home to Napoli, there’s big games in France and Spain with Marseille at home to PSG and the El Classico in Spain.

The lad Hickey looks a decent prospect to me.
