Garbage.
The PL don't care tbh, they probably enjoy it when the surprise results are thrown up, it adds to the entertainment and resale value of the TV rights.
The current change around of West Ham being near the top and above Arsenal and Spurs is great for the PL's entertainment value.
It's the media and fans who make stupid claims that the likes of Sheff Wed/Forest/Derby/Sunderland etc deserve to be in the PL ahead of Burnley for example.
It used to be Leeds who were apparently more deserving of being in the PL than any other club, if they drop out the same claims will be made again I have no doubt
The season we finished 7th was great because we were picking up wins over the big boys and disrupting the "natural order" but football fans were loving it when it was their rivals losing points to us.
Also a hard fought relegation battle is just as important for the PL's viewing figures as a hard fought title challenge and battle for European spots.
That's why PL TV rights keep selling for more and more money each time, because the league is so varied in regards to quality of teams and surprise results can still happen.
