Next PL Manager Casualty

Post by warksclaret » Fri Oct 22, 2021 9:46 pm

My money is on Dean Smith. Saved relegation two seasons ago by skin of the their teeth. If VAR had been working they should have been relegated and Bournemouth stayed up as a result. I believe Villa's owners are maybe one of the richest in the PL. They have spent handsomely in transfers, which somewhat helped them last season. This year sold Grealish and reinvested most of it. Owners will be looking at a better return and looks like Villa are on a mini slide

Apparently Claudio Ranieri is on borrowed time.

''Saved relegation two seasons ago by skin of the their teeth''

Is that a bad thing or something? and why are we mentioning 2 years ago?

Because technically Villa could have been in the Championship at the end of that season, and even in their first season back, they spent considerably on transfers

I think Smith is very fortunate to be honest, to have spent as much as he has, since promotion in 2019, I'm surprised he's still there. He's no Grealish there now to come to his rescue.

Villa finished 17th 2 seasons ago and 11th last season.

They need to finish there again as a minimum or higher for the owners to be happy with the progression.

I don't think they'll pull the trigger this early, they gave him all that money to spend, it takes time to bed in that many players and to find a new style with Grealish gone because be was their focal point/leader etc.

Of course Ranieri has to be one of the favs just because it's Watford.

OGS - needs to win something this season, it doesn't matter what it is, he needs to break that duck, but he won't go this side of Xmas.

Norwich have made it clear their short term aim is to be one of the top 26 teams in the country, so going down again isn't going to be viewed as a disaster by them, so Farke should be safe for a while yet.

Bielsa might have to start watching out though, Leeds appear to be suffering the dreaded 2nd season syndrome and can't get going....

I’m not just saying this, but once the Saints lose tomorrow Hasenhuttl will be on borrowed time. They’ve won once all season and after us face Watford and Norwich in big games. Lose all them and he’ll get the bullet.

Blimey they kept him after two 9 goal wallopings so I think he’ll be alright. Plus they’ve lost Ings, Vestergaard etc. owners seem reasonably sensible.

Agree that Villa might pull the trigger sooner rather than later. Dean Smith never really gives the impression of being the man who can take them to the next level.

but they aren't, they survived their first season back in the PL and imo that's all newly promoted clubs can aim to achieve realistically. You're criticising them for staying in the league like it's underperforming 2 years ago....

Last season they finished 11th. Progress on the previous season.

This season, they lost Grealish and spent to replace him which will take time to gel.

Didn't Villa survive relegation courtesy of goal line technology not switched on v Sheff Utd?

The first game back after the league had been suspended. Was way over the line, the only time goal line technology has failed (make your own minds on that) and VAR opted not to intervene. Villa would have gone down had the goal stood, based on all the other results remaining as they were, and Bournemouth would have stayed up.

A bit off topic but here's what a Cardiff fan said about their future appointment:

"Wilder evens favourite to be next manager but get this , last sacked manager Harris is second favourite because our backer Tan likes him and didn’t want to sack him in the first place and secondly we are skint and still paying Harris to sit at home on his arse cos his contract hasn’t run out !!!. " :)

Why would any ex premier League manager want to be the captain of a sinking ship ?

Don't think big Sam or even Steve Bruce would consider it even if they were given a big transfer budget ( which no one will )

And yet you don't think I am right in thinking the Prem League looks after those it believes helps the product?

Bournemouth- 11000 capacity, Burnley 22000 etc
Or Aston 'pump in the millions' Villa with Villa Park.

I actually think having clubs like Burnley in the division helps the Premier League.

It allows them to counter the argument that only the richest clubs survive and that clubs can thrive on smaller finances if managed properly.

It does, but in reality, United can’t pull the trigger until there’s someone to replace him and then only by ‘mutual consent’.

OGS saying he won’t walk away was a political move by him. He knows he’s a club legend and the board can’t just bullet him.

Conte would upset too many when untied are dumping shares.
Zindane doesn’t speak English

Sounds like OGS is about to get the boot...

Apparently they have reservations about appointing Conte because they feel his style is too similar to Jose.
