Getting to t'Turf for the Spurs game on Sunday
Since moving to Poulton-le-Fylde a few years ago Ive clocked up thousands of miles on the M55 / M6 / M61 and M65 going back and forth to Burnley for work purposes, family visits and trips to the Turf. My old car already has up to 120,000 miles on the clock so I decided it was time to upgrade and as part and parcel of that my partner and I have decided that visits back to Burnley would be more often taken by train. This is with a view to less mileage for the new car and driving stress for me especially with the cost of petrol increasing recently. So I will pick up my new motor on Friday morning and you've guessed it I am a function at Crowwood on Friday evening where I'll be having a few pints before returning home by midnight. My partner is back to her place of work in Nelson on Saturday night and I was going to buy my rail tickets to ease my journey to Burnley for the Spurs match on Sunday. Ive just logged on to discover that there is a bus service only to replace the trains which cannot run on Sunday due to repairs. Each way the journey is predicted to take 2 hours. When we play a team from the South the train usually fills up with boozed up away supporters who have travelled on the mainline up to Preston. I dont mind this normally but I dont fancy the prospects of being jammed in a coach full of Spurs fans. Same goes for the journey back home. Are the rail companies even aware / bothered that a Premier League game is scheduled for Burnley on Sunday and what planning has gone towards this. Premier League dont help matters as the game was originally in my diary for Saturday and the railways are operating as normal on that day. Sorry for long rant but just wondered if anyone has any suggestions for making my life easier on Sunday.

Re: Getting to t'Turf for the Spurs game on Sunday
This has been the case for a few weeks. My brother wanted to travel by train to Blackpool from Burnley on a Sunday about 3-4 weeks ago having got an early appointment at Blackpool Victoria the day after. He had to travel from Burnley Central on the Sunday but the other line was open on the following day,
Spurs, by the way, offer discounted coach travel for their fans if it isn't possible for them to return to London after the game by public transport so I would imagine a good number of them will travel by coach at £10.

Thanks Tony. That may make my life a bit easier if I do use the replacement bus service.

Thanks for the kind offer QTT. If you can forward your address for them to post the invoice it would be much appreciated!Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Wed Nov 24, 2021 1:07 pmGet yourself booked into the hotel at crow Wood for the weekend.

I wonder if Spurs team are booked in there?
There was a great podcast by Ben Foster when Watford stayed there last season (before their game versus Rovers). It was a great advert for Crow Wood and will have enhanced the reputation of the town a little.
Re: Getting to t'Turf for the Spurs game on Sunday
With a good few supporters living in your area, I'm surprised you didn't suggest a car share lift, for alternate games. That way it cuts the all round cost.

Re: Getting to t'Turf for the Spurs game on Sunday
Given the sporting prowess of the " OP " in his youth, any Claret should be honoured to given this man a lift. A quite magnificent goalscoring record of 1 in 2 over many years in the Sunday Leagues, and a statistical anomaly that says he was only ever dismissed by opposition " Pros's " in his fleetingly brief Lancashire League career, during the long endless summers of yore ....
Mind you, Devon Malcolm hit more Test 6's than Sir Don Bradman, so statistics can be misleading ....

Even Manchester United “stayed” there last season as they needed to rest after their long journey

I use Crowwood daily and live close by, its on my dog walking route and I see all the coaches there, Not just clubs playing Burnley but championship teams playing against the no dads down the road also stay there. Occasionally some of he staff will use the gym in the morning if they have stayed the night.

Could I suggest that you move back to Burnley? Would be simpler. Clarets4me would put you up.

Thanks for the serious suggestions regarding my trip to Burnley on Sunday. Also some interesting snippets regarding my comment on Crow Wood. Encouraging (but slightly tongue in cheek) comments from clarets4me thank you. Less helpful was the suggestion by my Fylde neighbour Burnley Bonzo who will not be attending the Spurs game as his weekend is already allocated to the AFC Fylde versus Gateshead FA Trophy game. The upshot of all the above is - " I will be driving down to Burnley and back so 100 miles on the clock before my new vehicle has had chance to settle on our driveway".burnleybonzo wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 6:57 pmCould I suggest that you move back to Burnley? You have set me off on the lack of connectivity in East Lancashire.

Unfortunately, there is currently a " No Vacancies " sign over our humble home, and in any event, I doubt whether " BeeholeClaret " would be willing to pay the 20p extra we charge, for use of the cruet set !burnleybonzo wrote: ↑Thu Nov 25, 2021 6:57 pmCould I suggest that you move back to Burnley? Even if your suggestion could someday be accommodated, I fear the two of us would drive our respective ladies to distraction, sitting around the table compiling Burnley XI's of " Best loan signings ", " The moustache/beard XI " not mentioning various Pop Quiz's and World War II documentaries ....

Re: Getting to t'Turf for the Spurs game on Sunday
I’ve just check my email and the “Match preview” says 3pm kick off.
A separate email “Pre-match information” says 2pm.
Bit of a shambles really. With the current weather I could be forgiven for not bothering travelling over. Talk about “jumping through hoops”. All I want to do is pay money to go and support my team!
For those asking no I’ve not set off yet but I’ll be up at at em early tomorrow for my expedition to the hills of East Lancs. UTC.

Its strange how suddenly this season there are long queues particularly on the Longside.Am sure it wasn't always like this for league matches. Can understand to some extent for cup ties where many people are using mobile phones to scan their tickets.

Sorry you missed your football fix this weekend. I had a good few hours at the impressive AFC Fylde where I watched a high standard game which saw the locals win through 1-0 against Gateshead in the F A Trophy second round.
