I think I prefer the pics I used, when we've beaten them in this competition.

When I was a youngster Spurs was the fixture above all the others that whetted the appetite of our supporters. Cup ties already been mentioned but some great league games too at Turf Moor that saw attendances literally doubled from the previous home fixture(with very few visiting fans). They had some great players and encounters between the two teams are very much part of my early days as a Claret.

They always seemed to be special games.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 27, 2021 12:08 pmWhen I was a youngster Spurs was the fixture above all the others that whetted the appetite of our supporters. I remember a young Spurs supporting lad (late teens) coming to speak to us down there at the League Cup game in 2008. He told us he was going to the second leg because his granddad said he should because all Burnley v Spurs games were special.

The 1983 match was one of my all time favourite games. Spurs were THE cup team at the time and put out a full strength side . We had just sacked Brian Miller after a wretched run and looked odds on to be relegated to Div 3. After rather unluckily going behind at the start of the second half, we took the game to them and played brilliantly. The atmosphere in the away end was fantastic.

That match tho with Jay Rods goal……..and the crowd just going quiet when they scored in added time …….Alexander fell to his knees and then a magnificent roar, round of applause……it was like The Turf coming back to life, and boy did it for the rest of that season…

That night the stadium truly rocked
I thought we were unlucky to lose the first leg 4-1
When the final whistle I hadn’t realised we hadn’t won because of the away goal rule
Then that silence when they scored in extra time and then the roar to encourage the lads onwards
Even Harry at the end was gracious about our fighting performance and think he said that Burnley truly rattled Spurs in that game
Nice interview in Clarets Player with Jay
Jay said it was a special atmosphere that night 12 years ago

When i took my seat at Wembley in 1988 for the Sherpa Van Final,a young guy came up to me and said hello,i'm a Spurs fan,and his granddad had told him to go to the game, because all Burnley games and people were special. He sat there and wept at the end as he told me his Granddad had passed away, the day earlier, and was also supposed to be at the game.Stranger how things affect people from all walks of life.

I'm still irked by the away goals rule in 2009. Why were Spurs given an extra 30 minutes to score an away goal? We should have gone through after 90 minutes.

Sadly tonight's game won't live long in the memory.
