You don't play for the top youth teams and then eventually the first teams of the top sides in the country if you have nothing. Solanke a very good player haunted by his price tag when he was a kid and he was thrust into the limelight too early for him.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 11:11 amDom Salanke is a late developer scoring for fun another winning goal v Stoke
But it's Championship football
Re: Steve Bruce Gone
You really think he's better than a player who's reached double figures in every season in which he's played for us, something only matched by six other players in those four years?
Fair enough if you think that.

Are we talking about goals and only goals or the ability to beat a man? hold the ball? stay onside? run?
Wood is a passenger unless he scores a header from a corner.

And you have the audacity to complain when people have a dig at you or Newcastleclaret93. Give us strength. Chris wood is proven at this level.

Re: Steve Bruce Gone
Bruce did an OK job at Newcastle, as did Rafa before him, yet one has been hounded out of the club, while the other is lauded as a hero despite disappearing to China at the drop of a hat.JohnMac wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 5:11 pmNothing wrong with Steve Bruce or his record. Yes he may have bombed out of some Clubs for greener grass but there isn't any guarantee in football that you wake up the next day still in employment.
The whole 'Newcastle thing' is a joke, yes they have a great fan base and the area has been a football hotbed for generations producing quality players to play at the highest level.
Their fans prior to social media (and after the hooligan years) can be either good fun and knowledgeable or completely delusional.
Newcastle United is not a successful Club, it has been a hyped up nothing ever since Keegan left after winning nothing outside of respect for attacking football.
I hope the whole project ends in tears.
And of those 2 managers mentioned only one has actually suffered relegation with Newcastle, and it wasn't Steve Bruce.
Like you I hope the whole fiasco sees them fall flat on their faces, and although they apparently have endless amounts of cash to throw around, that alone doesn't mean they'll find it easy to break into the top 4, never mind challenge for the title.

I don’t mind Brucey myself, it’s similar to a ex Blackburn manager managing us when he’s from say from rosehill or barden ect certain questions would get asked why he crossed that divide amongst some of the more partisan fanbase, whether you agree or disagree that’s some people are like.Steve1956 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 6:53 pmIt's only a game mate,I will never understand the hate that exists between teams in close proximity to each other,Bruce is a human being who did his best for a team he supports, during that time I think he lost both his parents and the abuse still continued Ashley & The Newcastle support should hang it's head in shame with the way they treated him.

Toney dropped down a number of leagues and worked his way back up, scoring a lot of goals on the way.
He's in his first season in the PL, let's see how he gets on first.
Solanke just couldn't get going in the PL, but has done well last season and this in the championship and it will do him the world of good, but he could be just like Mitrovic for all we know.
Re: Steve Bruce Gone
Utter rubbish. Solanke has hardly done anything in the Championship and was god awful in the Prem.
Wood has scored 12-14 goals each season for us in the Prem despite us probably creating bottom 5 in chances and consistently low scorers as a team.

Solanke was a teenager in the PL....
One came through the best youth team in the country and has been the main striker for England at every youth level. The other came through at Cambridge. Wood is effective at scoring 10 goals a season, in terms of raw ability he's a million miles behind Solanke.

The idea that a player "has found his level" in the Championship is clearly flawed, I believe some may have said it about Aslhey Barnes and Sam Vokes at certain stages of their careers.

Oh dear, Read earlier posts before jumping in with both feet. 'The great Lord almighty'? Again read an earlier post. It's already been established with regard to finishing positions and points, again see earlier posts. Benitez only spent what he got through sales, Bruce had over £170 million to spend; again see earlier posts. Why create confrontation when it isn't necessary? That is, unless you thrive on it which any earlier posts may provide evidence to support. Name calling again last week but I chose to overlook it. Monotonous, repetitive and utterly predictable.

The great lord almighty was about the way Newcastle fans hold Rafa in such high regard despite performing the same as Bruce. They both amassed the same number of points yet one is hated the other is loved. I don't think this is confrontation? just pointing out the hypocrisy in Newcastle fans.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 8:16 pmOh dear, Read earlier posts before jumping in with both feet. I disagree, both have served us well in the PL, within our standards.
I'm sure when we get relegated plenty outside our fan base will say we've found our level too
Re: Steve Bruce Gone
Hate to see historic clubs become super rich organisations’ playthings. No doubt they will go for a ‘name’ but no guarantees it will work out short term. They can’t sign anyone until January and other than Saint Maximim I don’t think their squad is any better than ours.

Wood is a far better strike than Solanke is currently but when Wood was Solanke's age he was failing miserably in the Premier League with Leicester and had just dropped back into the Championship with Leeds to kick start his career again
Silly to try and compare Solanke to Wood now but just as silly to write of a 24 year old as finding his level when they look to be one of the top players in the division

Re: Steve Bruce Gone
Benitez went down with Newcastle, almost inevitably but got them back up straightaway. He then played a brand of football which wasn't always easy on the eye but effective enough to keep them up. Again on very little funds other than the ones he raised himself. It's a myth that he was universally hailed as some sort of Messiah on Tyneside. He was accepted because he didn't always cow-tow to Ashley. Bruce was Ashley's puppet and spent the biggest budget in Newcastle's history to achieve no more than his predecessor. That's it from me, I've got a lecture to prepare.

KRBFC throws multiple grenades into the thread and stands well back.
He can't be serious surely, can he ?
His opinions have been widely derided on here on occasions where his football opinions were pretty much holed below the water line, now they have been taken out by a drone strike.

Whilst you may not consider them PL class they haven't done too badly.

A very average manager , extremely lucky to get to be manager of a club most people envy because of their massive support.
Newcastle have had some really average managers over the last 10 years and will thrive now with what this money will bring .
