This is a must watch - should be show in schools (older kids).
Incredible work putting it together.
Worth a revisit - if you have seen it.
Set your timer if you have not...

Peter Jackson is doing incredible work restoring old footage. The upcoming Beatles documentary looks like it was filmed today.

My paternal Grandfather fought with the RWF in WW1 and made it home, my maternal Grandfather was killed at Dunkirk in June 1940 and lies in a cemetary in Malo Les Bains, with my mother aged just 4. My maternal Grandmother remarried after the war to the man I knew as Granddad. He fought in North Africa and then Italy in WW2. He religiously watched All Our Yesterdays on a Sunday afternoon, completely immersed. Modern day victimhood pales in the shadow of the sacrifice and suffering. Never forget.

It’s a stunning documentary. Speaking of Peter Jackson, I just read this morning that he’s sold his special effects studio for 1.63bn dollars!

Why, on a thread like this, do you have to be so stupid ?
Give it a rest, just for once, and accept the film is excellent. No snide, no political agenda required.

This is one of few genuine TV 'must-watches'.
It's amazing how much the colouring enhances perception.
Highly recommended to anyone with the slightest interest in WWI or indeed history in general.

For those who have never been and who have an interest in WW1 then a visit to Ypres and the surrounding area is a real eye opener. I have been fortunate enough to visit on several occasions, on one occasion to witness my wife play at the evening service at the Menin Gate which is a truly moving occasion. My wife's Great Grandfather is one of the names. We have two Menin Lions on our staircase at home which we see every time we descend.....lest we forget.

Yes, indeed eastanglian. I too have been lucky to visit Ypres 3 times. I was shocked the 1st time, seeing the amount of war cemeteries everywhere you went, a very moving experience.
Menin Gate, with the names of the missing with no known graves, is just something else.
A place everyone should try to visit once in their lives to appreciate what these poor men & boys went through.....lest we forget.

Saw this documentary a while ago - indeed worth the watch
1917 is also worth a look
I'm very interested in everything related to WWI and WW2 - the more you get to know, the more you even understand how the present society is evolving

My late father who was Italian was captured in WW2 in Tobruk, North Africa. He became a prisoner of war and was sent to Sheffield with other Italian POW, and then they were sent around the country to work on farms etc. He settled and stayed in England after the war and never went back. Luckily it was the British army that captured him and they were fair to him.He still had nightmares some 40 years later having narrowly missed a mortar attack.Last nights televised Rememberance Day at the Albert Hall was beautifully executedten bellies wrote: ↑Wed Nov 10, 2021 12:33 amMy paternal Grandfather fought with the RWF in WW1 and made it home, my maternal Grandfather was killed at Dunkirk in June 1940 and lies in a cemetary in Malo Les Bains, with my mother aged just 4. I've not been to Ypres, but three years ago I took my 88 year old mum to The Somme as that's where in the summer offensive of 1916 her father (my grandad) was badly injured and invalided home and his twin brother was killed and laid to rest in one of the hundreds of battlefield cemeteries. As the area is so fertile and rural there has been so little development over the years and it remains very much as it was and there is so much to see. It's fascinating and very moving to visit iconic places such as "the sunken lane" where many from East Lancashire attacked and died on July1st, Devil's Wood and the Lochnagar Crater, the small town of Albert (where my grandad was billeted) plus loads of other places along what was actually only quite a short front line (14? miles) and therefore much is simply preserved as it was. Also, The Commonwealth War Graves Commission are amazing and using their online resources I easily tracked down where both my grandad's twin brother and also my grandma's brother were buried and was able to take my mum directly to the graves, something which both my grandma and my grandad had wanted to do all their lives, but were never able to. As said elsewhere, if you have any interest whatsoever in WW1 history, it's a brilliant and moving place to visit. And the CWWC tend every single grave, in every single cemetery with such care and devotion. They are absolutely immaculate!

If you can, you should go to Ypres for the last post at 8pm every night. It will stay with you.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Sun Nov 14, 2021 11:44 amI've not been to Ypres, but three years ago I took my 88 year old mum to The Somme as that's where in the summer offensive of 1916 her father (my grandad) was badly injured and invalided home and his twin brother was killed and laid to rest in one of the hundreds of battlefield cemeteries.
