I wasn't convinced by his appearance against Rochdale but this was an assured performance that showed his potential.
Looks like we've signed an excellent player here.

Re: ARTICLE: Collins is top man again in City defeat
His outstanding game aside, what impressed me most was he did it against one of the best & most expensive club sides in world football.
Never looked remotely overawed or, out of place.
It was very impressive.

Re: ARTICLE: Collins is top man again in City defeat
Given he has been man of the match twice it would be very harsh if he had to drop down to the bench for Mee's comeback.
I hope he starts against Southampton.

Mee doesn't get dropped, ask a certain Mr Gibson.Superjohnnyfrancis wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 2:56 pmGiven he has been man of the match twice it would be very harsh if he had to drop down to the bench for Mee's comeback.

The fact he is club captain makes it even harder for him to be dropped, regardless of his form, performances or that of his potential replacement.
He will get his run of games whe one of the main 3 are injured or when Tarky leaves, no sooner.

I thought the lad played against Norwich. Didn't see the game on Saturday but it sounds good.

Yep. He was rubbish against Norwich, and if you think differently, then you're just wearing Claret tinted specs!

By my reckoning, he has played 4 games and only conceded 3 goals, including City away.
We would be mad to drop him.
Let Ben prove his fitness against Spurs.

It used to be that if you played well you kept the shirt in Dyche's old days, now he seems to play a favourite regardless of form.MACCA wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 3:33 pmMee doesn't get dropped, ask a certain Mr Gibson.

Should be Collins' shirt to lose i reckon. If he puts a bad performance in then fair enough but players shouldnt just walk back into the team even if their the captain.

That's nonsense and no matter which way you look at it, it's Ben Mee's shirt to lose.Superjohnnyfrancis wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 5:22 pmIt used to be that if you played well you kept the shirt in Dyche's old days, now he seems to play a favourite regardless of form.

Re: ARTICLE: Collins is top man again in City defeat
I guess we wont know until 2.00pm on Saturday. Personally I would like to see Collins stay in the team for this game. I saw him play v Norwich and watched the whole Man City game on SKY, and he played very well both games-the latter game against a side that have the habit of turning us over. I feel Collins staying in, throws a very strong message to a team that has now gone 11 PL games without a win. It also throws the right message to Roberts-get in, play well, and keep the shirt. I know this guy is chomping at the bit. Hopefully all these fringe players including Rodriguez, will rise to the occasion v Spurs next week. This League Cup game has come at the right timeClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 6:37 pmThat's nonsense and no matter which way you look at it, it's Ben Mee's shirt to lose.

Wasn't aware the whole game was on Sky? Looked several times unless it was on a repeat and not live....warksclaret wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 9:08 amI guess we wont know until 2.00pm on Saturday. Re: ARTICLE: Collins is top man again in City defeat
You shouldn't lose your place through no fault of your own like a small injury, especially as captain. A silly sending off, poor in training or poor form then I'd agree.
A little different if its a long term injury

Our two central defenders, I thought, were outstanding against City although, of course, they do play without strikers.warksclaret wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 9:08 amI guess we wont know until 2.00pm on Saturday. Re: ARTICLE: Collins is top man again in City defeat
Bit of a wacky idea I know, but why not just pick whoever you think is the best player.
Ideas built on the principle of "Buggins' turn" on the one hand, or "old pals" on the other seem a bit outdated to me at least.

Re: ARTICLE: Collins is top man again in City defeat
The good news is we seem to have found Tarks replacement. I think his distribution is slightly superior to Mee even at this stage and he looks to play on the floor going forward which is nice to see.
At 20 its scary how good he could become if he stays free of injuries.
One thing we do well is buying defenders, hats off to whoever made this one possible.

Don't worry there's another 9 months to hammer in that's not how we play.Superjohnnyfrancis wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 12:56 pmI think his distribution is slightly superior to Mee even at this stage and he looks to play on the floor going forward which is nice to see.
He will be doing Tarky whooshing and Mee shanking before we know it, he is in extra training to make sure it's embedded in him.

Re: ARTICLE: Collins is top man again in City defeat
Every SKY game is shown on SKY, including those not shown live. THe Man City game the other week was shown at around 8.00am on Sunday morning. I look out for them and if showing during the night record them. Great service by SKY which is under promoted. Last season it was just 30 minutes of highlights per gameClaretDiver wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 9:51 amWasn't aware the whole game was on Sky? Re: ARTICLE: Collins is top man again in City defeat
Agreed-the scouting was brilliant for Collins as it appears to have been for Cornet and hopefully Roberts too. This gives me hope re a new influential playmaker CM, and a striker who has goals in him. Both desperately needed for Jan. This will enable us to be more relaxed about letting some of the "old crops " goSuperjohnnyfrancis wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 12:56 pmThe good news is we seem to have found Tarks replacement. Unless it is on either BT or Prime - the Southampton game is scheduled for 2 a.m. this Sundaywarksclaret wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 1:55 pmEvery SKY game is shown on SKY, including those not shown live. Re: ARTICLE: Collins is top man again in City defeat
Looks a better player than Mee has this season, I'd have Pieters and Collins in regardless of the fitness of the other two.

Amusing isn’t it. The notion that Dyche’s favourite players aren’t the ones he considers to be the best.

But when people see things differently & results aren't favourable do people have a point or is the manager always right despite results indicating contrary.

The manager doesn’t always get his team selection correct, but the idea that he picks players who are his ‘favourites’ ahead of players who are better is ridiculous.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 8:52 pmBut when people see things differently & results aren't favourable do people have a point or is the manager always right despite results indicating contrary.
Collins has started his Burnley career impressively, but if he makes way for Mee it is because Dyche knows that we have a better chance of getting a result with Mee in the side. His experience at this level and his leadership qualities put him in the driving seat, even if their ability was comparable, which it’s far too early for us to say.

Re: ARTICLE: Collins is top man again in City defeat
Not necessarily true if a manager thinks not selecting a player will dent the confidence long-term or potentially cause a negative imbalance within the squad he may sway differently from what we think is right or what we expect, he's in the driving seat because he's trusted to do the job based on what he's done previously it doesn't make it the right call it only becomes a right call if that decision turns out to be a good choice, if Collins loses his place to mee & mee has a mare it's a poor choice, you don't fix something that isn't broken.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 8:57 pmThe manager doesn’t always get his team selection correct, but the idea that he picks players who are his ‘favourites’ ahead of players who are better is ridiculous.
