Record gate at Wealdstone
Went along to my local club today (Wealdstone) used to be Ruislip Manor, semi pros playing in what is mostly a professional division . They had a great 1-0 win over Barnet. Was a lively finish to the game as the Barnet manager was last seasons Wealdstone manager, so you can imagine the stick he got at the end of the game. 2,670 attendance, a record and a virtual full house.

Hope you didn't run into the Wealdstone Raider!

I didn’t realise it was a local derby but mentioned on Soccer Saturday and the first time the teams have met in front of a crowd for years.

Re: Record gate at Wealdstone
I too went to watch my local team. Heaton Stannington had their record league attendance (461 I think) and won 8. 3. Last few games I've been on before this have finished 7.0, 9.1 and 5.2 and they're top of the league so it's little wonder the crowds are coming. I'm starting to enjoy them almost as much as watching Burnley. In fact I attended two of those games at the expense of watching ours.

I can’t believe clubs in the conference make it work financially as professional outfits on crowds of what 2/3k?

Re: Record gate at Wealdstone
Slightly off topic and apologies if mentioned elsewhere, watched the Robbie Savage documentary on buying a football club (Macclesfield) last night, gave a decent insight into what goes into running a non league football club and how much it means to the local community, they had gates of 3000+ and were just starting to show a profit, fair play to all involved in running a non league team I take my hat off to you. Robbie Savage is still a kn*b but he did go up a little in my estimation

He's a good supporter of grassroots football too, particularly junior football. Seems very genuine about it all, good luck to him.
Over 400 at Penistone Church yesterday in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division (level 9). International breaks are something to look forward to now as it means a good non-league day.

Fascinating that someone can be a knob, go up in someone’s estimation, yet still remain a knob. That’s a wide spectrum of knobness in any one’s estimation.

I think he has donated over £500,000 to charity since this video went viral, if people see him on the street he charges them for a photo or a video of him saying the phrases and all the money goes to charity.diamondpocket wrote: ↑Sun Nov 14, 2021 10:14 amFor those who aren't familiar with The Wealdstone Raider

Such a shame that Ruislip manor folded in 2008, and Wealdstone at the time were groundsharing with Northwood FC and took over the Vale and made it their home. They have a virtually new squad this season having lost most of their players to clubs that can pay higher wages. Not unlike Burnley Fc of old. Still they are managing to survive in the highest non league tier.

Yes I caught the Macc documentary last night, and I'd definitely recommend it to any footy fans, and it doesn't pull any punches into how tough running a club at those levels can be.XDS wrote: ↑Sun Nov 14, 2021 11:49 amSlightly off topic and apologies if mentioned elsewhere, watched the Robbie Savage documentary on buying a football club (Macclesfield) last night, gave a decent insight into what goes into running a non league football club and how much it means to the local community, they had gates of 3000+ and were just starting to show a profit, fair play to all involved in running a non league team I take my hat off to you. What really brought it home to me was the community aspect that a football club brings, especially for small towns such as Macclesfield, and there's some great characters that feature throughout.

Re: Record gate at Wealdstone
I went to Basingstoke Town v Tooting & Mitcham (Isthmian South-Central League (=8th tier)) yesterday. Gate was 653, cf average League home gates of 350 previously this season. Seems it was a good day for non-league footy gates.
In my early keen footy-following days (mid 1950s-mid late 1960s); Tooting & Mithcham were well known for decent cup runs/giant killing so it was grand to finally get to see them live.
The game finished 3-2 and there was some decent footy on view, it's good to be able to stand and wander round the ground taking in different angles of viewing (especially from between the dug-outs to hear the managers' exhortations/curses).

I went to Guiseley 0-2 Hereford in the National League North, approx 960 in attendance. A great way to spend an afternoon and looking forward to the next time we don’t have a Sat 3pm KO.

We used to play on Eastcote CCs 3rds pitch. Drinks in The Case is Altered after. Lovely area.

wealdstone fc just to be located in Wealdstone (in the sixties), a district of Harrow. There used to be a pub called The Case is Altered down the road from the ground. I believe they've now built a Poundstore shop on the site. Fings ain't what they used to be. Stuart Pearce started his career there.

Re: Record gate at Wealdstone
I’d no idea that Ruislip Manor had folded. I used to live very near to the ground. As little boys, we would sneak down the side of an embankment next to a bungalow and cut across the bottom of the garden and jump over the fence to gain access to the ground. The address was 45 Cranleigh Drive. Every week a woman would come running down the garden to berate us. The woman was Helen Kroger (real name Lona Cohen) and she was soon to be arrested, along with her husband, Peter Kroger, as part of the Portland Spy Ring. A quiet cul de sac. Quite an event when the secret service and the police closed in.
