Re: John Pender Granada Reports
I was just about to start a thread on a related subject but will put it here instead.
I'm over the border watching Look North. Kevin Sinfield, the former Leeds Rhinos captain has raised £1.2m for MND Research running from 101 miles Leicester to Leeds in honour of former teammate Rob Burrow who also has this awful illness.

That was a hard watch. Welled up when he was asked if he’d play again even if his condition was linked to his career.

I feel like we owe it to him to help as much as we can. Burnley clearly still means a lot to him. Great memories of that time. Is there a link anywhere to the fundraising effort?

Heart breaking, I hadn’t realised it had gotten to that stage already.
I’ll be doing the sponsored walk over Pendle with the family early next year if I can.

Heart-wrenching watch. John Pender was our Colossus and without the likes of him we wouldn't be where we are today. One of two captains to win us promotion. Thoughts are with you and your family, stay strong JP.

Horrendous to watch, heart breaking to see what this illness has reduced him and many others to.

Re: John Pender Granada Reports
I saw the clip on Twitter and it was heartbreaking to watch. I know our former player Len Johnrose is suffering and i saw what it did to someone well known to many Burnley fans, Alan Beecroft who passed away at the beginning of 2020.
In my mind, i am still working in the Guest/Sponsors bar in the BL stand and after the match Steve Davis and John Pender are stood in front of me in their black club blazers and BFC ties waiting for a well earned post match beer. That is more than a quarter of a century ago and it is so sad to see John in this condition, which sadly there is no cure for and the outcome is inevitable.

Heart breaking to see just as it has continually been to see Lenny Johnrose, just as it was to see my good mate Alan Beecroft. I remain amazed by and in awe of Lenny in how he deals with it. He's an inspiration.
You get touched by an illness when someone close to you suffers and that's why I now always support Alzheimer's and MND.

Re: John Pender Granada Reports
Cruel disease significantly more prevalent statistically in people who have engaged in intense exercise for long periods. The evidence isn't conclusive but it is likely his time in a Burnley shirt contributed to his condition. If you can afford it, follow the just giving link above. It would be good to see that fund grow a bit..

This was on breakfast TV live yesterday as he entered the Rhinos ground .Very moving scenes indeed and what a great gesture by Kevin Sinfield who has played rugby with Rob Burrow since they were 12 ..What a fantastic human being he is and a truly great mate for Rob.An awful illness it is.Feel for John Pender and hope he keeps going.TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 6:46 pmI was just about to start a thread on a related subject but will put it here instead.

Re: John Pender Granada Reports
I can't bring myself to watch the video, however I have donated, John deserves all we can offer after his sterling efforts to the Burnley cause in the 1990's to at the very least enjoy the time he has remaining in comfort.
Horrible illness this and hopefully science will one day find a cure, or at least find solutions to mitigate the worst effects of this cruel beast.

Re: John Pender Granada Reports
Just donated to this so thought I’d bump this up to see if we can do a little more from those who didn’t see the thread.

If I felt I’d got so much from John’s leadership in the early 90s, and if his condition is due to his playing days (seems very possible) then I felt duty bound to contribute.
We all end up in the same place but its a darn sight harder for some of us than others.
