They are

Great offer on transpennine trains for over 55s. Any return journey for 20 quid.
Which means you can get to Newcastle from Manchester Victoria for that.

36 quid going via York from Burnley is the cheapest I have seen for Adults.

The pubs around the train station are a plenty and friendly.

Great day out up there.

Get off the train at Durham and have a few hours drinking there. Great little place

I booked train tickets from Leeds this week. Return was £65 but paid £28 by buying 4 singles: Leeds-York, York- Newcastle and vice versa.

Park in Heaton on a side street. Free parking however it’s roughly a ten minute walk into town

It is possible to book through on one ticket but it's £65.

It's always been like that, even back in the early 70s when I was doing a lot of away games by train from Sheffield. I even got it cheaper recently for the Liverpool game, ticket from Manchester to Newton-le-Willows and one from Newton-le-Willows to Liverpool.

I quite enjoy the challenge of trying to beat "the system". I grew up travelling the country by train with Beeky. I learnt a few tricks over the years.

I travelled up for the Norwich game. Arlesey (my closest station) to Burnley Mcr Rd was £96 return. I tried splitting the journey without success. I then tried Stevenage to Leeds - Stevenage is 2 stops closer to London to then travel back in the opposite direction. £10 each way, £20 return. Leeds to Burnley £6.90 each way. So the original £96 became £33.80 after a bit of trial and error.

If anyone does think of stopping off in Durham for a few drinks then would be good to catch up with some fellow Clarets, not got a ticket for the game though

I believe the coaches stop off in the Durham area so should be a few Clarets knocking about.

We usually park at the South Shore Road Car Park, which is down by the Baltic/Sage Centres - immediately south of the pedestrian eye-bridge; it's about £5 to park and a mile (mostly uphill) to the ground, but it saves you fighting traffic onto/across the Tyne Bridge each way and a picturesque walk, across the eye-bridge one way via the Bigg Market and back via the Tyne Bridge. Doesn't help with getting to your seats of course; best thing for that is to go the day before and spend the night acclimatising on the second tier, or if you can't manage that then swallow a couple of Diamox tablets.

I think it's too high for the Diamox

Will we need Covid vaccine passes, proof of double jab etc?

If you have time, break the journey along the Carlisle-Newcastle by stopping for a pint in Corbridge. Excellent village, Dyvels pub by station is good, go up into the centre of village and next to the church you'll find The Pele, (pronounced 'Peel', not err Pele), unique pub in a 14th Century building, excellent ales straight from the barrel.

Plenty of good real ale pubs in the toon, Centurion on N/c station, Bacchus, Lady Grey, Bodega, Trent House, Crown Posada, Hotspur, further afield Free Trade with the finest view in Newcastle. Get here early, all I want is a match day ticket!

Cross the Redheugh Bridge and park up somewhere on the other side (plenty of reasonably priced options around there and should be reasonably easy to get away afterwards). Ground is a short walk from there.

Anyone making a day of it I'd suggest the Wylam Brewery in Exhibition Park for a few scoops (it's not really on the beaten track but still walking distance). Fenham Fish Bar is well worth leaving the city centre for too. Best fish and chips I've ever had.

You can't go far wrong in Newcastle itself but its worth a look down towards the Quayside for the Redhouse. One of the oldest buildings in Newcastle and they do brilliant pies and pints.

TransPenine Express from Manchester Victoria to Newcastle are certainly a bargain for over 55's.
20 quid return, off peak, which means you can catch any of their hourly trains on that Saturday.

For anyone that travels by train and has Tesco club card points.
The travel cards are on triple points. Basically the 30 pound card costs a tenner if you pay with Tesco vouchers.
Then a 3rd off your travel.

If you shop at Tesco you get points on you shopping which lead to you getting vouchers. For every £1 you have in vouchers you can get £1 off your shopping but alternatively you can get £3 off other things which includes rail cards. I try to collect £10 ready for my rail card being renewed.

You apply to Tesco for a voucher to use for buying a rail card. You get it immediately by email and then use that to purchase your rail card.

Went on general sale last Friday and we haven't sold out which at least tells us that the club took the right allocation.

I know the Premier League is a novelty for them but Brentford have sold their 3000 allocation for Newcastle this weekend.
Surely we can sell 1,600?

Walk on the Quayside, metro train out to the coast to Tynemouth/Whitley Bay, museums and art gallery (Laing), theatre, cinema, Jesmond Dene, Quayside market (Sunday), you name it we’ve got it!

The Christmas markets on grey street are usually pretty good.

Generally just having a wonder around, there’s plenty of bars, restaurants shops etc…
